Okay, we need to invent the "locked in altitude, mobile in longitude/latitude" seal.

This is now something of a priority since we need to regain our air-supremacy. It was always necessary for HH, But now it's necessary for getting back our comparative advantage over Leaf, as well.

I agree with the sentiment of this statement, but it probably is not the wisest to make that seal in a village full of sensor-clan-magic-bullshit-ninja. If we are trying to make sure Leaf doesn't get it

We can't activate seals with our feet. The QMs said you need to touch a seal with your hands to activate it.
Did they say that about our current array or seals, or about seals, fundamentally? Couldn't that be its own research project - adapt Seal X to be triggered by less structured pulses of chakra? Or, even more crudely, create a seal which once it is triggered by hand it has a limited time / number of times it can be triggered by foot-pulses.

Like, the casino seals can probably detect treewalking - maybe base it on that..?

If it's impossible to interface with seals using chakra from the feet, everyone just needs to get swole as fuck and use little bars of wood (E: rings or some similar shape is probably better) with toggleable KRS on them to swing through the air like terrifying battle-wizard orangutans from hell.

Seals fundamentally.

You need precise control to activate a seal. Non-Hyuuga only have that degree of control in their hands.
Damn. I believe you, but have you got a quote I can mine for loopholes?

Also, still have the detect-chakra workaround and the handheld seals workaround to consider.

I'm now picturing whole platoons of Leaf nin basically swimming really poor butterfly through the air towards the enemy lines - pulling themselves forward with both hands at once :D

No, you see, that's the point of ARS.

With ARS, you can have the KRS on your feet, but still activate them with your hands.

For the record, I'm on board with this plan even if it's possible to make foot based seals.

Something I missed until this re-read. Jiraiya is privately disappointed with us for failing to protect our comrade Akane, and moves so she doesn't have to sacrifice her old life and reputation entirely for the sake of our team.

"Hokage, sir, I, uh, don't mean to be rude," Hazō stammered as Inoue-sensei turned towards him in barely-suppressed horror, "but could I ask about Ishihara Akane's condition first? Is she going to be all right?"

Jiraiya snorted for reasons known only to himself. The Hokage gave him a brief sideways look of disapproval, then returned to Hazō.

This could be Jiraiya's amusement at the cute kid worrying about his crush so much to speak out of turn here, but it could also be Jiraiya thinking it rich we're so concerned about her now when it was our negligence that let it happen in the first place.

Hazō looked at Jiraiya, feeling the shock of betrayal. What happened to Akane's right to decide which side she wanted to stay with?

"If she still wants to be part of your group after you nearly let her die," Jiraiya said coolly, "she may be able to serve as your liaison with Leaf. Or spy from Leaf, or whatever official fiction we come up with. But make no mistake—she's home now, she was never a missing-nin, and if you want to keep working with her, you will have to keep working with Leaf."

Yeah, he's annoyed with us on Akane's behalf. And since his maneuver actually did actually kinda benefit her, I'm willing to let this go.

There was a part of Hazō that wished he'd been the one to torture Arikada for information. He wanted to hurt her, so much, for what she'd done to his Akane, and for what she'd nearly done to Akane, to make her scream, and he knew that now he never could.

Another part of him was looking at himself in horror, for impulses that he never knew he'd had. Did other people feel like this, feel the instinct to protect one's own turning into a desire—a need—for violence? If it had been him torturing Arikada, would he have been able to stop when he had what he needed?

For the first time, Hazō realised why Mist trained its ninja to be tools. He'd always assumed it was to remove compassion, to avoid it staying your hand when you needed to hurt or kill. But it wasn't, was it? Mist turned its ninja into tools because a tool would know when to stop. It would do what was necessary and exactly what was necessary, never being consumed by anger or hatred or bloodlust or any of the infinite darker passions brought out by the battlefield. It was because Inoue-sensei could turn herself into a tool that she was able to save Akane and complete the mission. Could Hazō have done the same?

This part worried me a bit.

He wanted to hurt her, so much, for what she'd done to his Akane,

But this part <3

We could take this time in the village as a vacation and do a bunch of information gathering to get a better handle on the state of the world. We can start getting people used to the idea of using ninja powers for really mundane things that benefit everyone while acting as touristy as we can. For example, using MEW to fix a pothole in a road but also fixing up as much of the road as we can with the given reason of not wanting the patch to look out of place. Simple but far reaching acts of kindness that wins the hearts and minds of everyone, and inspires them to pass on that act of kindness.

This would be a great time for some lore updates, and character driven exploration.

Note that if he fails his rolls, he might get mind scanned. Which seems bad.

Possible, but failing a single diplomancy roll resulting in a mind scan seems a bit overkill to me... maybe if it was a critical failure? I am unsure, but simply not getting to know our watchers seems a bit impolite as well.

How about we have Mari save his ass if he fails? Her rolls should be enough to compensate and if not I guess it was fated to happen.

I might be reading Kagome wrong, but I think he'd take this poorly (What! Stinking Stinkers can read about my seals! You'd sell my secrets?!? I thought you were my friend!)

This was actually a throwback to one of the earlier chapters where Hazou was first convincing Kagome to come with us. I'll see if I can find the section where Kagome expresses some interest in some day being renowned for his sealing talents.

I am heartily in favor of this plan, though I think we might want something to address Jiraiya, since we are still talking with him. If we want to discuss options for the future, it'd make sense to bring them up now, even if it's just to clarify what options exist. It feels to me that the chapter ended mid-conversation, so I feel like now is the perfect time to talk with Jiraiya about where we go from here. (Personal help squad, mostly autonomous deniable assets, village, etc.) Basically collect his input on what he thinks a good way to achieve our goals is.

"...and that is why we want to visit a library!" :p

In all seriousness though, I think now would be best to let Jiraiya think over our declaration while we engage in something safe and productive. We just dropped a happy bombshell on him and he will need time to process that (I'm betting that he was staring so intently at us for purposes of Deception rolls to see if we were fibbing just to placate him and was flabbergasted when he realized we were serious).

It also might be worth putting some contingencies about what to say to the Hokage if he summons us to talk about things (though for the most part, I'm pretty sure the right response is "don't speak unless spoken to, let Mari handle it")

I agree that Mari should handle Hiruzen whenever he pops up, but if he requests to speak with Hazou directly we should have a panic pause so that we can vote on what we want to tell the God of Shinobi in person.

I'm betting that he was staring so intently at us for purposes of Deception rolls to see if we were fibbing just to placate him and was flabbergasted when he realized we were serious
Huh. If someone suspects you're lying, and rolls deception against you, but you're telling the truth, how is that represented mechanically? Deliberately crit-failing your 'deception' roll?

I'll see if I can find the section where Kagome expresses some interest in some day being renowned for his sealing talents
Like I mentioned upthread, it was a very early Kagome scene, still in the woods, possibly within the first two or three times we ever saw him.

The librarian of Discworld's Unseen University is an orangutan, only capable of saying "ook". This is significant, because there are things in the library's books that man was not meant to know.

Also consider: having to operate stuff with your hands is suboptimal if it impairs jutsu use even slightly, so if we can derive chakra-detector activation seals to attach to the TKRS in our shoes from the casino seals that might still be the best alternative.

We have no reason at all to believe that ARS will impair jutsu use. Additionally, chakra detectors might be set off by other chakra effects near them. For instance, chakra-boosting TacMove, and suddenly having your foot locked in place, would result in your leg being torn apart.

Yeah, OliWhail pointed that out too. I had forgotten about that interaction.

Fair enough.

Agreed.

Latest update of Books:

Well, it seems we are finally in a situation where we can choose for ourselves what to do with our time. Let's do something productive like making our team not ignorant of the world around them:

[X] Action Plan: Oh my Jashin, Read a(ll) Book(s)!

Goals:
  1. Survive
  2. Don't piss off Leaf
    1. Be polite to everyone we meet
    2. Listen to our handlers and follow their instructions to the letter
    3. Don't give the Yamanaka a reason to scan us.
      1. Politely ask, if we are allowed, under what conditions the Yamanaka will scan us so that we might not necessitate that happening. Explain that we have clan reasons for not wanting our brains perused by a new ally.
  3. Learn as much as we can about the following topics
Steps:
  1. Dispel
  2. Ask to be excused to our temporary quarters citing that we think Jiraiya should have as much time as he needs to mull over our previous declaration. As a Parthian shot, express our interest in some light reading as a way to relax and if there are any libraries our handlers could take us to when they are ready.
  3. Once we are situated and our handlers have been assigned to us, ask to visit the local library or local equivalent after we finish a tour of the places we are allowed to visit in Konoha and which ones we must stay away from.
    1. Politely but firmly insist that we want to wear veils or something similar to obscure our faces from prying eyes. We know it won't be enough to deter someone like a Hyuuga, but it might help in case there are any Mist spies in Leaf passively looking for their missing-nin.
    2. If there is no publicly available library, burn one favor (or haggle/guilt-trip by saying that we just gave Jiraiya the "sealcrafting innovation of the year") for a stash of books containing topics we desire to research.
      1. If we are not allowed to do that either, ask our handlers what we are allowed to do while we are in Konoha and spend the rest of the update getting to know them as they give us a tour of where we can and cannot go.
  4. At the local reading center, suggest to each member of the team to do the following:
    1. Everyone scans what is and is not available so that we have a list of what we can and cannot read about for the next update
      1. If one of the topics listed below is not available proceed to the next in line.
        1. If one character completes their assigned suggested reading, have them collect books for the other team members and then peruse topics that personally interest them or chat with the handlers as is appropriate in such an establishment: quietly.
      2. If we are asked why we want to go to a library, truthfully reply that we never had the chance to learn for the sake of learning before and that we are eager to complete our non-combat educations. Having the chance to relax and improve ourselves at the same time is a rare treat for people in our positions and we want to take full advantage of the opportunity. We won't be idle, but we won't be physically exerting ourselves for the first time in months: perfect.
      3. Maintain our disguises (w/e they are) as we read and keep them on until we are safe back at our designated accommodations.
    2. Hazou reads about engineering and natural laws with an emphasis on mathematics, physics, chakra laws, rationality (gotta go meta), and lastly abstract thinking.
      1. What is the "Inumura diffusion" and how can it help our education as well as our seal craft?
      2. Learning about buoyancy would help us if we ever want to make something lighter than air.
    3. Keiko researches law (particularly in relating to missing-nin as well as basic ninja protocol (if she gets snippy tell her to compare and contrast Mist methods with Leaf's since we need to fix any potential culture gap issues immediately)), economics/logistics (i.e. the basics of trade, how merchants operate, prices of goods, etc.), and international history plus politics
      1. Basically, suggest to her that we don't ever want to have a mistake like we had in Hot Springs again where we didn't realize that ninjas from two different countries would work together to maintain the security of a DMZ.
      2. If we have time, ask her to look into laws related to re-instating missing-nin or the process by which a village can (for lack of a better word) adopt missing-nin into a village so that hunter-nin won't bother us anymore.
        1. Are there any cases where this has happened before? How did they do it if it happened?
    4. Noburi studies up on his medical knowledge by reading about physiology, how chakra works in the human body, and biology in general.
      1. While he looks for his books, suggest to him that he should try to ingratiate himself with our Leaf minders to get to know them better.
        1. Even if he fails his rolls it's not like they are going to murder him for putting his foot in his mouth.
      2. If he has time he can also look into chemistry and then persuasion.
    5. Mari does as she pleases as per usual, but discretely suggest she look into psychology/counseling if she is serious about helping Keiko with her problems.
    6. Kagome, if he can be persuaded to do so (and our handlers allow it), should look into works by sealing masters just to see what he may have missed out on in his years of isolation. If he does not have access to anything worthwhile to him, have him look into survivalist literature or forensics so that he can improve the team's overall stealth.
      1. Challenge him to see if he can spot any flaws in the published works and remind him that one day, again if he so desires, he may have his works published in an establishment just like this alongside the greats of sealing.
    7. Hazou asks permission to pick up some reading material for Akane too, consisting of more engineering materials as well as mechanics/machinery, trap-making, inventing and the latest no-chakra-involved inventions in Konoha, and some light reading like canon's "Tales of a Gutsy Ninja".
      1. Also drop off a get well soon card in the cover of one of the books, telling her that we will not abandon her and wish for her speedy recovery. No matter what happens or what she chooses she will always be a valued member of our team.
  5. At night, have Hazou ask Noburi what he needs to make a new barrel so we can plan for it later. (At the moment, I'd rather not have Noburi wandering around un-henged with a barrel strapped to himself while we tour Leaf, but I also do not want him to be a liability if we get attacked for some reason.)
Timetable:
  1. This should only take a few days with a hard limit of a week at most.
    1. If we are denied any chance to read some books, end the update after one day of meeting and greeting our handlers plus whoever/wherever they allow us to visit.
Contingencies:
  1. If Hiruzen wants to talk with us further have Mari take lead.
    1. If he wants to talk to Hazou, pause the update so we can collect our thoughts before we talk to the God of Shinobi.

So, did I miss any subjects? Suggestions?

I feel as though we should devote an entire update just to enriching our team's overall education. Meeting various canon characters can wait until after we establish a rapport of not causing trouble by doing nothing more than sitting quietly and reading in a library. All of the topics I listed I believe will benefit the team in the medium to long term once we have our freedom back: Hazou's regime will give him plausible sources for all of the hivemind's crazy projects, Keiko's will allow her to act as our legal expert as well as a business executive, Noburi can learn more about his specialty as a medic even though he has no barrel at the moment, Mari's will allow her to help out as team counselor more, and Kagome's lets him improve his craft of choice or at least satiate his paranoia.

Would add making sure to mention that scanning some of us may be hazardous to the Yamanaka's health in ways totally outside our control.

Added in the underlined bit:

    1. "It could also negatively affect your health, so... yeah... fair warning 'n all that."

I am in the same boat. Who lives in the perfect climate zone known as California anyway?

*raises hand*

For a few more weeks, anyway.

Okay, we need to invent the "locked in altitude, mobile in longitude/latitude" seal.

Locked in altitude, or distance from the center of the earth?

Oh, and to adress confusion about A/B Activation Relay Seals (Henceforth referred to as ARS) earlier in the thread: We can't activate seals with our feet. The QMs said you need to touch a seal with your hands to activate it. The ARS is designed to get around that limitation. It does that by connecting the seal you want to activate, but don't want near your hands, to the A seal, and then you touch the B seal with your hands to activate it, which then activates the seal connected to the A seal. Think of it as a seal that activates other seals remotely.

That sounds like a Lesser Barrier Formation seal (aka 'tripwire seal', although the 'wire' is actually an invisible beam of chakra), which the exception that the relevant seals can move in relation to one another.

Like I mentioned upthread, it was a very early Kagome scene, still in the woods, possibly within the first two or three times we ever saw him.
This one?:
Wouldn't you like it if kids were studying your theories a hundred years from now? You could be on the shelf next to Nishimura and Kita...but not if you don't pass on your knowledge."

The eyes got very slightly calmer and the knife pressed a little less tightly.

"Nishimura and Kita, huh?" the man murmured. "Hm. 'Pay attention, class: now that you've finished Kita, we'll be moving on to Kagome.'" The knife loosened a bit more and the man mumbled to himself for half a minute. "Yeah. Yeah. 'Hamasaki-sensei, may I please be allowed to check out Kagome, volume VII?' 'No! That's much too advanced for you, brat!' Yeah...." The knife fell away completely—less because Kagome (if that was his name) was taking it away and more because he was lost in his thoughts and not paying attention to keeping the knife in place.

That's not at all what I'm trying to describe.

An LBF has two seals which are interchangable, both of which are capable of connecting to another seal, and which have a "tripwire" between them, activating their connected seals if an object physically moves through the tripwire.

An ARS, has two seals which are not interchangable, one of which (A) is capable of connecting to another seal, and the other of which (B) is capable of being activated on touch (the same way you would activate a storage seal). When B is activated, B sends a signal to A that tells it to activate the seal it is connected to.

Hazō wasn't tied up, and this fact was making him very uncomfortable.

Hazou, you should know how to deal with this. Inoue gave you and Keiko that lecture ages ago.

"Sorry, Sarutobi-sensei," Jiraiya said, looking up. "But this is the sealcrafting innovation of the year. There are so many possible applications which could really tip the balance of power…" he trailed off, looking back up at the team. The Hokage was now looking at them as well.

Shit ...

<insert @faflec here>

We just gave them a third dimension. We need to be better at 3d than they are. "The enemy's gate is down" isn't enough. I'm not sure the real world actually has solid notes we can crib for this.

Jiraiya, sir, you don't understand the six of us yet—and that includes Akane, because she will come back to us.

This was the one thing that annoyed the hell out of me. The team just spent a while chewing Jiraiya out for taking away Akane's agency and then Hazou decides he knows her mind better than she does.

Even if he's right and Akane wasn't anywhere near, that's a dick move.

"We're starting to understand why the world is the way it is. Politics. Military strategy. The need to seize and maintain an advantage, multiplied into an arms race where nothing matters except dealing more damage and taking less. And that arms race is killing humanity.

I loved the rest of the speech though. @Velorien, this was awesome.

This plan is trying to do a few things at once.
  1. Combine most of the major existing plans into something more modular that the QMs can pick and choose scenes from. Let them see the options and pick the ones they find interesting. I think a bit of serendipity here is probably a good thing.
  2. Give us a chance to discuss rewards and plans in (semi)private before any official interaction with Jiraiya. I don't want to do that before we talk with Akane and amongst ourselves.
  3. There's a lot of little improvements to the existing plans that I've added.
  4. Beat a dead horse.
[X] Action Plan : Tomato Nipples 2 - Nipple Harder1

@QMs: Any segment marked with an (N) should happen oNscreen. Any segment marked with an (F) should probably happen oFfscreen. Any segment marked with a (P) is oPtional, feel free to include any subset2 of them in any order, but if they do happen it should be onscreen. Any optional segments that do not appear onscreen should not happen at all. We might ask to do them in a later update.

Goals:
  1. Don't get killed
  2. Do what you can for Akane
  3. Get some basic sightseeing/information gathering done
  4. Don't piss off leaf
Plan:
  1. (N) Finishing up with Jiraiya
    1. Let him finish up asking any questions he might have of us.
    2. If he wants to talk about rewards, ask for a delay.
      1. We would like to discuss amongst ourselves and with Akane. We've been running on full blast since Sarubetsu.
    3. Ask for a few minor things in the meantime.
      1. A panic button of some sort (e.g. linked alarm seals with directional tracking, firework of particular color...)
      2. At least one minder who is willing to talk to us, play the tour guide, that sort of thing ...
      3. "Is there anything we can do to help you help Akane?"
      4. Can we get some pseudo-privacy to discuss amongst ourselves when Akane is around?
        1. We fully expect you'll have a Hyuuga lip-reading us or something, but we'd appreciate it if only your people are capable of eavesdropping on us and a minimal number of those people at that.
  2. (F) Disguises and Contingencies
    1. Never move in groups of less than two.
    2. Make sure we have our cover stories straight.
    3. Always wear a veil or some other face covering underneath the henge we use.
    4. More details are in the contingencies section of the plan, this is mostly just a reminder for the QMs.
  3. (N) Visit Akane in the Hospital
    1. Go visit her.
    2. Do what we can to make her comfortable and happy.
    3. Bring flowers/hugs/something she'll enjoy and be capable of enjoying.
    4. This first visit is for her, don't push decisions on her unless she asks.
    5. If she asks for information answer truthfully and completely.
    6. If she wants to talk about rewards/plans/etc.. move to the "Discuss Rewards" section of this plan.
  4. (F) Build a Barrel
    1. Nobby should get the items needed to build another barrel, hiding them in larger purchases of other good we need.
    2. He should fix his barrel ASAP, possibly staying behind with Kagome in the room to do so.
    3. See if he can't find a backpack or similar disguise for it. Nothing to change it's functionality, just some way to cover it up and hide what it is.
  5. (P) Visit the Library
    1. If there's no public library see if we can get our minders to get books we're interested in for us.
    2. Otherwise, everyone scans what is and is not available so that we have a list of what we can and cannot read about for the next update
      1. If one of the topics listed below is not available proceed to the next in line.
        1. If one character completes their assignedsuggested reading, have them collect books for the other team members and then peruse topics that personally interest them or chat with the handlers as is appropriate in such an establishment: quietly.
      2. If we are asked why we want to go to a library, truthfully reply that we never had the chance to learn for the sake of learning before and that we are eager to complete our non-combat educations. 2. Learning about buoyancy would help us if we ever want to make something lighter than air.
        3. Look up histories of sealing, particularly things that mention what sealing is capable of and other low hanging seal crafting exercises.

  6. (P) Meet the Minders (aka: Regulatory Capture for Fun and Profit)
    1. Be nice to them.
    2. Do what you can to make their job easier without compromising our security.
    3. Treat them to some food and have a chat about their lives.
    4. Use them for social practice.
      1. Keiko should try to build bridges and become more diplomatic.
      2. Hazou should try to act awed and captured by the mystique of Konoha. He should try to project the aura of someone who is falling in love with the place despite not wanting to. Some subtle deception as to his real views.
    5. If they're amenable have a friendly spar with them.
      1. Handicap: only academy jutsu and taijutsu, no chakra boosting.
      2. No roki for Hazou.
      3. No sparring for Nobby until he fixes his barrel.
    6. Kagome shouldn't spar, or see the sparring unless Inoue's on hand to help keep him calm.
  7. (P) Sightseeing/Shenanigans
    1. Hazou is craving ramen. (The hivemind wills it)
      1. Those hole in the places/tiny pop-up stands are the best.
    2. Take a tour of the historical sights, see what stories Konona like to tell about itself to itself.
      1. War Memorial
        1. If we have a tour guide/minder, ask them about it.
      2. Hokage Monument
        1. If we have a tour guide/minder, ask them about why the monument was created? what should we know about each Hokage.
    3. There are hot springs, I'm sure we could all use a relaxing soak.
      1. Everyone should probably take an extra towel to whip any peeping toms.
      2. Inoue is free to use genjutsu if she wants.
    4. Take a look a weapons shops.
      1. Keiko could use something exotic as a gift to Panchipaama?
      2. Our standard kit could probably use a sharpen and polish.
    5. Talk to civilians and low level ninja
      1. Learn about Konoha, its people, and the relationship between ninjas and civilians
  8. (P) Hazou's Feelings :(
    1. Use clear communication no jutsu.
    2. "Keiko, Inoue, I'm trying to be helpful and yes that means stating the obvious sometimes. It's not meant to imply that you haven't thought of these things, just that I think it's important."
    3. "I would appreciate if you stop being snippy just because I mention some step that you think is blindingly obvious."
    4. "Mind you, correcting my mistakes, and overruling me when you think I'm wrong is important and neccesary. I just feel hurt by the personal jabs you make when I am trying to use a mode of communication that requires trust and mutual goodwill."
    5. "Also the Mr.MEW thing is old. It stopped being funny ages ago."
  9. (P) A New Team Talky?
    1. We should talk to Nobby and Keiko about swapping the main diplomancer in our team.
    2. Talk to Nobby first
      1. Social skill are difficult and Nobby is already pursuing two other difficult subjects. (Medicine, Water Jutsu)
      2. Keiko needs to get better at Diplomacy anyway in order to work effectively with the pangolin.
      3. If he gets a mist producing jutsu he'll be amazing for a stealth/ambush role in the team.
        1. "I am not blinded by the fog of war, Hazou. I am the fog of war. A team mysteriously vanishes in the forest, and you think that of me? No, I am the one who makes them vanish!"
      4. Having our medic be the most obvious first target in a fight seems like a bad idea.
    3. If he doesn't agree, listen to his ideas and table it for the hivemind to process. It is his decision after all, we can try to convince him, but we will not force him to stop.
    4. If he does agree, work with him to figure out how to ask Keiko if she's willing to switch her focus.
      1. It sucks for the moment, but it'll synergize really well with her pangolins.
      2. Some of her best friends are giant insectivore armored tanks. Even when she's not talking to the pangolins directly better social skills will allow her to capitalize on the fear and respect that inspires.
      3. Her bloodline is pretty kickass, but social skills are its big failure mode. If she can get good at diplomacy she can start using them together to be even better at analysis.
        1. She might be able to go full psychohistory in the future.
      4. We've got her back and know she can do this if she wants to.
    5. Talk to Keiko along with Nobby and use the plan we cooked up together.
  10. (P) Discuss Rewards Amongst Ourselves
    1. Only discuss rewards in an environment with a reasonable expectation of privacy from everyone other than the minders Jiraiya directly chooses.
      1. If Akane asks and we have no expectation of privacy, tell her that and delay for later.
      2. If Inoue has a genjutsu for this sort of thing, it'd be awesome.
      3. Keiko should try to set up a tiny, weak wind wall that makes white noise by ruffling paper/sheets.
    2. Possible Rewards Options
      1. Medical Training for Nobby
        1. Jiraiya already gave us a contact in Iron for this.
        2. His wording didn't promise anything additional, but it's something that increases our value to him and should be pretty trivial for him to offer us here and now.
        3. Probably worth asking, might not be worth spending a reward on.
        4. Possible Dialogue Option: "Look Jiraiya, Do you want us to die? How many other Missing Nins do you have that actually understand what you're trying to do and want to help?"
      2. Information on Our Families in Mist
        1. Hazou wants to know about his mom, and what's happened to her.
        2. If we're asking him for information he already has, it's probably worth asking but not spending a reward on.
        3. If we're asking him to gather information then it's probably something that will need to one of our rewards.
      3. Fire Border Access
        1. I don't know what this entails anymore if Akane stays with us. Probably comes with the package to a limited extent, we should ask about that before using a reward on that.
        2. If Akane chooses to stay with leaf then this may be worth spending a reward on. We should be clear exactly what right any such agreement entails.
        3. If Akane chooses to stay but we don't ask for this, we should still ask Jiraiya to pass letters between her and us via summons. This under the assumption that he will read and censor them as he sees fit. We're probably going to use the summons for slow secure communications with Jiraiya anyway, this should be little to no skin off his back.
      4. Mechanical Aptitude Specification for Akane
        1. Get books and a tutor for her while she's in the hospital.
        2. Possible basic training in smithing, glassmaking, woodworking, and the basic crafting arts.
      5. New sealcraft for Hazou and Kagome.
        1. We showed you something that's going to change the tactical landscape for years to come. We'd appreciate something similar in return.
        2. Priority on getting Kagome new seals.
        3. Hazou specific sealcraft requests:
          1. Deep approach
            1. Heavy specialization
            2. Everything Jiraya has on storage scrolls
          2. Wide approach
            1. Low-to-med utility stuff
            2. Examples in order of priority
              1. Communication devices
              2. Advanced alarm seals
              3. SCBA
              4. Night vision
              5. Eye/ear protection
              6. Sound muffling seals
        1. Mist Generation Jutsu for Nobby and Mari
        2. Earth Jutsu for Hazou
          1. Didn't you agree to this last time?
          2. Hazou has room for two 10 dice jutsu, we need something good and rare
          3. Tunneling jutsu
            • Personal combat tunneling
            • Tunnel building for out of combat
          4. Sensory jutsu
          5. Taijutsu booster

Contingencies:
  1. Other things Jiraiya might ask us and their answers
    1. "Great, the world is falling apart. What are you going to do about it?"
      1. TODO: How much of our plans and ideas do we tell him?
        1. "It could also negatively affect your health, so... yeah... fair warning 'n all that."
  3. Safety and Security Rules
    1. Politely but firmly insist that we want to wear veils or something similar to obscure our faces from prying eyes. We know it won't be enough to deter someone like a Hyuuga, but it might help in case there are any Mist spies in Leaf passively looking for their missing-nin
    2. Never be in a group of less than two.
    3. Keep a watch in our rooms even at night.
    4. Make sure we all have some PMYF kunai on our persons. They're one of our few movement trump cards, especially in an area with lots of buildings that we can use for kawarimi at an angle.
    5. Make sure we all have whatever the local equivalent of white flags are.
  4. Interacting with our minders
    1. Be polite and courteous
    2. Do what we can to make their jobs easier.
    3. Try to stay in public areas with a reasonable number of civilians and other ninja.
  5. Combat contingencies
    1. White tactics only .
    2. Use any panic buttons Jiraiya has given us.
    3. Use PMYF to move fast and run the fuck away.
    4. Try to leave the city or converge on Jiraiya's office to turn ourselves in. If trying to turn ourselves in, make sure we're waving our white flags.

[1]: The name has nothing to do with the plan, I just really wanted to make that joke.

[2]: The includes the empty set and the set of all the options.
