@eaglejarl and @Velorien can we get a general update on the war as a whole?

Has Cloud done anything since Orochimaru's mission?

What are the Rock and Leaf casualties? Obviously not exact numbers (would cost you too many spoons and war is inherently uncertain, unless you have exact numbers already) but rough Leaf intelligence estimates.

Given the overall number deficits we should have an idea for how much longer Rock (or Leaf!) can maintain the current casualty rates.

think this covers all the bases. not word count optimized and with room to expand if need be

[X] Action Plan: Damage Control
Word Count: 280
  • Mari
    • Akane's distraught after her mission. Her self image is shattered, and Hazou's concerned she may be suicidal from guilt.
      • Mari's brought people back from the brink before. Akane needs that right now.
    • Akane's considering leaving the clan, feeling her sins make her unworthy of Uplift.
    • She may need to discover some things for herself, but Mari can help guide her. Hazou knows it.
    • Hazou will be filling Ino in right after this. He'll ask about Mari collaborating with the Yamanaka therapists.
      • Additionally, Hazou's asking Asuma to take her off her upcoming missions. If Hazou needs to take her place, Mari and Noburi may need to run the clan.
  • Ino
    • Your clanmate likely spoke of the mission already, but Akane is facing a crisis of faith, and/or a crisis of identity.
    • Akane believes herself unworthy of being in Goketsu and may be suicidal. She desperately needs support, and seems ashamed to be around Hazou.
      • Can Yamanaka therapists help?
    • Ino, Akane, and Hazou are a team now. Hazou knows Ino will do what she can to help.
    • Express appropriate concern and affection for Ino as well, not just for Akane. Her wellbeing is important too.
  • Asuma
    • Sanity check with Shikamaru, Ino, and Mari
    • Akane has battle shock and is potentially contemplating suicide. Hazou is concerned deploying her on a mission will result in her allowing herself to be killed.
      • This will affect the success of the mission.
    • Is there any way her deployment can be postponed, or canceled?
      • If essential, another Goketsu could take her place. Hazou, if necessary.
      • If not, Hazou would like to go with her.
  • Offscreen
    • Raise the possibility Shirogane was bait with Mari and the Nara

  • Akane is distraught after her last mission. Her self image has been shattered, and Hazou is concerned she may be feeling suicidal from guilt.
    • You've brought people back from the brink before. Akane needs that right now. Will you help her?
  • She's also considering leaving the clan, feeling that her sins make her unworthy of being with Uplift.

Also commentary to @eaglejarl @Velorien Didn't the previous plan get sanity-checked with Mari? How has she responded?

So this is just a basic patrol mission, right?

Konoha Field Manual: During wartime, border patrols shall not detain but instead murderize all noncombatants. Remains must be displayed for maximum psychological effect. The healthiest 30% of each noncom group shall be dealt mortal gut wounds and left to serve as noise markers.

Asuma: We're the nicest ninja village, all the others do more than 40%.

Why we refused to entertain a false flag mission on the first place?
Uplift principles and Hivemind not wanting to attack or hurt an ally in order to draw in more support. There was also an undercurrent of stepping on the gas to develop powerful weapons to hit Rock with as an alternative. Don't think Shika or Asuma know much about the air tunneling project though.

I also just don't think it would've worked, it was high risk for what is imo low reward

Dog dad: "Well, it's important to have someone ready to listen if they want to talk about it, but we mostly focus on tactile and other forms of support."
Hazo: "Thanks, that's brilliant, I'll send Mari to talk to her about it and then Ino to talk to her about it and then Asuma to talk to her about it."
Correction, the plan does not send Asuma to talk to her about it :V

Besides, how are you supposed to get tactile support if you don't inform the people who need to be doing the hugging???

On a very slightly more serious note, didn't Hazo have problems respecting other people's agency before? Trying to cancel her mission when she's focused on getting it done first and processing later seems like it could make things worse rather than better.

This seems more of a Sanity Check on the other side of things. Akane wants to repress the shit out of her issues and be distracted by a mission (that may or may not be a repeat of the very same circumstances that brought her to this point)? That's not a mindset that's conducive towards good decisions and being at your best out in the field --where any mistake/distraction could be your last. If Akane gets upset (I don't think she would, but I'll grant that Akane is currently emotionally compromised --thus prone to, potentially, acting in an irrational manner), then we can address it after we kick her out of her depressive/suicidal state.

To be completely honest? Right now I want Hazo to sit down with Asuma and explain that if he bungles shit into Akane committing suicide then things like 'loyalty' and 'treason' are out the fucking window. I don't even care about necromancy, I'll happily vote for Asuma to be subjected to so many sealing failures that he is retroactively erased from existence.

Asuma would then out-social Hazou into complacency, then have Hazou (and the entire Goketsu Clan) killed. Their existence would then be stricken from the annals of recorded history. Ino, Honoka, Shikamaru, and any other close confidante of a now-dead Goketsu would be heavily observed, until they either died or "revealed" a traitorous, non-WoF thought.

@Shrooms I'd like to cut the Asuma section and add spending the rest of the day with Akane.

[x] Action Plan: Measured Response
  • Akane
    • Ask that Akane explain her situation and feelings to Ino and Mari. Offer to go with, if she prefer. If she declines, delay or there are time after:
      • Spend the time and night with Akane, accommodating any requests that is not out of character from her baseline. (No resignation from the Clan, no self flagellation etc)
      • Ask to go thru mission load out with her. Help with any preparation.
      • Be honest about any concerns, communicate clearly. Try to avoid offending her.
  • Hazou
    • Try to use this time to relax. Do things we enjoy. Spend time with our girlfriend.
    • If Akane declines to spend time with us (or there were no time etc) still try to destress as much as possible. Spend some time with clan mates outside the closest circle, be seen.

While this is all good and something that should, in fact, be done. I would like to note that we'll need to put together a social plan sooner or later. Akane problems are not simple "guilt" or "Trauma", but some particular ideas and assumptions she made regarding herself:

1) She's unworthy of Uplift, because she sees Uplift as a code of conduct, something that it's not, or at least not that. (See Pain and his band of murderous S-rankers, that could, in fact, be considered Uplift)
2) She consider herself someone devoid of any real moral compass, a person without ideals that believes what people tell her to believe.
2 means she's (in her mind) willing to betray her own ideals the second someone important tells her to, and that makes 1 worse.

Now, while it is true that we cannot fix it, it's also untrue that we cannot give an helping hand, especially considering our unique insights in Uplift as an ideal and knowledge of the world/Akane.

Hazou can just join the mission and be there for her? Like a boyfriend? Doesn't fix the "follow order" problem, but fixes the "I don't know who I am and I am alone with another unstable girl" problem.

If Asuma wants something we can just be ordered via Kei-mail.

And the Air tunnel research can be delegated to the other sealmaster, there is no reason to keep this to ourselve. Just let Kagome lead/choose.

She leaves tomorrow. If we don't speak to Asuma she is deployed. If her mindset is bad she will die on the mission

Telling Mari and the Yamanaka mental health experts IS the Social plan. When he is needed for input on those things, he can contribute, but he absolutely shouldn't be heading any of this up

I appreciate that she is not in a fit state for peak performance, but I find it unlikely she will commit suicide or suicide-by-cop. I think spending time with her is more useful than running around rallying people without her being there for it, and more in line with Cannai's advice. Conversely, I do not like the idea of talking with Asuma, given he was the one to choose to deploy the Akane+Yuno pair, although I appreciate that we're approaching him with the idea of offering other Gouketsu to go in their stead. On that point, I believe Akane will take it poorly if we offer any other Gouketsu in her stead.

As an additional concern, I don't think she will commit treason nor refuse order neither at the current place she's at mentally.
