Also, it is unlikely an operation from Jiraiya. We are breathing in poison gas after all.

Like eaglejarl said I didn't vote. The last contact triggered my paranoia sensors really badly. I just don't feel comfortable making plans since I got Minami killed the first time so decided not to vote

The Hozuki Mantle would have kinda fucked us this time around because of the MC reduction. The only advantage would have been Kagome who maybe could have blown her into pieces.

OK so here's a basic subplan for getting the fuck out of here. It's not complete since I'm trying to figure out if the Jonin would stay to trip us up and why they'd do that instead of digging below the Air Dome to destroy one of the two seals before killing us.
- Main Questline:
- Dispel.
- Heal whatever Noburi can do quickly medical-wise. Do not push him given what's already happened to us (disorientation, malus die).
- Do this while we're doing everything else.
- Confirm that the ninja has actually left the house.
- Activate Earth Release: Living Roots to track the enemy's movements.
- Activate Misterators inside the dome.
- Create clones (Earth or Water, it doesn't matter). Give Purifier seals + storage seal.
- Activate a second Air Dome, such that clones are between the two domes.
- Clones deactivate the outermost Air Dome.
- Noburi uses mist sense and checks for hostile chakra signatures.
- Search the house.
- Clones activate Purifier seals to remove traces of poison.
- Clones search house for information/clues on WTF JUST HAPPENED.
- Clones remove seals from Minami's body, then seal her in a storage seal.
- Escape.
- Calculate the nearest position to natural cover (trees, hills...).
- Use explosives to blow up the side of the house facing that cover.
- Also do the same with another point in the house, and send in fake clones of us (1 Hazou + 1 Noburi) going in that direction.
- Run. Chakra boost and Misterator our path.
- After getting to cover, Skywalk away.

If you didn't split the party up, I think things would have got worse. You could have won, but there would definitely have been more casualties. (Reminder: she one-shotted the one person to attack her, and was immune to MC bonuses.)
What escape routes could you have prepared from a building with exactly one exit which the jōnin made a point of locking?
Whom would you be ambushing, and where, after the jōnin sealed you in?
What would you have done differently under the assumption that this contact might be a ninja?

Another point against it being Jiraiya is also that he couldn't have known that we would split up and that 5 chunnin (one jonin?) vs 1 jonin isn't a very safe bet for precision killing of a single ninja. Jiraiya would probably do something different, but who knows.

Truthfully, that seems entirely in-character. It's just not human nature to be able to maintain constant paranoia in the face of the seeming routine. The danger didn't seem very great. I mean, already some voters are convinced that Jiraiya ordered the hit (I don't buy it) because we can't conceive how this could have happened! That's how not-in-danger we felt.
I know the assassin wanted to act cool and in control, but staying to attack a sealmaster who has foiled your ambush and has time to start pulling out seals seems like a poor choice. Even for a jounin.
She really has no way of knowing what Hazou has in his pocket if she wants to dig under the air dome and force the fight to keep going. Maybe he has enough explosion seals on his person to make sure they all die together. (SPOILER: He does!)

CCnJ: I perceive your attitude as very rude and combative and it bothers me. You talk about the QMs "punishing you", which I think is a maladaptive attitude for the goal of everyone having fun. You talk about how the team "cannot show competence", yet I see a lack of willingness to accept responsibility yourself: You did not vote, you did not suggest a plan, you did not suggest any contingencies, yet you throw shade. It would make me happy if you redirected some of your efforts towards fixing the issues that you are instead simply criticizing. As a very simple first step in that: if you don't vote and you don't offer suggestions then you should not complain if things don't go the way you like.

Hazou should use Living Root's to confirm her leave, I mean if he activates it right know he should be able to tell if someone is going away or not, even if he can't pin point her directly.

Clones who aren't moving will be able to dodge the technique, that's the other reason I'm using such a convoluted method.
For that matter, we have no proof that the being who killed Minami is the actual Jonin, and not a clone.
Though there is not serious loss...I'll add it.

Is it in-character for the Yakuza to leave people alive to spread the tale "don't mess with the Yakuza"? Or is this ninja tricking us into believing it such that we'd lower our guard?

Keep in mind that this situation would have gone MUCH WORSE per WoG.
There is no way that Jiraiya would deliberately frag his own clanmates in attempt to eliminate Minami, which is going to happen if everyone is there. What would be the point of gaining more family members and losing it and seeing your wife in tear?

I will note that clones have 1/3 the skill levels of their caster. If the enemy's clone was rolling those numbers, you guys are hosed. Muahahahaha

Short plans resulted in minimal discussion, which resulted in a one line plan getting voted in with no contingencies or suggestions. From an EXP standpoint alone that's going to cost us significantly, and while a more detailed plan might not have helped us here it can very easily mean the difference between life and death in other situations.
