They are already here.

Okay. The proctors see us. They would have turned their heads when the explosion went off. But they weren't looking before that.

What are they going to do? Will they chase us if we run? Will they assume we are responsible for the explosion? Can they recognize our incredibly recognizable henge?

They know we deployed the cloud.

So depending on how long they stay in the mist, anywhere from "not very" to "will not remember what happened here tomorrow".
This. Noburi assumed that people weren't stupid enough to just stand there when suddenly enveloped by suspicious mist out of nowhere, and calculated the dosage accordingly.

Let's say for a second that we take @Velorien's comments on the matter to mean that we can expect some serious consequences of not doing anything.
Reminder that the next update will be written by @eaglejarl, who has the freedom to review the conditions of the stampede, and discuss it with his fellow QMs, right up until the moment of publication. You may find that my ominous hints were right on the money, that the situation is nowhere near that bad, or that you have been strikingly optimistic in your assessments.

However, I get the feeling that the stampede isn't the main problem here. Rather, with confused, high-strung, blind and somewhat drunk young ninja concentrated in a small space, a fight could break out and lead to unpleasant consequences. Question is, can we somehow stop that from happening?

I don't think there really is. Not without risking disqualification and possibly screwing over all of Leaf in the process.

There's a difference between negligence and maliciousness. What exactly is it you think a Wakahisa could do with possibly a few seconds, uncertainty if we're Hazou or not, and likely in the middle of a panicked crowd?

They know our identity and may already be tracking us. Stepping into the mist could give them the opportunity to drain our precious little chakra we have remaining.

I admit this is not that likely, but we can't rule it out, and if the only action needed to mitigate against it is not stepping into the mist, I think it's correct not to.

We have 3 non-joke plans - exccluding the incomplete ones - going at the moment with just 1-3 votes each. Can we please not wait until the last minute and have people not panic vote?

Plans that disengage from the stampede completly:
[] Plan Running Like a Mole
Escape and link up with STL

[] Action Plan: Escape So We Can All Go To The Tournament Together
Similar to the above with different methods.

Plan that wants to intervene with the stampede:
[] Action Plan: Safety First
Throw goo bombs in the crowd, escape. No further actions listed however.

The discussion whether we should intervene in the stampede or not is going circles. Pick whichever plan supports your argument the best and if you manage to change someone's argument later, they can always revote. Anything is better than a winning plan with just 3 votes though.

The proctors were facing away from you when you deployed the cloud. They know where you are, but they can't see you.

My thinking here is "do not let the perfect get in the way of the good". We're not dealing with absolute certainty here no matter what we do. "Likely" and "unlikely" are our best bets for making judgements.

Fuck. We basically have no consensus on what is likely to happen next.

Well, we could write a plan that is basically "gather information / stay in the area for until people start emerging from the cloud or the cloud is dispersed. End update ocne we have visibility on what's happening".

But we should only do that if we believe there's somethign we can do once we see the 'bad' scenario and can make things better somehow. Which I don't really see.

Proposed changes to my plan. (not yet implemented) Feedback welcome.

Given this update shouldn't require a super huge plan, I'll take a crack at putting up a plan.

[X] Plan Running Like a Mole

Goals: Get out of the stampede zone, avoid being disqualified, reach Super Team Leaf and update them of the situation

Means:
  1. Hazou will get off the porch and onto dirt and use Hiding Like a Mole to go underground, without being noticed by the proctors and before the stampede hits him. He will either need to move forward into the mist, or move to the side opposite of where the proctors are, depending on his understanding of where everything is and what is least likely to get him spotted. He may also pop a Misterator if he deems it necessary to obscure his ability to escape undetected. He will use a Tunneler's Friend to allow himself to breathe while underground.
  2. From there, Hazou will move away from the zone quickly, with the goal of reaching the safe zone and Super Team Leaf. Hazou will use his knowledge of the grounds to determine an appropriate place to emerge without being spotted by other contestant. (the hedge maze, a conveniently placed bush near the marquee, etc.) Exclude the tunnel from before as a possibility, as your enemies have knowledge of it. If emerging close to the marquee, check briefly to see if proctors are already there questioning ST Leaf.
  3. Once with Super Team Leaf, update them on the situation. Use hand signals to imply that proctors may be inbound or listening in. State the story in such a way that you're not directly implicated in anything, and to make it appear to any eavesdroppers that the ST Leaf noticed that the temperature change was a trap to herd people in, that they didn't allow themselves to be herded, and that you were sent in to do recon since you had a means to escape. Make it clear that you think whoever incited the panic with the explosive tag is an idiot, and that the likely mass disqualifications and possible civilian injuries that would result from that action could get anyone blamed for it kicked out of the tournament.
    1. If a proctor is already present, Hazou will use his judgement about whether to rejoin or not based on the context of what's going on. If he does think it appropriate, he will go in and notify the proctor of what happened, again without implicating himself or ST Leaf, and ask for instructions. Hazou may suggest that a break room be discretely prepared so Noburi could use his medical jutsu to tend to any civilian wounded, provided he can get some
      1. The desire here is to get the proctor focused on dealing with the immediate situation, losing focus on ST Leaf.
      2. If the proctor tries to blame Hazou for the incident, he will point out that inciting a panic in a mixed crowd of civilians and ninja is an obviously bad idea due to several obvious reasons, including the losing enough points to get thrown out of the tournament. He'll point out that his group includes the Nara heir and a Mori bloodline user, and that it isn't plausible that two people with their intelligence and abilities would condone such an idiotic idea, so it isn't really plausible you or your group is responsible.
  4. If able, work with Super Team Leaf to figure out a way to best take advantage of the new situation in order to maximize the amount of points that the group can get. See if you can get Nara to take a lead in planning, with Keiko's assistance to refine plans, using the excuse that you had inhaled a little of the alcohol and are a bit tipsy as an excuse.
    1. He does first suggest that the group may want to seek out a proctor and volunteer to help if there are any wounded civilians that need tending to. In particular, if Noburi can get some chakra loaned to him he could be discreetly taken to a break room to give on-site medical treatment.

Since there's some uncertainties regarding positioning of everything in the escape portion, some things are left to Hazou's judgement accordingly.

I also just changed the wording of some things. Changes are bolded.

Is there a reason not to shout "Doors are closed" before disengaging?

It would draw attention to us, and people might recognize our voice.

For all the grief I gave people for denying moral responsibility because there was an authority figure near by, they probably will prevent serious injury, and I am willing to take that risk.

Plus one more thing: if we drop a goo bomb, people might get stuck in the mist, and the proctors who know where we are might assume we just tried to kill them.

From our current position, and relative to the linked map, substitute to the left/West and immediately go underground with Hiding like a Mole (incurring mild consequences for going over CP capacity)
  • If there is furniture right on top of the Earth, use that as substitute target (spend FP as necessary). Otherwise use PMYF to sub with.

Tua, we don't have the chakra to use both Subtitution and Hiding Like a Mole. We can only do one.

Do not ask yourself whether the proctors can prove it was us. Ask yourself if any proctor may suspect that it might have been us.

Do not assume that DQing Leaf will be political suicide on Ren's part. Assume she is a good politician and can spin it to her advantage.

Ok... how does this apply to our situation though, beyond what has already been discussed? A proctor may suspect we were involved, but they're going to need something they can do to demonstrate their suspicions if they're going to disqualify us over it.

We can if we take the mild consequence of having -5% max CP for a day. Someone mentioned that mechanic a couple of pages ago.

We have a third of our max chakra. That's 33 or 34 points. My understanding is that using both techniques will take us to -6 chakra, which is -6%, which means we take the next level of consequences I believe. We'll also use one more point of chakra for every minute we're underground.

That's not what that means. Mild Consequence means -2 to all rolls for a day.
(After the round is over)

Guys IDK if hiding like a mole will work. We're on a porch/ front terrace of reasonable height and we'd have to dive down to the ground. The mist is covering us currently but it seems like it'd take too long to activate another misterators, dive, down AND use the jutsu.

It seems better just to spend fate points for an open window to sub through. I'd rather Hazou have to substitute/run through the mansion than potentially waste a round in his current location

Alright. Should probably still work out though.

From memory I thought we'd be 1 CP short but I can't find the post that stated this anymore.
