The Arachnids managed to recover five scales, one tooth, and parts of three claws. The longest of those is four feet long and curved like a sickle. The other two are fragments peeled away from the claw itself, the first one twelve inches long and the second nine inches. The largest of the scales is taller than Hazō, four inches thick, and the bottom edge is a razor-sharp serrated nightmare. The other scales are smaller, ranging in size from two feet across to the size of Hazō's palm.
What are the rough dimensions/shape/mass of the tooth?

Prototype answer: 'you may treat the tooth like the large claw, but smaller - we don't have exact numbers for the size or weight, but it looks something like the claw in that it's curved and narrows to a point and isn't sharp on any edge. For now let's say that it's about as dense as the claw. You'd need to do some testing to determine any differences in mechanical properties between the claw and tooth. Hazo differentiates the tooth from the claw based on shape, size, colour, and surface finish right now. All of the dragonbits seem to eat through material at a similar speed adjusting for surface area.'

Are all of the cut surfaces fairly sharp (quoted as being almost as sharp as the blade of a kunai) but otherwise pretty normal-looking? (The pieces don't appear to be hollow/layered in any interesting or useful way?)

Prototype answer: 'the big claw and tooth exhibit some changes going from the outside to the inside, but it doesn't look substantial - it's just colour and texture, as far as Hazo can tell. The claw fragments seem entirely uniform in material. The sharpness of the edges depends somewhat on the angle of the cut - the shallow cuts of the claw fragments seem like they'd be sharper than the closer-to-90-degree cuts of the big claw and tooth - but it seems uniform across the pieces. The same is true for the scale, except for the uncut surfaces, which look like they'd rip your fingers off just looking at them.'

There are no gremlins in these answers. The only possible gotcha is that I would like to try to extract the razor-sharp edge of a scale and see if we can fix it to something to make an edged weapon - if there are straight sections, it would make a terrifying sword, or maybe a fun axe if it's more curved.

[X] Akane Training Plan: FOOM Step

[X] Action Plan: Family That Trains Together
Word Count: <300
  • Mari
    • Emphasize to Mari that everyone we train has gotten much better results. More power, more capacity to learn.
    • If this is replicable to her, then we need to do it, as we wish to optimize Mari's survival and thus her power
      • If she's still not convinced, then offer a month trial so she can test it
    • If it works, let us do the same with Haru.
  • Yuno
    • Work through Noburi
    • Explain to him about the improvement people have experienced under our guidance, we want the same for her.
    • Also stress that we want to optimize her survival for obvious reasons
    • Hint at possible future SC and FOOM implications
    • Have him handle any possible faux-paus such as this somehow being super intimate or a declaration of love
    • If it is intimate, like that perhaps he can be our proxy
  • Kagome
    • Give him the same reasoning: optimizing his survival and the fact that people under us experience more growth/gains in power
    • Fish about SC and Sealing and if it appeals to him
    • This is only a suggestion, not an order or anything, we just care about him and want to use our abilities to the fullest to help him
  • Offscreen (can possibly elevate some Mari questions to onscreen meeting)
    • Throw Mari a celebration for MARI
    • Ask Mari about planning to get Yuno and Kagome SC for FOOM
    • Ask Mari for advice about what to ask of Ami for FOOM
    • Clear with Mari how best to help Akane get through her trauma. If it's just simple spending time, do so.
    • Research ARS (LBF/Chakdar inspired Seal that activates a paired Seal when activated)

So I've been wondering why as a counter measure against Ami FOOMIng why don't we convince Mari to start FOOMInt? As we've seen now Mari is capable of playing at the same level socially. And if she started now she's always be ahead of Ami. Giving us a counter if we ever need to deploy it.

Since this is about the millionth time this discussion has happened and we never talk to Mari about it:

@eaglejarl @Velorien
If Hazou asked Mari if she's Shadow Clone Training, would she say yes? If no, why not?

[X] Action Plan: Reject Clan Council, Return to Forbidden Lore
Ask Cannai, Kumokogo, Shima and Fukasaku what they know (Names, abilities, stories, appearance/descriptions, symbols) about the Sage's band of five. Does that line up with anything Shikamaru knows?
Maybe we should do the first part (Ask Cannai, Kumokogo et al...) as prep? I know it's obvious we do that but it flows weirdly with the rest of the plan segment, which is wholly Shikamaru-centric.
Get Cannai's permission to keep largest Dragon pieces in Dog
Pedantic: "Ask Cannai to keep the largest Dragon pieces in Dog territory". Same word count, is a mite more polite about things, and the implication that we do this anyway means Hazou should IC just do it after.

I kind of agree but it is hard to naturally call back to that in as many words if the two sentences are split up... I'll try and trim things up a bit where I can

Sure, changed

[X] Action Plan: Reject Clan Council, Return to Forbidden Lore

  • Optimize with Mari
  • Shikamaru
    • Prep: Ask Cannai, Kumokogo, Shima and Fukasaku about the Sage's band of five. (Names, abilities, stories, appearance/descriptions, symbols)
    • Recount Cannai's poem.
    • Tread CAREFULLY. Discover aspects with Empathy regarding our brother-in-law/friend for tags. Invoke aspects involving Uplift, Dragonslaying, and worldsaving for Rapport.
    • The Great Seal situation has Hazou concerned about more existential threats the Sage left behind, intentionally or by wards crumbling in his absence.
      • "Seven locks for seven rocks". There's supposedly 7 paths, the Great Seal is a lock. Are there six more Great Seals to deal with, somewhere?
        • Is there legend of something similar on our path?
        • 'Flow of fire' could be lava, 'mighty waves' are presumably the sea, etc. Could these verses correspond to real-world locations? Where could we learn more?
          • Why would Shade be dangerous? Do you know who is singing?
    • Does the band of five info line up with anything Shikamaru knows?
  • Kabuto
    • (Confer with Asuma, get official backing for this arrangement.)
    • Bring Mari/Noburi
    • Goketsu wants to make some Dragon parts publicly available for study. Would you be willing to host them in a lab? Our compound isn't properly equipped for thorough investigation.
      • Provisions:
        • Goketsu maintains ownership of these Spoils of War. Any purchasing will be negotiated independently, approved by the Tower.
        • All research findings belong to the Tower, to be accessed by whomever the Hokage approves on request.
    • Should more parts be necessary, there are 5 more specimens on the 7th Path... (Subtext: Can you nudge Orochimaru again)
  • Misc (Offscreen)
    • Ensure Ami gets Isan dossier
    • Throw Mari a celebration for MARI
    • Ask Mari if SSSSS adoptions are still a concern.
    • Research ARS (LBF/Chakdar inspired Seal that activates a paired Seal when activated)
    • Ask Cannai to keep the largest Dragon pieces in Dog territory
latest round of updates are up

Yes, she is training with shadow clones.
Ok with this much less worried about giving Ami FOOM. Still delaying for as long as possible is ideal. As one of the conditions we can just add time till we teach her. Other stuff I would like is all her knowledge on the 5, reports on what she is doing, a custom jutsu for each of the younger generation of Team Uplift and, some number of favors per year that she has to put complete effort into.

What is that range based on? I think light can travel pretty much indefinitely.
Blah blah chakra is a troll blah.

EDIT: Sorry, that was unnecessarily dismissive. Let's try again.

The spec for the seal didn't give any particular details so far as I'm aware. As @Velorien clearly stated, we were asked to give a number based on no detail and we said "lacking other information, 3 meters". i.e. we're pulling this number out of thin air and you're welcome to suggest and provide evidence for something else. Personally, I'm not motivated to engage with questions that boil down to "you're wrong", but you're welcome to suggest an actual mechanic and provide support for why it should work and under what conditions it should not work.

I don't care that much about the technical details, but does the relay still work if it's folded like origami? Or a paper plane?

And we can always research a longer distance one, which should have a relatively low TN.

My understanding is that light of a particular color strikes the seal and the seal reacts by emitting light of a different color. How would that work if the seal isn't exposed to light because it's been folded up?

I think that depends on how bright and focused the light source is and how bright and focused the relay's light is.

And also noise made from other light source and how specific the relay is at detecting certain wavelength.

The answer is, annoying enough, is "it depends".

Do we specify both colours during the scribing/infusion/creation?
My question is if 100% of the seal needs to be exposed to react or just specific parts.
My understanding was that part of the spec was separating the elements such that we could fold the seal in half - light goes in on one side and out on the other. Obscuring the light-emitting component seems like it wouldn't impact the seal's ability to trigger...but it would also make it pretty pointless.

I think that 'when tested with HOWS, you were able to get 3 meters away and trigger the seal'. Brighter sources would probably trigger it from further away, and dimmer sources would need to be closer. This gives us a good idea of how sensitive it needs to be, and it makes perfect sense that there would be some activation threshold given that (at least given our understanding of light) there's light of certain colour all around us at all time, but it wouldn't be useful if the seal were constantly going off.

It would be interesting to see if 'adjacent' colours will trigger the seal from some lesser distance - if a purple-tuned LR could be triggered by , say, a magenta HOWS.

Really? I was imagining they laid flat and turned on after detecting the correct color so you'd have a long stretch of them slapped to flat ground. I didn't actually read the original specification though so that's on me haha

At only 3 meters is going to be a while till we can grind detectors to get cross country instant communication

Thanks and yeah you should be right, the folding part is mentioned here

  • When light of a certain color shines on the receiver, the seal emits light (deactivates when not shined on).
  • Fold the seal over boards and line them up for instant, low-bandwidth communication. Like signal flares, but directional.

I was more thinking about the actual trigger than the communication idea.

Now the question is just, how long do they actually live.
