Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Whoa... okay. What happened while I was out?

First of all, which picture was decided on for the demon? I personally prefer the second.

Secondly... last I checked, Germany is a member of the UN.
Why do you single it out?

As for the debate about swording versus stealthing...
Let me give you some math.

Our sword has 2 ApT, which allows us to hit things two times at most before they can start hitting us.
We have a Base Damage of 17.
Our Magic Modifier is 25.

Barely competent gives us -50%.
Now the question is "on what".

I believe that the only thing our incompetency does cut is the Base Damage, seeing that skill should not factor into how much our magic helps out the strike.
So... 17 * 0.5 = 7.5
Which means we lose 9 to 10 damage right now, lowering the damage on hit from 18-42 to 8-33 based on how well the modifier roll goes.
That would still be enough to gravely injure a human being... and anything non-human would probably flatten us before we did much damage either way.

Additionally, we are more of a spellcaster right now. Thermal Spear does 2*75 + 2d10 [152 - 170] damage and applies either freeze or burn as debuffs; if we use the other action to relocate, we can basically kite our enemies around.
If something dangerous comes close, we have Ignition Aura to do damage on close range and give more stacks of Burn.

With all of that in mind, there is no real reason to start on sword as early as now. We can afford to wait a few more days, until we can ask for someone to teach us.

However, developing a reliable means of not being a shining beacon of "Magic here" as early as possible might save us a lot of trouble down the line because we can actually be able to avoid the attention of at least some amount of enemies.

Also, while I am at it... maybe we should use the EXP we have to buy a level in Thermal Spear? It is still lv1 and raising its damage is probably the best/cheapest thing we can do right now for a reliable means of attack.

(75 * 1.2 = 90; Double Cast: 90 * 2 = 180; MM= 10+10 = 20
->Damage goes from 152-170 to 182-220)

Not sure, what does the rest think?
Neither picture was chosen yet, but I prefer the second one as well.

Who... Does Gaia ship us with?

Well... most likely every non-related female roughly our age whom we know or who is within a kilometre of us. Bonus points if she is a magic user, more bonus points if she is also a Magical Girl.

I'll give you guys a hint, considering the amount of "Friendship" that goes on in most MG shows, combine that with the knowledge that said shows may or may not have been created as a way to catch Gaia's eye...

Now, time to sleep. It's only just going 8 in the morning.

Most important part is they must meet Una's approval first.
The children must approve of the marriage!

By the way, does anyone have a good idea what to write an Omake about?

I thought I might write something about that time Morgan saw the birth of a dragon... but then I realised that would not make for much, especially because I know too little about her to guess.

It is really hard to get anything good done with as little data as we have...
Hm... although... I just wrote about 3k words of gut punches for my own Quest, so maybe I can cobble something together...

Cerys raising Una! Bring on the Feelz Flail!

Canon Omake: Sleep, Little Child
Here we go; short and bitter.

Omake: Sleep, Little Child

She did not understand.

The arms holding her tightly were so warm, warmth flooding everywhere where she was nestled into the embrace... and Una desperately clung to the sleeping form. It was all she could do to give something back... after her big sister always made sure everything was okay.

But it was not okay... and Una knew. She heard the shouting and how things were smashed and... and... and she knew Cerys was shaking when she thought the younger girl was not looking.

Cerys always did her best to make sure she was happy... she made her food, taught her things and played with her... Cerys was good.
So why was everything so unfair for her? Why was she hurt when she was so nice and always helped Una? She did not get it.

Una was hurt, too... but she knew Cerys always tried to make it so he did not hurt her, even when she got hurt more...

All Una could do to show her sister how much she loved her was to cling to her and hug her and try to warm her a bit... Cerys was still shaking, even in her sleep...

It was not fair... but Una could do nothing to help her big sister... only try to not make it more bad.
All she could do now was hug her big sister and sleep... and hope she would not get hurt tomorrow.

The Big Sister (Cerys) who cares for the Little Sister (Una), as mother and daughter, has been in the role of protector of her for years, and has a cynical view of the world because of everything it has done to her and has large amount of trust issues, and in the face of the first disaster she faced, refused to trust the military. A magical girl whose bulk of their powers and initial skill set focuses on offense.

The Little Sister ( Daiyu Feng) who cares for the Big Sister (???), as siblings, just now stepping into the role of protector for her, who isn't cynical despite the world, but still now can no longer look to the sky for the sake of her sister, and despite the civil war going on, trusted in soldiers and jumped upon the fishing trawler filled with them. A magical girl whose initial skill set focus on defense.

By the way, does anyone have a good idea what to write an Omake about?

Cerys the day she accepted pay to hide a body.

Cerys completing any number of her "jobs". Close calls, evading securities, perhaps a series of such omakes starting from small stuff and ending with the above "hide a body" showing how she goes deeper and deeper into the underworld for the sake of her sister.

Specific scenes of Cerys and Una's backstory. Times when Cerys tried to get help, she tried to reach out, but failed. The first time she had gone to another persons house, in detail. Small moments at their home, with Una's purity and adorableness towards Cerys even in the dark of the terrible things happening to them. Being Cerys light in the darkness. To act as forge and explanation for Cerys down right obsession to protecting Una over herself. The panic and rush she got from stabbing her father and the panic as she runs away with Una and realizes that she doesn't really know how to live on the street, how she might just be condemning Una to a slow death by taking her into Cerys unworthy hands when there is no guarrentee of providing for her.

I have one other thought for an omake (actually in a somewhat similar vein to your blurb above) but it is one that I've been contemplating for a little over a week now, and will probably get to writing at some point, when I can manage more than opening an open office document and staring at a blank page :V

Hm... that might work, but I doubt I could actually portray this kind of abuse properly.
And in this particular instance, I would only want to tread incredibly carefully due to the topic... sorry.

Maybe someone else can work with those ideas, though.

As for the lines about her jobs... hm, that might be an idea. The problem is that I have too little knowledge about such things and would probably mess up something fierce.

Having such a high demand for quality does have its downsides...

Because I am a terrible person? I thought you realised this after our recent exchange of PMs :V
I literally just get out of bed (really late) and think "Oh boy, I wonder what's happened in the thread while I was alseep!"

Winner is

Going to make some Tea then will start writing.

You try your best to just stay there and relax, but after a hour you start noticing little streamers of your magic, which reminds you of your problem with hiding it. Should probably deal with that as soon as possible. "Morgan, do you mind helping me outside for a while?" You move your eyes over to the couple, you don't really want to have this conversation near them despite Morgan's claims that it will go unheard.

She follows your eyes and sighs, but nods understandingly. "Of course."

The three of you make your way outside and move to sit by a log table a little ways from the building proper. At least it isn't a fallen tree this time. You rectify that thought when you take a better look at the bench. Fallen. Tree. For a moment you contemplate asking Morgan if there was some sort of curse that made you run into fallen trees everywhere you go, but you dismiss it. Even Magic can't be that silly, right? When you were all seated, though Una had chosen the table as her seat, you look to Morgan. "Can you show me the best way to make a method of hiding my magic?"

She blinks for a moment, opening her mouth, pausing then closing it. She is silent for a solid minute as she thinks about her answer. "No? I don't think I can." She looks a little embarrassed. "When it comes to hiding magic, I have no idea how to teach someone else how to do it. The best description of how I do it for mine would be 'Calm the pond then spread it flat.' Which... doesn't make much sense when you think about water or magic."

You sit back and think for a minute, absentmindedly leaning back in your seat. "Do you mind if you could just be here to tell me how well I'm hiding my magic then? I'm going to try something."

She nods but opens her mouth. "That's fine, just if I tell you to stop-- stop. I don't want you flaring magic around wildly, even if I doubt there is much around here to notice, you never know."

You nod back and turn your focus to your magic, quietly humming away at the back of your mind. It was no calmer than it was before, in fact, it seemed to be stronger that it had been before. Yeah, I really need to get this under control now. You continue with the idea you'd had before, trying to conceal your magic in the ambient heat that was everywhere.

(Cerys: 61 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 71)

The act of trying to not hide but merge your magic with the natural world in such a way was intensely difficult. You could feel it working, but then your control would slip and you'd need to compress your magic again to keep it from leaking. You let out a deep sigh as you restart the process for merging your magic again.

(Cerys: 6 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 16)

Ok, not like that then. Morgan looks at your sharply as she feels the tiniest of magic slip from your grip.

(Cerys: 23 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 33)

Getting there. This time you manage to keep control over it without losing any.

(Cerys: 73 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 83)

Maybe I need to think about this differently? This was the hardest thing you'd ever attempted, everything else had come fairly easily, but this was frustrating you at every turn, even though you could tell you were making progress. It still felt practically glacial compared to your earlier experiments pace. You decide to take a break and eat dinner before trying again, maybe some food in your belly would help you focus.

Your meal was small, you ordered some bread and ketchup, then pulled out the deer meat you had, a quick re-heat later and you were all enjoying a first class meal. Still, when you had reheated the meat, it had gotten you thinking about how you were trying to hide your magic. At the moment you were trying to push your magic underneath the... layer? of heat in the world. Seeing as that was constantly frustrating you, perhaps a different approach was needed.

Full belly and ideas refreshed, you made your way back to your seats outside, Una prodding Morgan about what the different places she's travel to are like in the background.

(Cerys: 28 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 38)

Wait, not like that, maybe like this?

(Cerys: 8 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 18)

Nope-- not like that at all.

(Cerys: 40 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 50)

What if I try
this. Your magic spreads out evenly, Morgan doesn't make a twitch. Ok, next, hiding.

(Cerys: 18 + 5 Control + 5 ??? = 28)

Mmm, no, what if I just... let it go?

(Cerys: 87 + 5 Control + 10 ??? = 102!)

You decide to take a risk this time, you spread your magic out evenly then you just let it go

For a heart stopping moment, you can feel your magic roaring and surging, raging with all the force you've ever felt. Then, something clicks into place and for the first time, it's calm. Not by any effort from you, or you beating it into submission, it just sits there waiting. When you take a breath, you feel it surge, a silent shifting of something. You let out a breath and you feel it calm, the world moving with you.

When you open your eyes when had I closed them you see Morgan looking at you strangely, her eyes looking more through you than at you.

"I-- what?" She shakes her head and focuses back on you. "I guess that means that you've done it then? I can't feel your magic any more." It looks like she has something else she wants to say, but you see her looking around at nothing and she clamps her mouth shut. You nod, feeling more right than you had since before you got your magic. I guess suppressing it like that was a really bad idea. I never noticed how... confined it felt.

"Yes, I stopped suppressing it and merged? No that's not the right word. I did something but it's hidden now." Morgan makes a tight face as she looks at you, eyes still darting around but she doesn't say anything, instead she just nods at the sky where the sun is getting low. "I'm not going to sleep tonight, to make sure nothing goes wrong. Sort out anything you want to do before we leave now, you've got eight hours or so, the nights are fast this far north."

Plan...

...
1. we accidently our clothing.
2. whatever we did with out magic simply swamped the area were in with our power and she cant pick us our from the background increased magic.
3. we lost our magic.
4. a combination of the above.

[X] "Two quick questions, since I have no clue why you're nervous about what I just did. I didn't lose my clothes doing that, right? Second, whatever I did do, is it going to end up being dangerous and/or lead someone to us?"

Okay, that was interesting. Apparently, we kept our magic down the wrong way for this whole time.
Good thing we actually managed those rolls about controlling it in the beginning...

Also, stealing that part from SAB and adding my own stuff.

[X] "Two quick questions, since I have no clue why you're nervous about what I just did. I didn't lose my clothes doing that, right? Second, whatever I did do, is it going to end up being dangerous and/or lead someone to us?"

[X] Sit with Morgan for a little longer; no more questions, just some quality time between... friends? Maybe so, it has been a while since you even had the chance to talk to someone else like this

[X] Go to sleep with Una

You chose possibly the hardest but most interesting method of hiding your magic you possibly could have.
Which is why it took an entire day and many, many rolls to pass.

[x] Sinarblood

I don't think we did anything wrong. The description of both methods look fairly similar:
'Calm the pond then spread it flat.'

You decide to take a risk this time, you spread your magic out evenly then you just let it go

"Yes, I stopped suppressing it and merged? No that's not the right word. I did something but it's hidden now."
My bet is that we told Gaia the magical equivalent of "Hold my beer for a moment".

1. Morgan would not keep silent about us accidently our clothing, and what you wear counts as a part of you when using magic, so no burning cloths without burning anything else, and we still have a gun on us, so rather than burned clothing, we'd have cooked off the ammo in the gun… and that really wouldn't have been fun and would have been very sharply noticed for us :V.

2. No the last roll was 102, it isn't going to make our stated goal of hiding our magic worse. I suspect it is the opposite, we had probably saturated the air in our attempts to hide our magic prior and now she is reeling from having it all suddenly disappear on her. Also she said she can't feel our magic any more not that she feels our magic but can't sense us :V.

3 Again a 102 roll wouldn't end in accidently losing access to our magical powers also:

When you take a breath, you feel it surge, a silent shifting of something. You let out a breath and you feel it calm, the world moving with you.
was after that last attempt to hide our magic, meaning the magic was still responding to us, or rather was responding to us more naturally than it had before.

4. None of the above :V

Also as to the vote why ask if she was nervous for two specific reasons instead of just asking why she seemed out of sorts when we managed it :V

[X] Is something the matter with how I hid my magic? It seemed like you wanted to say something?

Of course trying to bring up what she has decided to not talk about is risky though. That said since it is about our magic, it would be nice to know.

[X] Sit with Morgan for a little longer; no more questions, just some quality time between... friends? Maybe so, it has been a while since you even had the chance to talk to someone else like this

[X] Go to sleep with Una

I actually suspect that finally not suppressing our magic revealed something about it that was hidden before for an instance before our magic suddenly clicked into place and became completely hidden from her senses.

She isn't mentioning anything because it was for so short a time that she isn't sure about it.

You chose possibly the hardest but most interesting method of hiding your magic you possibly could have.
Which is why it took an entire day and many, many rolls to pass.

Glad we took such an interesting route :V.
