I can see how the conversation might have gotten there from inter-village trade being a thing from the point about asking Mist about their Scroll, does that count? (I have no problem with the outcome as written, nor do I really want to argue with a QM over plan interpretation - I'm just wondering how you've read it.)
That would be my assumption. There was also a couple of lines along the path of "determine what financial benefits there could be from this" that could easily lead to it given that Hazō started from a place of "international trade is a concept worth considering".

Also bear in mind that Asuma has finally shown is an area where he's unwilling to hear reason. Note that Hazō said "we can profit from this" and Assume heard "they can profit from this" without at all considering Leaf-biased exploitative trade practices.

so We need to have Noburi stay and romance Yuno while we are at the shrine. Then make a pit stop back in Leaf to pick him up for the koi heist

Noburi is with y'all and you're on your way to the shrine. He's not going to turn around at this point.

It was this bit:
Submit the idea of using Seventh Path for trade and communication.
  • Requires 2+ cooperating Clans. Each sends representatives to all other involved Clans, and gives representatives' contracts to their Summoner. This essentially connects all involved Clans and Summoners into one instant-travel network.
  • Linking all Leaf Scrolls this way would be good.
  • Does Mist have a Scroll? If yes, should we negotiate for involving them when we're there, for inter-village trade?
    • Teuchi implied he could obtain a Summoner's service; how likely is he to get them on board with this?
    • (Beforehand, determine what trade opportunities it'd create.)
If that was supposed to say "Leaf-only Clans", that didn't come across.

Preliminary plan.

[X] Action Plan: Dont Wanna Do This But Do It Right

Check with team. Field suggestions and ideas. Adjust according to feedback. Execute.
  • Precautions:
    • Note ninja, escape routes. Just in case.
  • Scope out the shrine, make a pilgrimage, and gather info.
    • Make an honest pilgrimage, try to genuinely find out the history of the place and all the accompanying minutiae. Go all out, we want to be able to write a book about this.
      • Listen for local legends. See if the Porcupine Summoner pops up.
      • Write down all the answers. Make a mental note of interesting bits of information (with respect to the Porcupine Summoner, the scroll, or Forbidden Lore(TM).
    • Talk to a wide variety of (hopefully) knowledgeable and influential-- monks, religious figures, guards captains, etc. The more info and perspectives you can get the better.
  • Make a note of other pilgrims. Anyone of interest?
  • After the first day, regroup at camp and share information you've found with each other under the usual OPSEC measures (Air Dome, Earth Dome, etc.)
  • Afterhours (If spare time left)
    • Hazo watches big birds. They seem to glide a lot.
    • Hang out at the tavern. Listen to merchants.

[X] Action Plan: Opening Moves

Work as a team. Have individuals adopt the following as a first approach. Everyone is welcome to add their own suggestions and/or personal flavor. Implement as necessary.

    • Make an honest pilgrimage, try to genuinely find out the history of the place and all the accompanying minutiae.
      • Really go all out on the questions. You want to be able to write a ten-foot-long treatise about this place from the information you get. Don't explicitly mention the Porcupine summoner to the general population of people you're asking -- it might not be common knowledge.
      • Write down all the answers. Make a mental note of interesting bits of information (with respect to the Porcupine Summoner, the scroll, or Hazou's Growing List of Forbidden Lore Data (HGLFLD! for short)).
    • Talk to a wide variety of (hopefully) knowledgable and influential-- monks, religious figures, guards captains, etc. -- people on the above. The more info and perspectives you can get the better.
    • Make a note of other pilgrims. Anyone of interest?
  • Talk to any of J's contacts in the area. Ask for information on the Porcupine Summoner /scroll.
  • After the first day, regroup at camp and share information you've found with each other under the usual OPSEC measures (Air Dome, Earth Dome, etc.)

    • Hazo conducts scientific experiment on rocks. Heavier rocks fall faster, right?

MMKII's better than mine. I copied and paste.

I keep saying on discord that we need to adopt Sakura and teach her the MULTI-TARGET GENJUTSU. Seriously. Pretend the memory-wipe thing doesn't exist, and that thing is still crazy powerful, and something I will be campaigning for Hazou to learn when we have the XP for it.
"Wow, nobody's made that face since Kagome caught me trying to inscribe a storage seal onto a Mobius strip.

-or when those Mountain-nin heard me suggest that we all mix our blood together and sign the summoning scroll simultaneously.

-or when I suggested that Pandaa learn genjutsu so he could snipe people's brains into stone..."
Just wait until he learns the auditory variant.

Which, for him, is telepathy.

Which he can augment with drill sergeant jutsu.

For surprisingly little XP we can turn the Panda into the world's most adorable WMD. We probably wouldn't even have to tell him.

*sigh*

Chapter three...

Added "mingle with merchants".

This is afterhours, after the main mission.

I'm guessing he checked the general idea. But his execution, bringing up rock and his specific phrasing/spin was not checked with.
Hazou does foot in mouth but no fate points. Sad face

so didn't tell asuma we contributing sealing notes. Worrying. might wanna tell Mari to do that

"I...might have annoyed the Hokage. A little."

The statement was met with groans, an increased pace, and a complete lack of acceptance of his protestations.
confuses me why they only react now. thought it was implied in his convo with Mari.

@Lailoken Why would panda be a great genjutsu user/WMD? what does drill seargent jutsu do?

I'm a bit confused why Hazou's mind went to Cloud and Rock instead of Mist and Sand, since the latter two are Leaf's allies moreso than the former two.

Especially since Mist is the village mentioned in the plan by name:

Because Leaf doesn't fight them, they fight Cloud and Rock.
Oh, I see, the argument is that in the context of "it's better to trade than fight" Hazou would have thought of Cloud/Rock instead of Mist and Sand? I'm...still conflicted over that, since Hazou could have just pointed out how valuable Mist is now to Leaf even though they were ready to go to war mere months earlier. But I can still see your reasoning.

Jiraiya flipped the heck out in front of all the other Hokage at the very notion of anybody draining the chakra of a summon on the grounds that summons routinely use atypical chakra types including nature chakra, which is notorious for turning humans into statues.

We have WOG that genjutsu involves injecting chakra directly into the target's brain.

Drill Sargeant jutsu turns the standard summon telepathic translation jutsu into a VERY LOUD SHOUT.

Well, Asuma seems annoyed with us --but not irreparably so. This is fixable, but depending on the level of complexity, Mari might not be able to fix this (she's still on autopilot, but her automatic is better than most people's best). Even if she does, Mari's mental situation might be worsened, depending on the level of manipulation she has to go to.

Kinda sad that Yuno won't be joining us, but I'm glad she won't just be left alone. Gives us time to smack Noburi upside the head a few times and tell him to get his shit together or let Yuno go. Also, more Akane is always a win! :)

Bit worried Asuma will discover Yuno outcast status and do something to her

Like emotionally manipulate her because it's quite obvious she is craving validation as someone who lived as an outcast?

She's also on (more than) friendly terms with the Pangolin Summoner's brother and that alone will give her legitimacy for her status as ambassador for either side.

She'll be safe even from a coldly pragmatic stand point.
