An attempt to bring back an old niche RPG series as an MMO, the project really shouldn't have gotten as much attention as it did. But, with the inclusion of Kayaba Akihiko, players without the slightest interest in the old franchise found themselves drawn to what promised to be 'the most immersive game of all time'. The promotional material was full of urban fantasy stereotypes: myths coming to life in the modern day, contemporary mages fighting against and alongside swordsmen, sharpshooters, and monsters.
Still, by all accounts the game is amazing, even before considering that it was the first release to truly utilize the Fulldive technology of the Nervegear, and you are one of the lucky 25,000 to get in on day one:

On advice from the bad person that told me to just start the thread less than a day hour after the idea popped into my caffeine and alcohol addled mind, I haven't thought about it. I'm just gonna wing it as it comes up.
