Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Kinda funny how both the Triumvirate and the TSAB are both afraid of Taylor's "source" of power for the same reason, even if the specifics are wrong.

I feel they're dismissing Eidolon a little too quickly, but their reactions are interesting.

If I remember correctly, the shard that gave him his powers was the same one that created the other time capes in the series (Cody included).

Nah, all we know is Cody got Vestige. There's no information on what vials the others took. (Also, Alabaster is confirmed not to be a vial cape. And while I'm being a pedant, Queen of Swords' time control?)

Alright, I believe that I've got an idea for how Tim can progress. I suggest that we save up his tech points until we can afford Off-site Production. Then we buy that, and at least one other skill. If Tim's tech trees are similar to our skill trees, then there's a decent chance that we're already almost finished with the energy production tree. If so, then once we buy Off-site Production, we'll be able to produce a generator that can make provide the power necessary for template construction. Depending on if that will reduce the time needed for Immortal Assimilation Engine to produce new parts needed for templates, we may very well be able to churn out templates fairly quickly.

Nice to see someone else trying to min/max Tim, heh.

And while your plan has some merit, it's unlikely you'll get consensus on it. You might be better served by writing an omake or three to lower Off-Site Production's tech point cost. And I personally see Mechanical Intuition as far too important to wait that long on; speaking of which...

@Silently Watches, how many Tinkers are local to the Privateer's new city (can't remember what city it was atm), and of those how many are Heroes/Villains? Even better would be the basics of their specialties. I might be able to whip up an omake or two for some Mechanical Intuition Inspiration...

You know, we might actually be able to use the Triumvirate's new willingness to look into magic.

Think about it, if we can manage to scan Eidolon, and if he does have a Linker Core, even if he doesn't accept a template we could leverage that information into getting more supplies sent our way.

After all, if we manage to reassure the Triumvirate that our intentions are heroic, and that we're the ones controlling who gets Devices, then I can see them being willing to work together with the Privateers on a few things.

We have no idea what the Queen of Swords' power is, so I made one up.

There aren't many. The Winter Hill gang has Angel Dust, the drug Tinker already mentioned, and the Warlocks have one as well. There is an independent Tinker her— Oh, wait, never mind. Just the two of them.

Just so you know, if you want to spend a Hanging Out vote to do something like this, you'll need to give a good IC rationale for why Taylor would think to do so. Otherwise I'll refuse it.
You mean including Clockblocker and Phir Se?
No, I wasn't thinking about them. I meant Gray Boy, Alabaster, and Cody. Give me a second to change that line.

So a Chemical Tinker (I really can't think of anything Tim would be able to do with that... Not familiar enough with Nanoha), Someone in the Warlocks, and what I'm guessing by your...wording... is an independent who's passing themselves off as a Tinker, but isn't really one.

So.... Who are the Warlock's again? And any info at all about their Tinker's specialty (or at least some of the type of stuff they build, if not their specialty itself)?

"I'm afraid I just wasn't prepared for someone to hack into my computer through our very expensive and complex firewall just to throw a video stream up."

So looking at this, it does seem to be the key factor. I don't see how the recording in itself would have necessarily caused this panic, the magic seems to be almost an afterthought (I'm a bit lost on how experimental TInkers and Magic are meant to connect, do they think the Tinkers found a new energy field? Taylor's powers rely on benefactor, but she's also the source?) . But the fact that the vote was interpreted as "Hack into the PRT regional directors computers" and not "send him a damn email" made them suspect an additional TInker to the mix and reminded them of their fear on how powerful she is. Not sure how much its an issue itself and not just the last straw, since most of their concerns were about her shown powers and not anything related to the recorded scene, but still.

That makes it seem like we want to be a lot more detailed in any write-in votes >_> to avoid that sort of misinterpretaion (Though I thought you said you weren't going the we-hacked, he panicked route?)

Recording software was cheap and convenient. She should know; she had installed just such a program on her computer after a few issues with other people's faulty memories and subsequent miscommunications.

A person after my own heart <3 <3 I was so hopeful for Google Glass, the idea of being able to record and review all my interactions to cite later is basically a dream. Eclipse Phase muse's when?

"The same thing Epoch was rambling on about. Magic."

My initial thought reading this "Oh good, the extra evidence provided finally convinced him of this...."

"That's all well and good, but what did you mean by magic might be what this Tinker group is after?" demanded Eidolon.
"I find it hard to believe Calamity Witch's powers and Epoch's 'magic' are unrelated. What if these Tinkers are trying to tap into that power, whatever it is? Calamity Witch might have this same capability Epoch does, and they want to adapt their tech to run off of it."

Flat What. This was actually fun to read in that 'sudden amused bewilderment moment' kind of way. I think Legend could do with reading a bit of Carl Sagan The Demon-Haunted World - Wikipedia as this is pretty much the issue they're facing. Purely a commentary on the characters shown, not the writer, but when the theory has to keep adding additional factors and explanations thats when you start needing to reconsider it from the ground up.

"No." Legend and Eidolon both whipped their heads around to look at her in surprise and anxiety, almost as if her reaction had scared them. Her voice hadn't been that hard, had it? "We will not force her to tell us anything, and we certainly will not start hounding her like a criminal because she has information we want."

Surprised me a bit, but maybe I don't understand the characters mindset. She protested the idea from a moral standpoint about forcing her, and not from the threat point of "Lets not make ourselves an enemy to someone who matches Eidolon at his height for versatile power" ? Interesting to note, as it informs about the characters decisionmaking as well as their current assessment of their power relative to others.

At his prime, he could have fought her, but not now, not with his powers failing faster and faster. That was with only one of her. Once these Tinkers started full-scale production, they would multiply faster than the Protectorate.

Oh. Uhh....thats a bit nervously close to the truth, in a way. So uhh, we probably want a plan for Tim's powers if we're ever letting him out of his nice TInker Cave? >_> *panic ensues*

Panic as in Legend comes tearing after us.

No need to panic, and no need to do much about his power story either.
Tinker powers can be ultra-specific or super-broad.
'Modularity', 'explosives', 'miniaturization', 'steam-powered', 'vehicles', 'biology', you get the idea.
As for making more Templates, all that's going to confirm is our 'seat at the table', so to speak.
We're starting to reach the position where the Protectorate and Guild can't do much about us.
Not without full-scale war, and a war they're not likley to win.

It occurs to me that with the rest of cauldron gone that Taylor (and by extension Samantha) are the only ones on Earth-bet capable of inter dimensional travel now. They would have a really hard time forcing to her really do anything that she didnt want to.

Given Scion's death scatted all the shards the Entities normally hold on to control and contain the cycle, there's probably a parahuman or three that can do dimension-hopping.

Not even a hint on the type of stuff the Tinker with the Warlocks can do? Or even a mention on if they're heroes or villains?:(

Tinker in a Biker gang, I can work with that.

Doesn't matter what they're specialty is, you can bet your life savings that a biker would find a way to leverage it to 'pimp their ride' (ANYONE who knows a biker will verify this, lol), and all I needed was something Tinker-enhanced that the Privateers might reasonably have a chance to come across. Was thinking something like a broken off piece of power armor, but a wrecked bike works too:D.

Tim's Tumultuous Tinkering with Tinker Tech: Part 1

Tim jumped in surprise as he door to his workshop was slammed open, and several of the privateers rushed in, looked around, and started clearing his workbench off, ignoring his indignant questions on what was going on.

As soon as they finished clearing off his workbench, they ran out again, leaving Tim looking at the door in confusion.

A minute later, they all rushed back in, but this time, they were all carrying a bunch of twisted pieces of metal that they all put to the side before running out again, without so much as a word on what was going on.

Tim had just started to inspect the pieces of metal, when they all came back in, but rather than rushed, they were all going rather slowly. As soon as the first one made it through the door, Tim saw why. They were carrying what looked like a totaled motorcycle between them.

After struggling for a minute or two, they finally got the bike situated on Tim's workbench, and 4 of the guys left, with a nod to Tim. One of them remained, and started looking over the bits they brought in first, and organizing them on the workbench around the bike's frame.

Sighing resignedly, Tim asked, "OK Paul, I'm guessing all this scrap are the pieces that broke off the bike when it crashed, but why are you guys bringing this in here?"

Paul, continuing to organize the pieces of wreckage around the frame, answered without looking up or slowing down in the slightest. "What? No one told you yet? The Warlocks just had a dust up with the Protectorate a few blocks away. It was a rather large fight, lots of gunfire."

Tim shrugged, he'd soundproofed his workshop pretty early on "OK, so I'm guessing this is one of the Warlock's bikes, but why'd you bring it in here?"

Paul grinned like Samantha before a good fight... or before roping Danny into some private time. "Oh, this isn't just one of the Warlock's bikes... This is their Tinker's bike!"

Tim opened his mouth to respond, then he processed what Paul had just said, and froze.

Paul, seeing the look on Tim's face, chuckled lightly, and smirked while continuing, "Yep, it got hit by a shot by some random PRT trooper, took out one of the wheels. The bike started to go out of control, and just before he wiped out, the seat blew off like an ejection seat outta an old spy movie, rocket boosters and all. Bike slammed into a building, and we managed to snag the bike before the PRT could recover it. We figured you're not a traditional Tinker, but you might be able to figure some stuff out from this."

Tim, still staring lankly at the pile of part surrounding a broken frame, slowly got a wide, almost manic looking, smile on his face, as a glint entered his eyes.

Paul was still talking, but Tim wouldn't be able to tell you what was said. Tim was FAR too focused on taking apart the pieces of the motorcycle's frame that hadn't broken apart from the crash.

The bike was surprisingly intact. Some quick inspection showed that if Tim repaired all the damaged fluid lines, and did a bit of bodywork for things like reattaching the handlebar and front tire, the bike should still run perfectly.

Tim smiled widely, and got to work. First step, fixing as much as he could, second step... SCIENCE!!!

Paul had long since left, noticing Tim in a world of his own, ignoring everything around him. His last comment, said with a chuckle as he left the room, "Well, I guess even magical Tinkers are still Tinkers."

Inspiration for Mechanical Intuition please!

I'll work on Part 2 either in an hour or two, or possibly tomorrow... I think I know where this is gonna go....

Never. do. this. Either stick to the script-fic format, or put the effort into proper dialog. That's frankly common sense, something you shouldn't need to be told.

Tim sighed. "OK Paul, I'm guessing all this scrap are the pieces that broke off the bike when it crashed, but why are you guys bringing this in here?"

Paul looked up from his partially organized pile of parts. "What? No one told you yet? The Warlocks just had a dust up with the Protectorate a few blocks away. It was a rather large fight, surprised you didn't hear the explosions."

Tim shrugged. He was basically in a basement of a brick building, but that wasn't important. "I get that this is one of the Warlock's bikes, but you still haven't said why you all brought it here?"

Paul grinned like Samantha before a good fight. "Oh, this isn't just any one of the Warlock's bikes... This is their Tinker's bike!"

Tim opened his mouth to respond, then he processed what Paul had just said, and froze.

Paul, seeing the look on Tim's face, chuckled lightly, and smirked. "Yep, it got hit by a shot from MM with some honking huge rifle. The guy looked like he was going to wipe out, but suddenly the guy shoots off it in an ejection seat. Had rockets, a parachute, and everything. Bike kept going until it hit a building of course, and we managed to snag it while the PRT was busy chasing the other guy. We figured you're not a traditional Tinker, but you might be able to figure some stuff out from this."
This is how you do it.
