Heeeey! Welcome to my Elden Ring Let's Play!
For those who don't know me yet, I'm MordredRaal! A writer who as not been writing much lately, at least not for public consumption. Quite a busy time for me lately. Good kinda busy, but still!
So I've been looking for a kinda low time investment writing project I could work on when I felt like it, and since I got a sudden urge to replay Elden Ring today, this is that project, hopefully.
Given that I'm making this post on the same day the idea occurred to me I think my odds are better than the average "low time investment" project started by writers : V
Will I offer great insight into the mechanics, or story, or lore of the game? No, probably not! But hopefully it'll be fun to share my replay of the game anyway, for me and maybe also you!
So, yeah. Initially I was worried that I'd have trouble taking a sufficient amount of screenshots, since Elden Ring does not like you tabbing out, but just using the screenshot key without tabbing out seems to have solved the problem. I'll play around a bit with how many screenshots I'll take, but at least it won't be a major pain for each one.
For character creation I decided to go with asimilar identical start to my first playthrough. Mostly because it was a ton of fun, and doing other builds was not nearly as engaging when I tried it. What can I say I'm a creature of habit (And also the Katana is fun) : V
We begin with the opening cut scene which is really hype, once the music kicks in at least.

And then we wake up in a run down chaple and the game starts.
The first thing I do is unequip the shield in and bow I started with and switch to wielding my weapon with two hands. The katana is all we'll need from here on out (mostly cause it's op and I do not have the patience/brainpower for doing much more than stabbing and dodging in these games)
Then (after picking up the message tool) I step out of the church and into the first of many vistas
Anyone who's played this game before knows what awaits us at the foot of that statue.
Our first boss!
And in Fromsoftware tradition it's not one you're supposed to beat.
Does my long honed skill allow me to prevail anyway? Nope. I haven't played the game in quite a while. But I do better than I expected! Nonetheless I hit the dirt before long and am deposited in the tutorial cave.
Melenia inspects us and then fucks off, while we wake up.
I do actually go through the tutorial, since I always forget if there are goodies in there. There aren't, but at least it let's me refamiliarize myself with the controls.
Which would be more helpful if they actually worked!
Like I said, Elden Ring really doesn't like you tabbing out.
I need to restart the game to return my controller to function and figure out how to take screenshots without tabbing out.
After that short delay I leave the structure we woke up in and we're finally in the game for real!
Here we see the first proper region of the game as well as two motherfuckers.
I go up to the first interactable NPC of the game and he delivers his infamous dialog.
I'll have you know I'm most certainly not maidenless! Though my character admittedly is at the moment.
I more or less ignore the rest of what he says and make my way into the game world.
Sneaking my way past the giant knight on horseback (whom we'll get to later with more levels under our belt) I pass through the broken walls of the Church of Ellah and we meet two important categories of help
At the bonfire sits the first of many merchants, purveyors of goods both useful and "it's unique so I'll buy it just so I have it and don't have to search for this specific guy if I ever want it". From him I buy the crafting kit. Which category that falls into I'll leave up to my readers discretion.
Even more important than that though is the first of the upgrade materials, the awkwardly named "Smithing Stone [1]". These will allow us to upgrade our weapon(using that anvil for now), though we don't have enough of them yet.
Thus enriched with stuff I set off for our next important destination, by looking at our currently very dour map
That little symbol on the map is important, because it'll be where we get a less shit map, but first we need to go to a grace just to the north west of it.
To that end I slaughter my way through the small forest that's on the way, killing both soldiers and the local wildlife, until I arrive at the ruins I'm looking for.
Now there are quite a few enemies in these ruins, but before we deal with them I sneak around to the grace on the other side of the camp.
Because there we meet Melenia and unlock the ability to level up! Though we don't quite have enough runes to level up yet.
But thankfully there's a camp of enemies ready to remedy that right beside us~
And that's the first post for this Let's Play. I do have a bit more of my first session to go through, but in keeping with the idea of keeping this as a light fun project the posts will stay short!
We'll see when I type up the next update, but until then I hope you enjoyed this!
