Well I was right about not telling the Hokage.
Also was right that we wouldn't be able to just get SC for Noburi

In other words, you don't benefit from the 7th day of prep. On the other hand, SSA inflicts a Mild Consequence on Hazō after he makes a research roll and that Consequence takes 2 days to clear. The plan calls for the update to be 8 days long, so that's what I'll do. You did 6 days of prep, made the roll on the 7th day, and you will be halfway through your recovery period instead of right at the beginning of it.
IIRC the reason it was 8 days was because we (I) thought we wouldn't be able to both finish reading the notes and make a sealing attempt on day seven.
Hazō and Kagome had an excellent time working together and made incredible progress. They feel like they're close; with a little luck, another session that could finish the seal.
My master plan, foiled. The MARS research track is much larger than expected.
Ami-style training: 1
I had thought that Ami-style training provided 1 xp/day.
"GM had fun" XP: 0 No strong feelings about this plan.
Oof. Split updates are weird, the main fun parts were supposed to be in talking with Noburi. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it too much.

Okay, so the surprise split update means we have an extra Vel Update before we can go to the Rift on EJ's next update.

How about that Yuno conversation?

Maybe we can give Yuno a minor leadership position within the clan? Training the branch family Goketsu in combat? Not necessarily forcing Yuno to pass along her axe style of combat (that's a precious thing that only Yuno can do, and feels more like a "mother to daughter" sort of thing), but just general combat... Maybe in the form of a generalized/warm up group PT or something, before everyone splits off to train their focus for that day?

I suggest this because Yuno approaches ninja life from a different point than Mist or Leaf does. Mist dehumanized ninja into pawns, Leaf tells them that their suffering is for the WoF. Isan teaches that ninja are human and to embrace their feelings. That's important. Maybe we can get some of that internal validation to rub off onto the other Goketsu? It is my hope that doing so will lead to better mental health in the Goketsu.

Kagome teaches Sealing, helps Hazou with projects, is a founding administrator for GED.

Mari is our sanity-checker, growing a spy network, tutoring Haru to be her lieutenant, making the Merchant Council dance to her turn, spinning narratives with the wives of the clan heads, and other social projects.

We know that Akane, as a civilian-born ninja, is the touchstone for the Goketsu civilians. We know that she and Noburi help troubleshoot/filter out problems before they get to the point where Hazou has to fill out paperwork about it.

Yuno needs a similar responsibility, other than helping Kagome cook dinner. We need to show Yuno we trust her, and that we don't see her as a mindless killing machine.

If this is too much, too soon, we could have Akane lead it for a few weeks while Yuno shadows her, and then have Yuno take the group over afterwards. And Yuno will, obviously, have all of the Uplift Family on call for advice.
The more I think about this idea, the more I like it. Let's do it? We can fold it into the "Yuno, we need to talk about that dinner" conversation. We can use the leadership position as a way of softening the reprimand and give Yuno a tangible expression of our trust in her.

And if we explicitly mention the part about how we want to try and absorb the Isanese perspective about "Ninja being Humans, too," then that further exhibits how we value her way of life, even if we don't quite grok it. It validates her traditions and perspectives, which will mean a lot to her (a stranger in a strange land, where nothing makes sense and the ways you are surrounded by are not your ways).

It'll be a good thing. Sanity check and optimize with Mari, of course, but I'm feeling pretty good about this.

@eaglejarl @Velorien
FOOM XP for Chapter 519

Base XP: 30

Akane: 60 Resolve -> 1.8 * 30 = 54 FOOM XP
Hazo: 44 Resolve -> 1.3 Reduced by 0.4 due to 4 SC reading Sealing Notes -> 0.9 * 30 = 27 FOOM XP + 112 Sealing XP (Already Spent)
Kei: 60 Resolve -> 1.8 Reduced by 0.4 due to Snowflake -> 1.4 * 30 = 42 FOOM XP

I had thought that Ami-style training provided 1 xp/day.
The plan specified that you only spent one day on it. Also, my understanding is that a given creative training thing only works once, for one day. If it didn't then you could do it forever.

Oof. Split updates are weird, the main fun parts were supposed to be in talking with Noburi. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it too much.
No worries. I didn't dislike it, I simply didn't have strong feelings for or against. Thank you for the concern, though.

You can get at max 1 XP/day from Ami-style training, but also each valid idea only works for the one day. We only listed one Ami-style training idea in the plan, so we only get 1 XP from it. If Hazou did it for longer than one day he didn't get any additional benefits from it.

I'll be honest, I kinda just want to go now. Syncing up updates with the QM who most enjoys that content is fine and all, but I don't want to keep pushing back the thing we've all been waiting for. And if we push it back another cycle but give Velorien too big of a plan and it overflows to EJ again, we'll be right back here next week still agonizingly waiting because we're trying to get everything to line up just right.

I say take what we can get and advance necromancy now. I want to do the Yuno conversation too but I'm okay with shelving that for next week's Velorien cycle.

Hazou: "The sunset chaser, the Dragons, the Pangolins, the Collapse, the Rockwar, and (once again) the Dragons. I have blended my brain, broken my body, and steeled my heart against the siren serenade of the easier, soulless paths to power. A Goketsu goes pretty damn far for family, and if that means growing up, then that's a small sacrifice to make for the sake of my loved ones."

Edit: perhaps a little melodramatic, since every ninja makes sacrifices. I&S ninja, especially. But hyperbolic phrasing aside, Hazou-pilot has had to grow up quickly in the past year. It's a little bittersweet.

He had to, he grew into a clan lord of not negligble respect. And while his idealistic core is still there he is less of a firebrand tempered by cold clarity and ultilitarian pragmatism.
All in order to achieve his dreams and spite reality.

It sounds like we're close on MARS. IMO that's a good reason to delay, and, happily, we have a Vel scene to do during.

I'm planning on putting together a single Yuno scene and offscreen MARS research. That can't overflow and it'll be nice not to have to worry too much about wordcount.

(I will be refusing to add things that don't directly relate to Yuno or happen offscreen.)

If you incorporate some of my talking points, I'll vote for it.

Some more training plans!

[X] Training Plan - Akane: FOOM!
Resolve 60 -> 62 = 113 XP + 10 YSJ XP
After this step, I believe we only have two more before it is generally agreed that we begin leveling other stuff in meaningful ways.

[?] Training Plan - Hazo: Survival of the Fittest
Athletics 37 -> 39 = 77 XP
I think Hazo's xp amounts are currently a bit messed up. There should be an XP awarded post with 114 XP that was paid from the Sealing XP pool. This gives us enough to level Hazo's athletics a bit without moving his pyramid. Maybe a good idea since we might be going to O'uzu next chapter? Or maybe taijutsu instead? I leave it to someone else to figure out.

[F] Training Plan - Noburi: Not Enough XP
Poor Noburi still doesn't have enough XP for Earth Element. He is just about 60% of the way there!

[F] Training Plan - Kei: Not Enough XP
Poor Snowflake will have to wait a bit longer to get her full days of existence. Kei needs 200 more XP for that.

Do SC's need to sleep? Because im prety sure snow can go for 20 hours already.
Are you sure? I thought SC 40 was capped at 12 hours.

That seems like a good idea. A single scene + easily understood sealing instructions. Thankfully it's only as complicated as "Prep for six days, attempt the roll with Kagome's help" now. Maybe invoke some stuff, but I don't think we have the FP for it.

Yup. One of Naruto's clones said that they need to eat/shit, just like "normal" people, but that "Boss" (being Naruto Prime) usually takes care of all that before using SC.

That means biological processes are normal for SC (minus their fragility), so Snowflake likely needs sleep, too! ^.^

Good thing we set her up with her own bedroom (fanciest place on the Goketsu Estate, even)! :D
