I know, I'm kicking myself right now. I was hoping they would get the message that if they want this to die down somewhat, they should give us a win here and now. Because I will never stop voting for DLG so long as it keeps appearing as a possible option (and even beyond that if necessary).
landcollector said they were "on the verge" of giving us DLG, I tried to tip them over the edge in a non-confrontational way, and it backfired. C'est la vie. 🤷♂️Welp. Guess we are going to have another fucking round and drama about DLG next week actions voting.
@kamkong great work. Really great.
Of course even if we get DLG next round it'll be likely maximum damage control mode instead of getting whatever is in it.
I have zero interest in DLG, and even less appreciation for people trying to strongarm others to vote for it.
It wins, or looses, as the threat is interested in it or not.
"Let me have this or i will keep bringing it up" sounds lot like (stupidly pointless) threat, people vote for what they want, if you want people to vote for a thing, make a convincing argument."Strongarm" is a bit much, but it has been third place two out of the last three activity votes, IIRC, so the thread is clearly interested. I've been trying to convince people that it would be worthwhile to see, and it is something I feel is needed to close out the emotional elements that Taylor never dealt with. Several of the people fighting to keep it from winning have stated that they hate Danny being involved in Worm fics pretty much at all, with a second vocal group being convinced that the only possible scene we could get from it winning a vote is pure angst and drama. The latter has been directly, explicitly contradicted by SW, but that doesn't stop that view coming up over and over.
Added to that is the difficulty we get with social votes. People here are not good at coming up with write ins or with getting people to vote for said write ins. What I'd be most likely to vote for is to bring Maclibuin and Epoch into Arcana, should the extra slot win, with the 'participate in X as a social event' option taking a second slot, but what would we do with the third?

As for promises from SW, they are a decent writer, which is why i am following this quest, but after the "TSAB falls, Taylor dies" event, i am somewhat unwilling to trust them on things that have not already happened.
I don't mean they would intentionally lie, just thinking that interpreting what is going on might differ a bit.
When someones position is "I'm sick of Danny because he is boring", they probably are not open for debate on the issue.I've made extensive arguments on the issue. I don't consider my statement as "Let me have this or i will keep bringing it up," but, rather, as "I think we should vote for this and am not giving up on it." While the end result might look the same, the intent is quite different. I'd be happy to discuss specific ideas, but those I mentioned aren't. The 'nevar!Danny' people, which includes the 'I'm sick of Danny because he's boring" people rarely are willing to discuss the matter at all. The people insisting that the only possible way that DLG can go is angst and emo-osity likewise don't appear to be reading the threads, since they make the same argument over and over despite the number of times the author has told them otherwise.
I cannot debate with those who refuse to engage in the debate.
Trust, once lost, is hard to get back.SW making clear statements about upcoming arcs was born in large parts from the feeling that the consequences of that one vote was nowhere near clearly foreshadowed enough*. While SW won't give details to avoid spoiling them, and won't tell us what to vote for, s/he has addressed specific complaints and interpretations of what s/he is offering us. A clear and explicit comment direct from the author might as well have been in an update of the story itself, though with the caveat that the longer it has been since a thing was said, the more likely things are to have been changed, often as a direct result of our actions. The comments about the DLG plot thread were all done within this arc, so I consider them canon until we hit the AAR, and still likely to be true until DLG ceases to be available as a main activity vote.
*There is some foreshadowing in the previous three or four updates, as I recall, but it is only barely discernible even knowing how the setup played out.
What was this?
Pretty much exactly what it says.
Civil War 8.9 - 8.10
Worse.(not sure what we should have done to not die there, straight murder maybe?)
Eh, i probably would have a dropped it right then and there if it was a fic.Worse.
They fully expected us to go straight murder, so it wouldn't have helped.
Instead we should have acted in an unexpected manner so they started to doubt they're fighting brainwashed Bombardment mage.
We should have refused to fight even when they were shooting at us.
Or we should have fought in melee even when our powerset is designed for shooting.
Or we should have called Vista for assistance, because she's definitely not an IAE soldier.
But of course it would have been very OOC for us, we had no reason to do anything like this.
Honestly, I find it quite beautiful. Silently made two well-meaning factions who consider each other allies fight each other to death, and they made it feel natural and believable.
Both sides have valid reasons to fight.
Both sides are sensible and will back down if they have any suspicion they're mistaken.
But to give such a suspicion one side should act completely out of character, contrary to the situation as they see it.
And so they don't.
And so they fight to death.
And so one of them dies.
That would have been an excellent scene for a fic. Not for a quest, sadly.
When someones position is "I'm sick of Danny because he is boring", they probably are not open for debate on the issue.
But i seriously doubt badgering them about it is going to be any better.
I have little interest in Danny in general, even less so in this quest.
That said, i can think of exactly two stories where Danny has been interesting character, Taylor Varga and Constellations, and in only one of those he is someone i actually like.
So i would rather take this change to, i dunno, hang out with the various members of Arcana, instead of wasting screentime on something i am not interested in.
Pretty much exactly what it says.
TSAB operatives come in and kill Taylor (not sure what we should have done to not die there, straight murder maybe?), thread looses its shit, thing gets retconned.
Yes, all we needed to do was act wildly out of character in a way that would, in most similar situations, be highly dangerous to us and everyone around us, if not downright suicidal. What we needed to do was use any ability, at all, that was not part of the CW template, or choose to talk, thus revealing that we didn't speak Galean. Even having a GB/Familiar threw them a little, but the only previous incident they had for comparison was a ship with no animals on it, so not making GBs could have been a lack of materials issue, rather than a difference from IAE being damaged. Instead we went into the situation upset from Danny's condition and went Taylor Smash against a team chosen for the purpose of stopping IAE victims from taking over first Bet, then later Earths.
I assume you are joking, but if not, spite is as valid a reason to vote as any other.I am telling you all now that DLG is going to do nothing for closure and cause heartbreak and discontent. That said, some folks have to learn the hard way so.
[X] Daddy's Little Girl
I assume you are joking, but if not, spite is as valid a reason to vote as any other.
Joke's on you then, since I think it's hilarious. My own sense of spite over this vote would be satiated by seeing the DLG quest die in a ditch without ever being taken, but my sense of schadenfreude appreciates someone else's.Yes, I know you're joking, it's a terrible joke and no one's laughing except you.
