Do we know anyone in the village other than Orochimaru who would be interested in researching the Dragonbits?

If we can get Asuma to sign off on a research program etc. then we can just bind Orochimaru to it, or, if we're feeling nice, hand him a small quantity of material while making it clear that he can go through the approved procedure for more.

If he's literally the only interested party then I don't think that we're going to get anyone else interested in backing us up.

I still have absolutely no idea why are we not using Noburi to get Kabuto as a go-between/back channel with Oro. Nobby is still alive and well, surely he can get the job done?

Kabuto may not still be alive. If he is, I would greatly prefer going through him if possible. I also think that Orochimaru would greatly prefer it. He has plenty to do right now, and would undoubtedly prefer to have 'lesser beings' do mundane things like negotiate for new samples.

If Kabuto isn't alive, I'm cautiously optimistic that one of the QMs would have said something about it given that such a Kabuto-heavy plan passed...unless they had nefarious schemes involving his absence. I can't think of much worse than showing up to the hospital and finding Orochimaru packing his things up.

@Velorien and @eaglejarl - do we know if Kabuto is alive, or what his status is? (e.g,, healthy and going on missions, healthy and strictly working out of Konoha, injured and going on missions, injured and confined to Konoha, etc.)

Note: This seal is a complete pain in the ass for the QMs. There are a crapton of physics questions that can be asked and we have neither the background nor the spoons to deal with it. We've done our best to answer as many of them as we can and we are going to do our best to be consistent about applying those answers. That said, if we forget something and do it wrong or if we have to make a judgment call and it ends up being inconsistent then chakra be trollin', yo.
The beautiful irony being that these questions mostly don't matter and nobody has given a high impact use for them.

[This second section of my post is removed. I misunderstood how voting was being tallied.]

Or that we weren't paying attention to the plans/the vote.

I'm fairly sure Velorien has gone to bed, so we'll answer the Kabuto thing tomorrow.

Then again mechanically speaking mastering the usage of you're tailed beast like Yagura and B did probably just gives you a S-rank level baseline statline, and to get even stronger after that probably requires to invest almost as much XP as it would have cost to get to that point in the first place.

Meaning that Yagura probably wasn't all that much stronger at 16 years old, as opposed to when he was 6-7 years old.

Ehh. Maybe if you're speaking in terms of raw stat lines, and only maybe. However, with time, raw strength, and a dictator's power he would have had plenty of opportunity to pickup new tricks, trump cards, and multipliers. Mechanically speaking, stunts, seals and buff jutsu.

Shikamaru: "as you can see, some of our ninja frequently end up in a quantum superpositioned state in which they are simultaneously alive and dead until someone who acts as a celestial focus observes them and determines their status."
Keiko: "or maybe they are just unaccounted for in the ledgers"
Shikamaru: "yes, that is a possibility as well"

Just look at any of the snake themed organizations that he founded.
From what I can tell, they're fanboys. He didn't found them, they just think he's cool and are copying his aesthetic. Could be that's all put on, but he talks about killing them until they stop bothering him. Maybe not the model of cooperation we want.
If we give Oro a scale we are showing him that we are a potentially useful ally that he can get value out of.
Give? How about demonstrate, and sell
If he wants more we give him a prosocial way to get them that also benefits us. Oro def has resources that would benefit us at a very small cost to himself. People are worried about Akane's survivability, Oro 100% has a jutsu that could help keep her safe. There are so many things that he has that would be helpful. Finally if worst comes to worst and he demands everything while blasting us with his aura we are in the same boat if he decided he wanted them that badly if we don't go to him.
We worked hard for that scale and if Oro wants exclusive rights to it he should buy it from us.

I'm not against approaching Kabuto and seeing if Oro is down to trade some.

Since Kabuto's alive, let's negotiate with him to sell some of the dragon parts for stuff. Since we don't need to negotiate directly with Oro, we can probably get a much better deal, since we won't be constantly worried about our immediate vivisection.

Stuff we should ask for:
  • Any knowledge gained about the dragons from the dragon parts, that could be related to fighting them
  • Training jutsu
  • Techniques that make you harder to kill
  • Advanced medical knowledge/techniques for Noburi to learn when he's ready
  • Pet octocats. At least 2, or the deals off
    • We shall name one Fluffles, and the other Tezcatlipoca

Edit:
I just realized that Tezcatlipoca has cat in its name. Truly, this was meant to be.

Isn't the medical technique the only one we know he has? Training jutsu tend to be clan secrets, so it's a possibility that Kabuto and Oro just don't have them.

I agree with talking to Kabuto over Oro but...still think we should wait a bit. Maybe a few hundred exp more. And a few sealing expos more just to make sure.

Frankly I'm just glad that Kabuto didn't Matryoshka Doll into a new form during the 19 cataclysm's since we saw him last.

New plan*! Lets get Oro on our good side with the power of Queerness! Introduce him to the concept of Gender as distinct from Sex, and let him(?) go wild. Hell, if we ever get a big enough Don't Be Evil Orochimaru stick, we can even set him a challenge with trans reassignment stuff. Even if it produces an evil technique, we have a lot of enemies in setting that existentially oppose us and the people that want said technique. Probably too deep in hypotheticals, but a fun horizon.

*Orochimaru is an evil genie, any interaction with him will twist our results terribly. All plans involving him must involve an element of cutting off a limb before the infection spreads, or heavy moral supervision over a long term. I love transhumanism, but Oro's methods are all about self-exaltation, not Uplift. The ends and means don't add up the same.

Sorry for rambling, my Pfizer booster shot is kicking my ass and my brain is melted. I've enjoyed the revelations in recent chapters and the Light Relay stuff is delicious.

@eaglejarl @Velorien

I'd like to suggest a very mild amount of standardization when it comes to combat seals. To wit: That a seal craft of a given level that is intended for improving combat effectiveness will usually provide a benefit of approximately the AB that the TN would have if it were a skill. For instance, if we did "mumble mumble improvements" to macerators (at something like TN 40), we could get it from giving +3 to taijutsu rolls to +5 to taijutsu rolls.

This is only intended for seals that can be construed as buff type seals that are on some level dependent on the sealmaster's skills (Macerators yes, banshees less so) , but it could help lighten the QM workload.

If you'd like us to put similar levels of effort as you guys have into LR for our seals, some guidance would be of help there too, so that in the future we can have all of this stuff lain out for you guys ahead of time.

Or we ask about Biosealing?
