@Oneiros, I would like this addressed with regards to your plan:

I'm going to point out that Team Asuma and Team Kurenai are NOT way down, and that Team Kurenai doesn't have motivation to ensure Team Uplift succeeds. Why would they take the risk to do these pre-event ambushes?

What do you do if the other teams say "No, we don't want to do a pre-event ambush"? They have no incentive to help us with it, as far as I can tell. Team Asuma is probably THE top team at this point, and Team Kurenai (Hinata in particular) has political reasons that they would rather see us fail.

You mentioned you would consider doing a small update after giving us the rules and then asking Velorien if he would do a lore update so that you would (as you have been looking forward to it greatly) be able to enjoy writing this event. Is this still something on the table here?

Yes, that's an option. Go back and find the vote I suggested using and vote it in. I will very sad but I will give you the short update.

For clarity: I'm not going to force this to be the event. If you guys vote for a ton of pre-event prep then fine, that's what we'll do. If you want to vote for "get us to the event and then stop", fine. I'll be sad and grumpy but I'll let it go.

@eaglejarl, would it be okay to divide the event portion of the plan into two parts, plan red and plan blue, with only the plan we end up needing counting towards the word total? I'm just concerned the people are basically trying to fit three plans into a few hundred words.
Sure. And, as long as we're bending the rules on OOC information: You'll be red team in the first round. As soon as I get signoff from the others we'll give you a 1-sentence summary of each of your assigned teammates.

Just making an addition to @faflec's plan. I don't think this can hurt us in any way

Step 1: Kill everybody
Step 2: Wait in a cell
Step 3: Win the exams by default

Anyway, I recall reading that larger storage scrolls are relatively easy to make. If nothing else, one would expect J to know how to draw an XL storage scroll.

I suggested that as an option, but eaglejarl went with my other suggestion of giving us the plan details so we could get the event started this update.

But then we have to plan for the first half of the (literally critical) event in less than 18 hours with:

1) No knowledge of if Hazou is Blue or Red (he would know this at event start?)
2) No knowledge of how the teams are divided up.
3) In addition to balancing whatever plan we already had in the works as far as preparations go.
4) Possibly ignoring how our strategy for Round 1 or Round 2 might need to be explained together.
5) Possibly without full input from the playerbase due to the shortened timespan we would have to create said plan

Am I the only one who sees this as somewhat unfair to the rest of the playerbase? I had somewhat sufficient time this afternoon to expend brainpower on the plan but not everyone did.

Yes, that's an option. Go back and find the vote I suggested using and vote it in. I will very sad but I will give you the short update.

Thank you.
So I hope you take into account my points above as for why this might've been less than optimal for us as a whole, and that we aren't trying to purposefully ruin or put off your enjoyment of this one.

Sorry if this is annoying or otherwise a pain in the ass.

@Oneiros A couple of things regarding your plan:
Check with Shikamaru after, especially on negotiation strategy.
Is there any particular reason we're asking Shikamaru on negotiation strategy, instead of our team? I'm honestly just a bit confused why Noburi and Keiko wouldn't suffice.
  • Kei: Summon every Pangolin she can (use her discretion).
  • Sleep for a few hours.
When and where is Keiko Summoning and [we're] sleeping? Are we Summoning Pangolins and leaving the barracks right after (why are we telegraphing our leaving the city)? Are we Summoning them after we leave (why sleep; Pangolins have a maintenance cost in chakra)? I'm a bit confused regarding the order of these events, as well as when we're leaving the city proper.
Goal: Track enemies, engage at discretion of squad leader.
Could do to have a bit more detail of how we'd take down our enemies. But given how good we are in general this need not be necessary. Maybe just say "use seal loadout + personal fighting styles, don't go lethal" or something like that?

@faflec if other teams want to ambush someone (or us specifically), Noburi going shopping alone might be a good opportunity.

Concerning the plans for the event:
4 "T&I facilities" have been constructed ~5 miles outside the walls of Mist, each in a different direction so they are well isolated from one another.

Keep in mind that finding/getting to the other locations won't be easy.

I really like how ambitious the plans are, though

I'm still confused as to what exactly the incentive is for Team Asuma and Team Kurenai to do the risky ambush plan that might get them injured or DQed.

And wouldn't them sticking close together make it quite obvious this was a STL effort rather than an individual team effort? Velorien outright told us that the proctors would judge things in a way that wouldn't be favorable for Leaf.

A good point. I'll change it to say that we go as a team.

Word Count: 232

[X] Default Plus
  • Sleep in shifts, maintain security, get to the event on time.
  • Tour barracks, introduce ourselves to remaining examinees.
    • Team applies practiced social-fu as appropriate.
    • Tone: Respectful/professional. Adjust if appropriate.
    • Purpose: Break the ice in preparation for Event. Be honest about this.
    • If possible talk to everyone from a village at once.
    • Don't overstay our welcome (limited time).
    • Start with smaller villages (without full teams).
      • More likely to be paired with them.
      • Skip Mist unless team thinks it's worthwhile.
  • Talk with Team Asuma for a way to contact each other during the Event.
  • Hazou makes extra seals: Banshee Slayers, Tunneler's Friend, Usamatsu's Glorious Life-Saving Preservers, explosives, Goo Bombs+LBF+5SB (for Jiraiya to infuse), macerators (OPSEC concern?)...
    • Basically he makes extras of anything he thinks might be useful in a combat/infiltration mission with multiple different teams working together.
  • Keiko goes to the Summoning Realm and gives her contracted Pangolins a sitrep on the upcoming Event (or what she knows of it).
    • Give Jiraiya possible seals to infuse.
  • Go shopping (as a team).
    • Try to find some nonlethal poisons that can work via physical contact or can be spread via macerator.
    • Buy some extra lockboxes, put in storage seals, bring to Event. Try to match Team Kurenai's description of the lockboxes they saw, if possible.
    • Make extra copies of dossiers. Don't distribute yet.
    • Pay Leaf ninja to refresh spent chakra, if necessary.

In Hazō's utterly uninformed opinion, while the proctors appear to be turning a blind eye to individual one-on-one ambushes (presumably only incompetent teams will fail to evade those in relatively familiar territory), setting up a meat grinder would be seen as usurping their testing privileges, since they want teams with decent information gathering skills to make it to the events so they can be tested. And Leaf teams will not get the benefit of the doubt if it comes down to a proctor judgement call.
This is why I'm considering the notion: if Keiko and/or Shikamaru think the plan isn't viable [especially if it's for this reason] the plan gets scrapped since there's no way Keiko would let Hazou pull a Neji. If they think it's good we're in business; if not we just...Default, I guess.

Hm. @Oneiros is it alright if I write up a small contingency for you to add to your plan in case the plan falls through?

Please DO NOT add it to your own plan. It is a very drastic change and I do not want it.

If we want to do some ambushing pre-event, we have a completely safe, completely Goketsu only way to do it:
1. Keiko summons one or two pangolins six hours before event.
2. Keiko sends said Pangolins out to ambush enemies en route to the event area.
3. Keiko drinks refreshing chakra water to get her reserves back on time, and Noburi asks DQed Leaf teams to top him back off.

I think that a large risk of the ambush plan is potentially low rewards compared to having Keiko spend a lot of chakra before the event for Pangolins.

She will definitely need as many of them as possible during the event and I'd rather all of us start with full chakra reserves.

Edit: In a best case scenario we would refill off the ambushed teams.

In a worst case scenario we get injured or knocked out and fail the event as a result

In a middle of the road scenario, maybe we either don't run into anyone or the battle is inconclusive before the team decides to escape

If Noburi can get chakra from the DQed Leaf teams, it costs us nothing. Keiko could have full reserves through chakra water, and Noburi would have a full barrel still.

Right but that's assuming a best case scenario.

As in my edit above, it's certainly possible the battle is inconclusive if they can escape us somehow.

Oh, wait, you're talking about the Total Slaughter version. I was thinking you were referring to my lesser version where a Pangolin was summoned six hours ahead of the event to do ambushes.
