[X] Action Plan: Leaf Leaf

How did you miss the chance to name this "Action Plan: Make Like a Tree and...."
:p

Some quick things for Hokage-sama before he goes to bed.
  • Note that the blue skinned swordsman from his reports matches up with Hoshigaki Kisame.
  • Ask the team, especially Kagome, if they recognize any of the rest of the group of unknown assailants from their descriptions, either individually or based on their uniform.

I'd be careful to phrase the comment regarding Kisame in a way that doesn't insult Jiraiya's intelligence. Kisame is an S-rank missing-nin that even some punk genin in Mist had heard of. Jiraiya damn well knows who he is and that sword-guy from the battle fits the description. If J didn't name him during the Council meeting, it's probably because he wanted to double-check the pictures in Leaf Intelligence archives before making a definitive statement.

One thing that I want to do after the current crisis is over is to get Big J (or someone else who's familiar with ninja levels) to evaluate each of our Party members, so we can get an idea of where we are narratively and how we should focus on improving. Like, if we're Chunin level in combat, that means we can more accurately plan for future conflicts. And stuff.

Unless of course someone wants to MATH their way into deconstructing the XP curve?
still working on constructing builds but we are pretty much mid level chunnin in my opinion

So.... how much of the story Jiraiya told the Council do you all think was bullshit? Here's what I find most interesting.

"Sarutobi-sensei engaged Yagura, I engaged Mei, Naruto engaged Zabuza, and our ANBU engaged their jōnin. In the ensuing battle we wiped out their jōnin force as well as Mei and Zabuza." He cleared his throat. "I didn't see what happened exactly, but when I finished with Mei I saw that Naruto had things well in hand with Zabuza, so I turned to help Sarutobi-sensei, who had taken a wound in his thigh and was having difficulty opening the distance. Before I could reach him, Yagura...." He paused, clearing his throat and wiping at his eyes for a moment. "Yagura killed Sensei.

Did that really happen? Did Yaguri really kill Hiruzen? Or did something else go down? Is Saturobi even dead? You notice all we saw was a sealed scroll.

If for some reason Saturobi decided he needed to fake his own death, this would be a great opportunity. Suppose Jiraiya went to Shikaku Nara first on his return. Suppose everything that happened in that Council room had been planned between the two of them beforehand. Suppose three months is the amount of time Saturobi is supposed to spend 'dead'.

Why would they do this? I'm not sure. But having the God of Shinobu loose when everyone thinks he's dead might just come in handy.

By the way, here's an interesting post from way back on relative combat ability.

Just so you know, this is the exact opposite of the situation in canon.

Canon!Jiraiya is not a spymaster. There's no evidence than he is. In fact, the one time he acts the part and infiltrates Rain, he is appalling at it. He doesn't even take off his signature forehead protector.

On the other hand, he is a combat monster - he's easily the strongest of the Three, being far more flexible than Tsunade, and far more of a heavy hitter than Orochimaru (whose main strengths are being utterly unkillable and Edo Tensei). He makes Itachi and Kisame flee in terror (though, granted, Itachi probably didn't want that fight for multiple reasons). He nearly solo'd Pain's six bodies, immediately after beating Konan, and only lost because of the body that can resurrect the rest.

That would be extremely bad for everyone involved. Jiraiya and Hiruzen would lose huge amounts of face for faking the situation even among their elite, since it indicates that they don't trust them one fucking bit.

And what would it gain? If Konoha needed an elite shinobi to "disappear" it would make orders of magnitude more sense for Jiraiya, the spymaster, to fake his death. He's not the face of Konoha and his death wouldn't fuck Leaf as much as Hiruzen's would.

I don't know why they would, but if it turns out to be true then at least I thought of it first even if both you and I were too stupid to figure out why it makes sense.

Hell, it could turn out that we're the activator for Tsunade as the sleeper agent - I mean, this is a literal S-class Konoha nin that just decided to get absolutely hammered and abandon the village? No, Tsunade is deep cover, and Hiruzen set it so that only his death could reactivate her as an active member.

E: Paranoia and conspiracy theories are fun! But also, notice Jiraiya never got touched by anyone. If Hiruzen henged as Jiraiya and wore his coat back....

Well... hypothetically, let's say the Hyuuga and co. were planning a coup.

Personally, assuming Kagome is accurate, my money is on Akatsuki crashing a body-swap.

If you assume Kagome is accurate what obviously happened was that the Sage killed nearly everyone (save Naruto) and took over Jiraiya's position. We'll see Naruto back in the next couple of weeks. :p

"Shut up and follow me," Jiraiya snarled. Hazō blinked at the sight of him; Jiraiya's face was covered in bruises and parts of his hair were burned off. He wore a field uniform and pack instead of the traditional robes and sandals that he favored while in Leaf. The uniform was torn and covered in road dust and splashes of blood.

    • Do we have authorization to use Skywalkers for speed/stealth purposes?
    • Say that you're sorry for his loss, in Hazou-speak. Something simple like "I'm so sorry for your loss".

The briefing inside the meeting room is probably classified information. Are you sure we are allowed to talk about it?

When Kagome was telling Hazou and Mari about the times he was kidnapped by Akatsuki or that the Sage's brother is in Hidden Rain did they remember the time they crossed into it and Noburi said the falling rain had chakra in it? Kagome spoke about Deideria and Sasori so he may recognize them or the bird if we ask Jiraiya to describe them and thier fighting styles.
