A/N: Yo. This idea has been rattling around in my head for a while, so I decided to finally start writing it.

Summary: It isn't every day you wake up in a fantasy world. Even more unlikely is having the powers of an RPG character as well. Ridiculous, right? Wrong. This is my life now.

I am Jack Thomas, 24 year-old single no-lifer (and proud of it!) living in a small town called Hillside in southern Idaho. I always dreamed of waking up in a game, but that can't happen, right? Tell that to the floating grey box in front of me.

~You have been selected to play-test the new LunarOS RPG System. LRS is not responsible for any injuries incurred in the process of play-testing.~
~Close~

I tapped the close button, and the box rapidly jerked upwards out of view before disappearing.

What the hell? This isn't where I went to sleep!

Understatement of the century, there. I was in a tent in the middle of a spruce forest, wearing simple coarse linen clothing, with a knife in a sheath at my belt, next to a coin purse (sadly empty.) To top it off, there was a red bar and a blue bar at the top left of my vision with the number 100 in the middle of each.

"What the actual fuck is going on?"

I pinched myself hard to see if I was dreaming.

"OW!"

Apparently not... Maybe all that gaming is finally rotting my brain like Aunt Marion always said it would?

I decided to go with the Pascal's Wager method and ignore the possibility of insanity, just in case it was real. After all, most RPGs are rather dangerous.

I wandered around looking for a trail, and perhaps a stream to drink from. Eventually, I heard a low growl from behind me. I turned around just in time to narrowly avoid a claw swipe from a large dark grey wolf.

~Dire Wolf Lv. 5~
~HP: 260~
"Shit!" I shouted, as I dodged another swipe. It lunged for me, and managed to tackle me to the ground.

~Dire Wolf Dealt 30 Damage to HP~
~Dire Wolf Inflicted Bleeding Status. -5 HP/Minute Until Bleeding Stops.

I idly noticed the much decreased pain from what I would expect, and used my left hand, the only one not trapped under the wolf, to unsheath my knife. I desperately plunged it into the side of the wolf's neck, praying it would do significant damage.

~Citical Hit! Dealt 40 Damage to Dire Wolf!~
~Crippled Dire Wolf! Dire Wolf Attack Rate Halved!~

I stabbed it repeatedly, and managed to inflict Severe Bleeding on it, but took 35 more damage in the process. Finally, it burst into hundreds of motes of light, which flowed into me.

~Dire Wolf Defeated! +250 EXP!~
~Level Up!~
~Level Up!~

The world around me greyed out, various birds freezing in midair, and a large grey box with a golden border appeared before me.

~Name: Jack Thomas. Level: 3. Title: None.~

I added six points to VIT and four to STR.

~Finish Allocating Points?~
Y/N
After tapping Y, the menu disappeared the same way as the others, and color returned to the world. I stood up, and noticed my HP had increased to 220. I felt energized.

On the ground was a pile of loot from the dead Dire Wolf. I sorted through it, and got a message.

~Say 'Inventory' to access the Inventory Screen~
Thank God for tutorial messages.

"Inventory."

A small box appeared in the bottom right of my vision, with a list of my possessions.

~Inventory~
~Coarse Linen Shirt (E)~
~Coarse Linen Pants (E)~
~Tough Leather Boots (E)~
~Worn Knife (E)~
~Carry Weight: 3.5/25~

I picked up the pile and pushed it into the screen, and it appeared on the list.

~Dire Wolf Pelt~
~Silver Coin (3)~
I kept walking, until I found a hunting trail. It was then I noticed it starting to get dark...

A/N: Constructive Criticism is appreciated. Share and Enjoy!
