This reminds me:

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail How long will it take for Hazou and Noburi to recover from the poison? I think a B class wound takes 8 weeks? Is that correct, or will we be able to recover faster?
Presently under discussion.

We know of Strategic Domination, as well as Hallways and Humans, which is apparently common enough that the clan heads could play it with us.
Actually, Hallways and Humans is a pangolin game (hence why it refers to humans). The clan heads were invited to a different RPG of unspecified name.

In seriousness, what actually happened? Didn't they turn into a giant tree or something?
They fused all nine into the original Ten-Tails, used that to rampage for a bit, then used its power to cast Eternal Tsukuyomi, which included the Ten-Tails reverting to its original form as a giant tree. Not long after that, the story got so bad that I stopped watching (at the point where Gai performs a really epic heroic sacrifice and then Naruto waves a hand and resurrects him with his new Asura powers).

Now that's just bad infosec. They should use arbitrary large numbers for teams or random words or something that prevents people from knowing roughly how many teams there are.
Have you ever heard of Teams 1-6 or 12 upwards?

Hey, that's where I stopped watching, too!

Seriously, though, Gai's a freaking badass.

@faflec cradle for the babies that Mari will be having in the future?
For some reason I feel uncomfortable doing this, but I can't really think of a particular reason...Eh, sure.
Is this the order in which you want to research them? If yes, the plan should spell that out for the QMs.

Regarding the dinner with Akane's family: Jiraya still hasn't made our "real" story of how we came to be Leaf nin public. And I'm pretty sure he's not going to trust a civilian with the difference between actually true/currently "true"/soon to be "true". So our miracle may be a bit premature. Then again, the plan mentions asking Jiraya and Mari about any social moves first, does it not? So I guess if they give the go ahead then it's okay.

Lastly, can we include things in the plan which we specifically want to happen off screen?
  • Dunno about the order; like I said I'm really messed up on what to research.
  • QMs confirmed that it's not a "secret" but shouldn't be an "everyone knows" thing. I dunno what that means for Ishihara Sr. but feel that the current plan doesn't
  • I thought the QMs didn't like to be told to have off-screen or on-screen things? @Velorien Do you mind if we ask you to keep some things off-screen?
@huhYeahGoodPoint I added a lot of your stuff but not all of it (mostly the stuff I had trouble with, like Ino).

[X] Action Plan: Coming Home

Summary:
  • Report/debrief with the Hokage.
  • Take time to recover.
  • Socialize.
  • Plan for Mari-sensei's birthday.
  • Discuss (with Mari-sensei) telling Jiraiya about Kagome's knowledge.
  • Research & train.
Non-Binding Suggestions:
  • Report/debrief with the Hokage.
    • Give him full intel of everything that's happened since our last face-to-face report.
    • Tell Keiko/Kagome about the story Leaf's presenting to the world.
      • Make sure the room is secure, for obvious reasons.
      • Let Akane or Noburi recount the details.
  • Take time to recover.
    • Hazou and Noburi are poisoned with B-class wounds. Go to the hospital, or whatever equivalent Jiraiya approves.
    • The team (well, Hazou at the least) is traumatized from having killed dozens of civilian sailors. Ask if we can do something like therapy.
      • Kagome in particular has an ocean's worth of demons in his closet. Discuss this privately with Mari-sensei or Jiraiya, and then broach the subject with him.
  • Socialize.
    • Make sure Jiraiya and/or Mari-sensei clears these things, based on our technical missing-nin status/rocking the boat.
    • Dinner with Akane's family.
      • Make sure they're cleared to know that we're Leaf-nin now (otherwise the whole thing is pointless).
      • Don't rub it in Daddy Ishihara's face that we managed to do the impossible within the space of a month.
      • Be polite and keep a positive attitude.
        • This also means to steer conversation away from potentially traumatizing events.
      • Make small-talk:
        • What occupations do the two of you have? Is there anything I can do to help?
      • Discuss cornering the ice market in Konoha using Elemental Mastery.
        • Clear this with Akane AND Jiraiya first, in private.
        • Discuss combining with storage seals for continuous profit (in case Akane needs to do long-term missions).
        • Does Kenta have merchant experience? Any way to get on the Merchant council from this?
    • Make some new ninja friends our age.
      • See if Akane or Mari-sensei know some (new) people we should meet.
      • Try doing:
        • Discuss reading (Nara).
        • Board games (D&D?).
    • See if we can meet with Team Guy again.
      • MAKE SURE JIRAIYA APPROVES. BECAUSE GUY IS APPARENTLY POLITICAL POISON. SOMEHOW.
      • Philosophy discussion with Guy.
      • Sparring session with Lee.
      • Keiko can chill with Tenten, they have a really good thing going on.
  • Make plans for Mari-sensei's birthday.
    • Her birthday is in a month. A MONTH.
    • Possible suggestions:
      • Wedding dress/necklace or similar. Add seals?
      • Brooch of aquamarine surrounding ruby.
      • Tessen, sword, or similar.
      • Work with Kagome to make a baby-safe cradle.
  • Discuss (with Mari-sensei) telling Jiraiya about Kagome's knowledge.
    • Make sure all of this is done privately.
    • Specifically, discuss Akatsuki-related information and the locations of jinchuriki.
    • Only do it with Mari-sensei's approval.
      • What we know:
        • Akatuski originated in the Land of Rain. (this is the important part)
        • They wrote a book of some sort.
        • They were scattered in some fight where Hanzo of the Salamander got killed.
      • Why it's important now.
        • You (Jiraiya) mentioned that Akatsuki might have some sort of weather-control ability.
        • When we first entered the Land of Rain (post-Liberator) Noburi noticed chakra in the rain, which came as if out of nowhere.
        • The Land of Rain is where (Kagome thinks) Akatsuki originated.
      • Conclusion: Is it possible that your paranoia is correct, and that Akatsuki has been tracking our team using this chakra-rain ability?
      • Nine-Tails: Captured by Akatsuki
      • Eight-Tails: Cloud
      • Seven-Tails: ???
      • Six-Tails: ???
      • Five-Tails: Bear
      • Four-Tails: ???
      • Three-Tails: Captured by Akatsuki
      • Two-Tails: Demon (?)
      • One-Tails: Sand
  • Research & train.
    • DO THE TRAINING PLANS PLEASE WE HAVE SO MUCH XP TO BURN.
    • Research with Noburi: Chakra quantification
      • We don't know if there's been research into this; ask him.
        • Improve combat efficiency.
        • Gives ability for non-sensors to measure their chakra levels.
        • Gives ability for ninja to determine minimum chakra levels to use techniques.
        • Gives ability for ninja to calculate chakra usage during combat (techniques and/or chakra boost).
        • Standardize the "chakra point".
        • Determine amount of chakra used when "chakra boosting" or casting a jutsu.
        • Determine effects of skill on "chakra boosting" or casting a jutsu.
    • Sealing research w/ Kagome:
      • Basic book/Nara seals.
      • Casino seals.
      • Hidden Mountain seals.
      • Lesser Barrier Formation.
      • Goo Bomb seals.
      • Impulse seals.

Have you ever heard of Teams 1-6 or 12 upwards?
My guess is that the team numbers are just used internally by Konoha to assign team members together before they are assigned to their sensei. After the sensei is assigned the team is identified by their sensei's name. Eg Team Kakashi. When the team members become jounin they get assigned to code-named squads.

Quick and dirty team estimates assuming linear numbering says there should be a number of teams in the low 20s.

Konoha entered 87 genin (29 three-man teams) into the chuunin exams in the eponymous arc.

Given the sequential and low numbers assigned to the Rookie 9, team numbers are almost definitely assigned linearly, with immediate reuse as teams break up for whatever reason (death, advancement out of team, etc).

Greater Naruto Cosmology:
  • A meteor strikes Earth, carrying with it a seed that grows into the God Tree.
    • The God Tree feeds on 'natural energy' and, left unchecked, has a tendency to render the host planet uninhabitable.
    • The God Tree also, every thousand years, produces a Chakra Fruit which, when eaten, gives you godlike powers through chakra.
  • Kaguya Otsutsuki, a traveler from another dimension, finds the God Tree on earth and eats the Chakra Fruit. She uses her godlike power to bring peace.
    • She turns evil and since she also knows her family will eventually follow her here she decides to trap all of humanity in fantasy worlds with the Infinite Tsukuyomi and turn them into an army of White Zetsu to defend her.
  • Kaguya has children, Hagoromo and Hamura, who both have some of her power. Enraged by this, Kaguya merges with the God Tree, becoming the Ten Tails, and tries to kill them and take their chakra back.
  • Despite her power boost, Hagoromo and Hamura manage to defeat her and split her in two. Her body becomes the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and her chakra is sealed inside Hagoromo.
    • The brothers then create the moon as a prison for the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, and Hamura goes to the moon and forms a clan there dedicated to keeping it safe.
    • Hagoromo takes the chakra of the Ten Tails and splits it into the Tailed Beasts.
  • Hagoromo also goes around giving chakra to everyone and teaching Ninshu, a religion/ideology of peace. Unfortunately, Ninshu is basically forgotten and people use chakra to kill each other instead.
From there you get a bunch of other crazy things like Kaguya creating Black Zetsu who messes with the ancient Uchiha stone tablet of the history of the world so that Madara ends up thinking reviving Kaguya will bring eternal peace or something. But all things considered, since the Ten Tails is Kaguya Otsutsuki merged with the God Tree, I think we can say that the Ten Tails is about half tree and half alien god.

This quest has ruined me for other quests. I expect every other QM to be as [MESSAGE EXPUNGED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MORALE] as y'all are, and am consistently surprised when things turn out okay in spite of a lack of abject paranoia by the playerbase.

Hey @PoptartProdigy You should fuck shit up in your quest due to player-induced stupidity. Like kill Jaffur, or make the Enemy notice where the Saiyans are.

You should see us PoC players when the QM whispered "taxes" into our ears, which will cause us to panic, because tax reform is terrifying.

You speak as though that kind of thong hasn't already occurred. ;) Such optimism! Very youthful. :lol

But yeah, this quest is a great inspiratoo for QMs.
TBH I don't think it really has. Dice rolls haven't gotten people killed, and honestly the scout leader should have ordered a massacre to flush Kakara out instead of threatening to start a fight.

/offtopic end

We didn't have anybody killed until two chapters ago, and that was because we chose to speed up the process instead of waiting out at that lady's place. It wasn't even anything wrong that we did.

Kenta may already have a job that he enjoys - actually, why not ask them what their current professions are as a matter of small talk?
@eaglejarl @OliWhail @Velorien Can't Akane tell us what her parents do professionally just like she told us her opinion on what to divulge to Jiraya before the voting closed?

Dunno about the order; like I said I'm really messed up on what to research.
I actually like the idea of researching the huge backlog of traced seals and such before going down the next crazy research path. Gives us a variety in how things could be done. But none of those would be instant, so some order, maybe from simplest to hardest or from most to least interesting, should be included so that the QMs don't have to randomly assign which seals we happen to know as the next crisis hits.

Simplest to hardest would be my vote, because the simpler ones will make the harder ones easier.

e:

@faflec @OliWhail @eaglejarl @Velorien This can occur either in-chapter (why I pinged faflec) or outside of it (why I pinged the rest of y'all), but according to Jiraiya, we need a briefing before we talk to any of the clans we haven't met.

I say do casino seals first. They aren't going to be crazy difficult and actually open up a new tech tree

@faflec, some of the Akatsuki information sounds like common knowledge. Their book was supposedly really popular, so Jiraiya almost certainly knows of it. I think we can avoid a small faux pas by clarifying that Jiraiya probably knows some if not most of it already.

I think her dad is canonically a woodworker or carpenter, if I'm remembering that one canon interlude on her background correctly.

By "this", you mean the briefing itself?
