How confident are you that lack of Frozen Skein will slow her down more than the unshackling of her mental abilities will speed her up?

Only a concise summary to the extent that it was relevant to the "mission" ("Lord Hyuuga objected that...").

What about Pain's monologuing? Is that in there?

let us walk tall yet carefully and ask her to politically nuke our political opponents with her personal brand of political youthfulness.

Perhaps we could spend a favour to transform Ami's Political Youthfulness into Political YOUTHFULness. It might not change her ends, but the means would be so much more entertaining.

Ditto. It's not like there were any stenographers standing by while the survivors were bargaining for the fate of the world.

Some weird guy controlling all bijuu sounds like a good reason to pay attention.

Doesn't matter.

Anyway, Ami is dangerous, dangerous things belong to us (like WMD's or resurrection techniques).

So everyone actually knows there's seven Akatsuki members who were collectively strong enough to stand up to the five major villages' combined forces, still out there and doing who knows what, while said major villages are incredibly vulnerable and Kage-less? And nobody is panicking? There isn't an emergency meeting of the council to figure out how to prevent Konoha's destruction if the Akatsuki decide to attack in full force?

These people are nuts. We really, really need to drive this point home in every discussion with a clan head or Hokage candidate. We're currently living on Akatsuki's good will, and I suspect they don't have much left.
In fact, we should point out that we have multiple potential points of contact to make sure that our goodwill with Akatsuki remains. The fallen Uchiha, for instance.

I don't know what you expect from traumatized rain ninja who recruited crazy missing-nins to enact his plan without communicating a god damn thing to anyone.

If "Contact Akatsuki and find out what the fuck they know and how the fuck they know it and then ask them to join Team Save the World Part 2: Electric Boogaloo" isn't the highest priority on our mid-to-long term instrumental goal list, I don't know what the thread is smoking.

I will retain high support for getting highly involved in any hypothetical negotiations between Akatsuki and Leaf or any safe interactions with Akatsuki within our domain of responsibility within Leaf. You're right that the free-floating mostly-peace-seeking S-rankers out there are in a position to decide the fate of the Elemental Nations and if we can sway things at all there then we should.

That said, I am not in favour of doing things that are outside of our domain of responsibility that would be considered treason, such as being caught colluding with notorious criminals who tried to destroy the world and did kill Godaime Hokage Jiraiya.

So... with the emphasis on 'caught' there, howzabout we send a message to the Crows once we've sorted the Hat thing? If we could convince Itachi to convince the rest of Akatsuki to start negotiating with the Hokage, we could plausibly attempt to orchestrate a Leaf-Akatsuki alliance for the sake of preventing WW4 and creating a lasting peace.

I too would like to avoid being court martialed, so lets just not get caught.

Hey, look! Deceit is useful for that! Disguises are useful for that! Lucky coincidence :D

What's this talk of Akatsuki being remotely benevolent? Aren't they all mass murderers? Like,

'Hi Deidara, would you like to work with us on-", BOOM!!

'Hi Itachi, would you consider...I understand, here are our summon scrolls. I will return to my village and await further orders.'

Pain was able to deal with these guys from a position of strength. That doesn't mean we can do the same from a position of utter helplessness.

I think the cat is out of the bag already there though. She's already here, so we have no real choice but to play the game.

The question is: which game?

In my opinion, the best plan is talk-no-jutsu, thanks to chunin exams we have more than enough information.
We are not going to out-social nor stop her(Best way to do so is going to Tsunade and warning her about Ami), but we can at least try to break her shell, Ami is extremely alone, and we know more about her than a fair amount of people, we can use this.
We just need to her interested in us enough to not hinder the clan, and works from there, until she's a member of Uplift.
I could be saying this because i would love to read that interaction between Hazou and Ami.

And "Acquire Konan paper manipulation jutsu" (even if she killed Jiraiya).
Naruto won't take that well.

Their mission statement is "Let me save lives or you will die." They're clearly well-intentioned extremists from a neutral perspective, and arguably they could be considered the good guys--assuming their crazy plan worked and didn't cause a mega sealing failure that is.

Benevolence is really a question of how aligned your goals are. It doesn't really matter if they're mass murderers or not, thats a morality question.

Everything involving Pain. Specifically, a detailed description of the ritual site, including materials used, and everything observed about the resurrection ninjutsu (inc. hand seals). This information is high-clearance and is not available to most ninja.
Alright, time for another attempt.

@eaglejarl, you previously promised that if we don't want it to, no update for this IC week will involve a timeskip longer than two hours. Does this still hold? If yes, I vote we spend some time on mid-term plans:

[x] Action Plan: "More Like a Cobweb, Really"
Timeline: Immediately after Chapter 267.
Wordcount: 299

  • Get Mari, Kagome, papers, a blackboard, writing implements. Go into a high-security room (anti-hyuuga seals...).
    • Brainstorm:
      • The Nara have a habit: spending five minutes each day contemplating how an enemy might be planning to destroy them.
      • Given thirty by-the-clock minutes, can we find any overlooked but fixable vulnerabilities in our clan?
      • Write ideas on the blackboard. Idea #1: People disguised as us poisoning our relations with merchants.
        • Or infiltrating our compound. Surely there's no way to disguise oneself that well? Although Fourth Event suggests otherwise...
        • Could one of us disguise self as, say, Hyuuga, and cause chaos?
      • Take extensive notes. Transcribe (concisely) the meeting and your stream-of-consciousness. Analyse how you think about things. Be thorough.
    • Get Noburi, if he's available. Share the BotG briefing.
      • What's Kagome's impression? Discuss:
        • RESURRECTION TECHNIQUE.
        • Pain's goal and nature.
        • "The Five".
        • Fate of the lost bijuu.
        • Contents and authorship of the Akatsuki book.
        • Detailed description of the ritual site.
      • Akatsuki:
        • They're loose, "pursuing peace the hard way". How insane would it be to contact them? If they're genuine about peace, you have suggestions...
        • We're at their mercy anyway. If we do nothing, they may decide to be direct: take over EN.
        • Could we somehow assemble their psychological profiles? We'd need tailored approaches.
    • Update Mari on Ami.
      • Can we trust her?
      • She may cause us trouble in Leaf. Does Mari have her handled?
      • Should we sell her any valuable information for favours?
      • Favour ideas:
        • Enlisting help with the elections.
        • Getting Iron Nerve socials.
        • "Become my mentor."
        • "Up to the favour's value, ...
          • ... maximize my social competence."
          • ... maximize my agency."
          • ... do whatever would be most beneficial for me."
    • Who are remaining Leaf jounin? Could we adopt the clanless ones (Anko, Ebisu, Kabuto, Minori, Kurenai...)?
  • Commit one instance of creative training.

Yes, they're mass murderers, but they're also stronger than any individual village at this point and not tied down to anything. If they wanted to they could wait for war to break out, destroy every village sequentially, and set up a new world order from the ashes. Probably.

I personally don't care what crimes they've got on their heads, as long as they're willing to cooperate for the sake of peace. We can initiate communication securely and safely through Seventh Path messages, and if we can convince them that the Leaf/Sand/Mist alliance might be willing to cooperate then they might be willing to start negotiations. And if they refuse, well, we're already at their mercy. Our only option then would be to wait and see if they make demands or just start destroying the system.

This is all assuming of course, that with their charismatic and godly (literally) leader dead, and any hopes of their master plan dashed to hell, that they all haven't gone their seperate ways to brood in typical shounen fashion.

That just makes our job harder though.
