Magical Defender Planar Champions! (Magical Girls / 5e DnD)

The Museum of National History was not typically considered a liminal place. During the daytime, it was filled with both tourists and patriots. As one of the finest such institutions in the land, it reliably drew large crowds. One of the biggest draws was the sword Radiant Chooser. Once upon a time it was forged to fight off an incursion from Baator. In the days after Asmodeus was repelled, it became the badge of office for the Kings and Queens of the land, for Radiant Chooser would not allow one who did not love justice to wield it. Since the revolution, however, it has sat in the museum, rejecting all attempts to take it from it's plinth.

And so it sat this night, alone in the dark. Until, abruptly, it wasn't. It strobed angrily in response.

The red skinned intruder chuckled, "Why am I here? Why else would I be here? It is time."

And then three more beings appeared in the room around the plinth. The robed man spoke first, "Don't forget your part Asmodeus." He said, a chatter of tweets from the goldfinches around him emphasizing his words.

The red skinned man waves his hand dismissively, "Yes yes, command of the invasion will be given to one of my subordinates, I must offer to empower one of this world's defenders free of charge, and anything I happen to be told of my subordinates' plans must be conveyed to that defender. If she chooses to accept my offer."

The sword strobed again, this time in a huff.

<I already showed you the math>, interjected the small felinesque animal to the swords' left, <This is our best chance to fend off Baator once more.>

The woman laughed, branches swaying, "I think dear Radiant may have objections beyond mere effectiveness."

<I don't understand such concerns.> Was the reply.

The red skinned man clapped, "Well, we all have champions to make our offers to, and we should be off, yes?" He smirked, and disappeared.

Shortly, the sword and the robbed man with the birds were alone in the room.

"I'm also unhappy it came to this. None should have to bear the burden of fighting Baator so young." The man's voice was sorrowful. The Sword strobed comfort.

And then the Sword was once again alone on it's plinth.

It casts Telepathy. It has an offer to make.

I am running a magical girl game in the system and setting of 5e DnD. On this planet, the peace treaty that ended the last incursion from Baator ensures that the next one follows magical girl tropes.

Rules for this game:
4d6 drop lowest, six times, rolled on SV. If you don't like your array you can switch to point buy.
Warlocks only, and no multi-classing. You start at level 3.
Characters must be girls, must be of Good Alignment, and must be standard magical girl age.
Setting is modern.
Background for all characters is "schoolgirl" which lets you pick any two abilities to be proficient in, and the feature from Sage.
Starting equipment is an arcane focus, and mundane stuff a schoolgirl would have only. Because Magical Girls start with their transformation trinket, not with swords and armor.
All characters get the Armor of Shadows invocation for free, and can cast it on themselves as a bonus action.
Spells that do force damage are pink.
Allowed races are any from PHB or Volo's. vHuman is permitted (and thus feats).

I will accept at most 5 PCs, and each must have a different patron. Patrons from PHB and Xanathar's are allowed. It is not first come first serve, but rather by which characters catch my interest most.

Game will be held on Discord at times to be determined once players are accepted.

I'm GMT+1. Free on mondays, saturdays, and a bit of time on fridays.

So the world is a modern setting with all the different races in it, to be clear?

It's a typical dnd world with a slew of races, but without the medieval stasis.

In the name of Dnd Satan, I shall punish you!
Actually prolly not Asmo, but hell yeah.

Fiend Patron is Asmo. He is contractually obligated to offer to empower a champion to oppose him. So not really, in his name, but definitely with his power.

I'm absolutely interested, possibly as fiend or celestial aasimar.

I think I'll get Kyubey up as a Chainlock. Just need to finish working out how that'll actually work.

I'll grab a slot, but I'm not 100% on what I'll do yet. PROBABLY Celestial patron. I'm in the Central time zone.

@Aranfan Since I want to lean into the 'transforming weapon' aspect of Blade Pact, can I get a Custom Invocation like this:

Malleable Weapon
Requirements: Pact of the Blade
You can summon and transform your Pact Weapon as a Bonus Action instead of an Action.

Possibly. Maybe. I'll think about it.

Magical girls usually have fairly signature weapons that don't change much at a time. Only ones I can think of with transforming weapon is Kyoko's spear into a three section staff, and Kill La Kill's transforming scissors.

Wow didn't know you actually started a thread, and now I'm super disappointed as I'm traveling the next few days so I'm not going to have time to write a character sheet up

I have thought about it. It takes up an invocation slot, so it looks balanced to my newbie GM eyes. On the other hand, keeping track of all the dice seems like a pain.

I'll allow it.

Platinum the Trinity from Blazblue has a weapon that transforms and is her main gimmick.

Fate Testarossa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha has Bardiche, which starts off as a Halberd, but has a Scythe and Greatsword mode IIRC.

While it's not actually a transforming weapon, in most RPGs Homura's Unlimited Gun Works would be mechanically represented by a transforming weapon.

EDIT: oops, didn't reload my browser, so didn't see response.

Mallory Mason - Fiend
Double Post, but here's my character sheet:

Myth-Weavers Online Character Sheets

Mallory Mason is a delinquent. When she was in her first year of middle school, she was the rising star of the track team. However, she was kicked from the team when she attacked her teacher, though her reasons for doing so are unknown. In school her grades were abysmal, though there was always a small uptick up when a war came up in history.

Now, she's part of a gang of misfits who skip school, smoke cigarettes, and generally hang around while looking vaguely intimidating. They've claimed the turf around Angel's Heart High School As their territory, at least in theory.

As Magical Girl Blade Avenger, Mallory has a few special main abilities: a Transforming Weapon she calls Hellbrandt (she doesn't know what 'Brandt' means but it sounds cool), Amplify Wounds(Toll the Dead), where she increases damage an enemy has taken, and Vengeance Armor (Armor Of Agathys) which protects her and damages those who strike her, and Avenger's Mark (Hex), which increases her Damage on an Enemy.

Hmm. Radiant Chooser is more a lawful good type. Not sure picking a delinquent fits with its character.

I also don't know what half-elf (wood elf) means.

Certainly an interesting sheet. More Ryuko Matoi than classic MG. I shall sleep on it.

It's Half Elf Variant From SCAG. They swap out Skill Versatility (Two Skills Of Choics) for one of the Elf Subrace features, such as Wood Elf Fleet Of Foot (which I took) or the High Elf Cantrip

GMT+8, getting my foot in the door! I'll do something up on mythweaver soon.

EDIT: oh god, my rolls. Stat block: 15, 11, 10, 9, 9, 4. Felicity Bedelia is going to have the wisdom of a lemming.

Felicity Bedelia is not, most people would say, a nice nice person. She's a good person, they'll admit, after a bit of shifty looking around to be sure she's not listening in. This is, luckily, not difficult; you can always tell when Felicity Bedelia is listening in on a conversation, though it's easy to keep things from her if you just keep your voice down.

Felicity Bedelia is on a number of fora on the Internet, a self-assigned moderator for good who regularly gets criticised (and occasionally threadbanned) for lying and fear-mongering even though her motives are usually good. She defends herself by calling it mere hyperbole or reasonable justifications. These habits carry over into real life, and while people don't always immediately call her out on it, she'll often just say whatever she thinks will achieve her ends regardless of its truthfulness. Felicity Bedelia seeks out positions of authority in order to keep her classmates on the straight and narrow. She has so far only managed to be class president once in her three years of middle school.

She has friends, of course; but not what she would call close friends, in the way she means them. This is probably because Felicity Bedelia, while very good at telling people what to do and getting them to do it, is absolutely terrible at listening to people and doing the things they'd like her to do.

Let's see if rolling is worth it.

So far we have: A delinquent with a Heart if Gold, a wannabe leader without the insight to make it work, and a genuinely religious school girl.

Nice.
