Let's Play HOI 4: Equestria at War Escalation '84

In the year 1983 the Cold War between the United States of America and the Soviet Union had been bubbling for decades. So far, they had avoided direct conflict, supporting other countries in proxy wars. But that summer, a pair of military exercises caused each side to believe that the other was finally invading. Both fearing the other would do it first, they launched nuclear weapons, bathing their world in nuclear fire.

Two years later, with Earth about to become uninhabitable due to nuclear winter, three nations, the United States, The Soviet Union, and the Union of European Nations have built one-way portals. Hoping to flee earth for a habitable planet.

Arriving at their new home starved, sick, scattered, and with no shelter, the remnant of humanity hopes to find peace in their new world. But with war already on the horizon in their new home,

But which nation will we follow in this new world?

[] United States of America
Leader: Army Council
Ideology: Non-Aligned
Government: Non-Aligned Regime
Ruling Party: The Junta

After the first nukes were exchanged, the US army high command took over the country to wage a war of vengeance against the USSR. They suppressed the US congress and forced the President into hiding. After regrouping their forces, they invaded their neighboring countries, Canada, Mexico, before expanding to Australia and New Zealand and finally, the entire American continent. Even with all of the resources of their new conquered land, invasion of the USSR was impossible, as there was no longer infrastructure for a navel landing.

Now that they are in a new world, will they assert dominance over it? Or has the madness gone on long enough?

[] Soviet Union
Leader: Mikhail Gorbachev
Ideology: Communist
Government: Socialist Regime
Ruling Party: ASCP (Arab-Soviet Communist Party)

With the death of many communist party members, Mikhail Gorbachev was tasked to lead what was left of the USSR. His plans for reform were posponed when the bombs fell. Nevertheless, conscious of his dangerous task, he led the survivors to the less affected Middle East. There, the Soviet Union managed to gather some Middle East countries together in an alliance. At least to survive the war. This alliance is fragile, preturbed by the rivalry of its members, like Iran and Iraq who were at war since 1980.

Now, the Soviet Union is in a new land, untouched by war. But it will not be long until old rivalries from within and without start to rise again. Can Gorbachev change Soviet society? Will the Soviet Union survive in this new world?

[] Union of European Nations
Leader: Federal Council
Ideology: Harmonic
Government: Harmonic Regime
Ruling Party: EDB (European Democratic Bloc)

From the ruins of Europe, the Union of European Nations rose as a unified government, hoping to save the remnant of the European populations and rallying Europe's armies. The UEN is made up of not only Western European nations, but Eastern European countries that abandoned the Warsaw Pact after the nuclear holocost. Only the UK, Finland, and the USSR refused to join. But even with the cooperation of many nations, the UEN is the weakest of the three belligerents, having lost 90% of its population.

Now, these divided people are in a new, unknown world. Danger is everywhere, but mankind still survives. Hopefully, it will build a peaceful future.

Oh my god, you are downright sadistic with the poor Ponies.

Oh my god, you are downright sadistic with the poor Ponies.
I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm only the 7th worse thing to happen to this world that decade.

Anyway, since its a 3 way tie, I'm gonna roll a die.

1: US
2: SU
3: UEN

Edit: I rolled a d4, and it landed on 3. Looks like I'm playing as the UEN those Harmonist hippies...

First Recon Mission Report and First Contact

We seem to have arrived on a peninsula. In a miracle, this new world has a breathable atmosphere and similar flora and fauna to earth. Establishing ourselves in our new capital, Unity, we have sent soldiers to perform a recon of this new world.

In about a week, humanity mad first contact with an alien species. But these weren't little green men from Mars. They were multi-colored ponies. A group of their police officers met with one of our patrols. It was a surprisingly calm affair. After confirming that we both spoke English (Though they call it Equestrian), one of their officers exchanged cigarettes with one of their officers and they started to talk.

Over the next few weeks, we found that the US and USSR both made it to this new world as well. Ironically, the Soviets are to the west and the Americans are to the east.

For now, Equestria has let us settle in this area. The Crystal Empire has even sent us humanitarian (or ponytarian) aid.

Of course, other things have happened. New Mareland, one of Equestria's colonies and one of the US' neighbors, is taking steps towards independence, Equestria held its version of the Olympics, the emperor of the Griffin Empire, a formally continent spanning power now reduced to a shadow of its former self, has died, a coup in the River Republic has led to the installation of a communist regime, and another civil war is occurring on the Griffonian country of Wingbardy, but we can't worry about that. Between the Militas and Reservists that we've called into action, we have 13 divisions, but we have no infrastructure to make weapons to equip our soldiers. We even have little ways to feed our soldiers. Or civilians. Or anyone, really.

At least, we are starting to solve those problems. We're rebuilding our industry, fishing boats are bringing us food, and we've appointed Michael I to help stablize the nation until we can solve the rest of pur problems. Homelessness, overcrowding, poverty, and the mental and physical scars we bear because of the War.

Now that our position is secure, we've started to move out of tents and prefabs and building actual homes. Unfortunately, we have a sizable population of ponies in our land, locals who lived here before we moved in. In order to show that we respect the locals, and to not offend the much larger country that extends past our northern, southern, eastern, and western borders, we elected to respect both cultures.

Also, the County of Longsword in Griffonia has broken out in a 3-way civil war, and a griffin that looks like Musolinni has won the Wingbardian civil war and is bringing the country under his fascist rule, but that's America's problem.

As for us, its about six months in and things are stable for us. We're getting aid from our two largest neighbors. There haven't been any wars near us so we can focus on recovery, we've gotten some of our former active duty troops back in the army and we've appointed General Wolfgang Altenburg as head of the UEN army as well as given former French Chief of Navy Jean-Rene Lannuzel an advisory position with more candidates ready to fill the holes we have in our armed forces. Because while we're at peace, its likely not going to last.

Rebuilding our Society
We're fishing up food, mining iron and aluminum, and building some infrastructure for our nation. While we're focusing inward, it seems like the Soviet Union wishes to expand its influence beyond its borders.

It is unknown exactly what state the Soviet Union military is in, or if it could even mount an effective defense against the Changling Lands. We have plans to rectify that, but for now, we're focusing on

Magic is ubiquitus across this planet. And while we're looking into poaching some talent from Equestria and the Crystal Empire, we need an institution where we can study it ourselves.

However, while we focused on our education system, a decision we made earlier came back to haunt us. Earlier, we had a choice to either build slowly and safely, or build quickly, cutting corners. We chose the latter. However...

We'll need to remember this next time.

Of course, the world turned. A breakaway state formed from the country of Nova Griffonia north of Equestria, and the two nations went to war soon after.

A counter revolutionary uprising occurred in the River Republic and was quickly put down,

And a "Constitutionalist" uprising occurred in the Colthagian Republic and was put down.

However, the year drew to a close. people celebrated the holidays. Christmas, Hanukkah, even Hearth's Warmings, a local holiday.

As the first year in this new world comes to a close, we are in a better place than when we started. Hopefully, we can say the same next year.

Prelude to the Great War
While we are surviving, we are still a far cry from the nation we could be. With only four major cities, and much of our population still spread out in small settlements, we have to rebuild our industrial base if we want to get back on our feet. Near the start of the new year, we have started seeking foreign investments into our civilian, military, and navel industries. While we have adopted a policy of neutrality in foreign wars, we may still need to defend outselves. Especially since we have have no treaties that would compel anyone to defend us in the event of a war.

And it seems our reindustrialization didn't come a moment too soon.

Stalliongrad is an Equestrian breakaway state, having declared independence after a famine ravaged the region. They are currently a large, Communist state, granted one wracked by problems similar to ours, famine and poor industrialization. However, our under equipped army, non-existent navy and air force, and with many of our population still suffering from the effects of radiation poisoning, our prospects in a hypothetical war are grim, And given the name of the new General Secretary's name is literally Sinister, war may come sooner than we'd like.

On the other side of the pond, it seems like a Pro-democracy revolution has happened in the former Kingdom of Aquileia, now Aquileian Republic, has overthrown the King and is preparing to defend itself from several surrounding Duchies and Counties. The American people would probably love it, but I'm sure that the Junta that runs it wouldn't want their people to get any ideas.

However, we need to focus on our own problems. One of which is our lack of an air force. When we came to this new world, we brought as much as we could. That included some mothballed J29Fs and J21s, Swedish and Yugoslavian fighters and bombers. While we've been stimyed by a lack of trained pilots, our earlier efforts have given some breathing room, allowing us to train up people to fill the cockpits.

We've also sent Agent Athina to set up an intelligence network in Canterlot. While we don't expect there to be much trouble from our neighbor, it never hurts to have another set of eyes and ears.

As for the Revolution, it seems that the Aquileian Republic is victorious after two months of fighting.

Queen Chrysalis has claimed the Olenian territory as her own. From diplomats from Equestria, we know that Chrysalis attempted to conquer Equestria in the past and it seems that she is trying again. She is likely trying to take Olenian natural resources. She may even be planning on using the deer population as conscripted soldiers. The breakdown of the Olenian/Soviet alliance after the King was deposed and replaced by Queen Velvet will keep the Soviet Union out of this war, and with Equestria unwilling to assist, and us unable to assist, Olenia stands alone.

In an unsurprising move, Olenia has refused to accept Queen Chrysalis' terms. Which has lead to another unsurprising move.

Military Buildup
Our Generals believe that we will see war within the next three years, if not sooner. They strongly recommended that we allocate more of our industrial and scientific resources towards the military, as well as working to convince our populus to support a war. This will be difficult. The War back home destroyed over 90% of humanity and accomplished nothing. Most people, more than three-quarters of our population, is actively anti-war. These "Doves" will make justifying war difficult in general, though we suspect this number to decrease once war comes to our doorstep.

As for our efforts to prepare, we have re-developed a battle rifle. The vz.52/57. Its old, even for us, but its on par with local weapons. We hope to be able to manufacture more modern (for us) weapons

Though how much time we have to upgrade our ground forces is in question.

The Oleneans are giving it their all, but the Changlings seem to be pushing through their defenses. Unless they can turn things around, its unlikely that they'll last the year.

But not all news is grim. We, in cooperation with local allies, have managed to create an effective treatment for radiation poisoning that affects so many of us.

We've also managed to build oil rigs off the coast of Poninsula. We are getting some protests from the locals and some more environmentally minded humans, but until our tanks can run on dreams, we'll need to settle for oil.

We have also begun to focus our time into solidifying our military doctrine. We don't have the numbers to match most of our potential enemies,

While working on re-equipping our troops, Agent Athina has gone dark, an East Griffonian company released a new affordable car, and the Olenians have finally lost their war.

Our efforts have solidly become focused on repelling a possible changling attack. But until then, we have done something that should have been done a long time ago. We have finally made formal contact with the other surviving nations from Earth.

We are negotiating with Princess Celestia in order for us to have a summit in Canterlot, on neutral ground, so that we may solve any remaining issues between our nations diplomatically, and formally end The War that claimed our first home.

We just hope that we will never have to raise another rifle on a human again.

Reconciliation?
While preparing for war, we have decided that we needed to bolster our navel defenses. We've seen a series of small islands to our south. They're mostly populated by dragons, but are Equestrian terretory. The islands, the Spa Islands, are severely underdeveloped, but could be a good place for a navel base. It took some negotiations, but Equestria sold us the islands, though some of the local dragons did complain about it.

We don't have the resources to build a fleet comparable to the ones back on Earth, so we've been focusing on submarines in order to tie up enemy fleets and convoys. We've begun urbanizing the islands, and pumping some untouched reserves of oil and aluminum from it.

We have plans to put battleships into action, but that will have to wait. For now, we've decided too formally address the local pony population in out lands. There have been protests against our presence, some even calling for our expulsion.

They may not be happy with us, but we've done what we could, within reason.

Over the next month, the Governer of Nova Griffonia, a colony north of the Stalliongrad, was assassinated.

Right now, their government is in turmoil, as the democracy struggles to decide a new leader. For the sake of stability on the continent, we wish them luck.

Two days later, we made a strange discovery.

We've decided to study the artifact. Our position in this world is precarious, and we should do all we can to secure it.

Some have asked us not to, as they claim that studying the artifact could have disastrous consequences, but this is real life, not some movie.

The End of WW3
As we prepare for the future, we should revisit something in the past. We were focused on ourselves that we barely noted that New Mareland had declared independence from Equestria.

From what we have heard, New Mareland, was a colony of Equestria, and very much dependent on them. However, a lack of economic support and many other factors have led to the colony to question its reliance on its overlord. After a vote in their congress, they unanomously voted to sever ties. After independence, Jet Set, the former Govorner General, was elected President.

While this won't have much direct effect on us, its possible that Equestria may not take this lying down. It may seek alternative countries to ally with to make up for its lost ally. Or it may drive them to be more militeristic, to reclaim their colony by force.

However, that is an issue for another day. For today, we have to worry about the affairs on our own continent.

We've made contact with some changlings that are dissatisfied with Chrysalis' rule, her hawkish policies for the continent, and her, personally. We've done our best to help them organize. Should the time come, we hope to use them, if not to directly overthrow Chrysalis, but at least to split up Chrysalis' forces during a future war.

However, Stalliongrad has chosen to declare war first. They're currently attacking their northern neighbor, hoping to spread its communist ideology. But while war rages elsewhere, we have finally managed to arrange a Summit in Canterlot between the three surviving human powers. After nearly a week of negotiations and discussions, we have signed a peace treaty, officially bringing World War Three to an end, and pledging to never use nuclear weapons again.

And in less... conventional diplomacy, we have managed to recruit a Changling Intelligence Agent. We are very happy that we'll have an asset that can more freely move in the Changling Lands.

Though things are not all well. The crown that was discovered has had disastrous consequences. While no lasting damage has been done, we can only hope that it is not found again.

Over the next few months, Nova Griffonia and Stalliongrad have ended their war, without as much as a shifted border, with Stalliongrad shifting its focus on Virgilia, another Griffin Nation on the continent, The Nova Griffonia Provisional Government was dissolved, leaving the government under military dictatorship. In addition, the Griffion Empire across the sea, which had many of its former territories declare independence, have retaken all of their previous lands.

With the Emperor and his regent stating that they have no intention is stopping, we have reached out to them diplomatically. We may not agree with them, but we can only afford to have one enemy right now. We aren't signing any treaties with them, yet, but hopefully, we can keep them off our backs just in case they decide to look beyond their continent to expand their borders.

Crossroads
So, apparently, there's a coalition of nations on Griffonia called the River Coalition. They have banded together in order to resist the Griffon Empire. However, their alliance has been fractured as of late. Shortly after our arrival, one of the key members, The River Republic, left the Federation after a Communist Coup. So far, the nation has been left alone. However, it seems that the rest of the federation members have grown tired of the independent state in the middle of their borders. Especially since it sits on a valuable trade route. Even the Bakaran Republic, which had left the Coalition, has joined the war.

The war wouldn't last long. The Socialist River Republic lost half of its territory and is now a Puppet of the Republic of Wittenland.

Before the previous year was out, we began negotiations to obtain the Somland Islands, a series of small islands off the east coast of Equestria. They were sparsely populated and undeveloped, but its a place where we can spread out our population. With 30 million people in a tone peninsula and a few islands, we need all the room we can get, even with some of the population leaving for other nations that would have them.

Once again, we were asked to preserve its natural beauty, but we could not. In addition to aluminum, we have discovered a deposit of magical crystals on these islands, and we have finally invented something to make full use of them.

The Krag-Magisk is already in production. With its non-magical counterpart, the MAT-49,

We hope to replace the bolt-action rifles and scavenged civilian weapons that we have been using to equip our army.

Of course, other nations are making their own plans. In Equis, Chrysalis is still planning on invading Equestria, and if Equestria falls, so does the continent. The Kingdoms of Wingbardy and the Griffon Empire are both poised to make their plays for domination of their continent. Even in Zebrica, a continent to our south, has their players. As there have been no human nations that landed there, and contact with them has been limited, we have mostly ignored the continent. However, we have at least two powers that are making plays for supremacy.

The first is Chiropterra. Made up of Thestrals, or bat-ponies as they are derisively called, they are ponies that remained loyal to Nightmare Moon, the evil alternate personality of Princess Luna. They have a grudge against Equestria for defeating Nightmare Moon twice. They used to be a small nation, even referred to as being merely a cult, but in the last six months, they have aggressively expanded their sphere of influence through alliances and, conquering other nearby nations.

The second possible threat is the Stormland Regency. From what Equestrians historians have told us, the Storm King was once a warlord who conquered half of Zebrica. When he was slain in battle, the continent broke apart. While someone claiming to be his successor would normally not be an issue, the fact that he is successfully conquering other nations in South Zebrica may be an issue.

With our nation stable, our economy growing, our army growing stronger, and our threats becoming more numerous, our nation is at a crossroads. The world will not stand still for us. And while we need to focus on the past and present, we must also consider the future of our Nation.

We could keep going with the Status Quo, building ourselves up, but reaching out to others diplomatically. Maybe even have a more permanent alliance with the United States and Soviet Union. This would be in keeping with the Harmonic Ideology of our neighbors as well as being true to how we are now. Between strengthening our ties to Equestria, supporting the Changling Rebels, we could form a federation of our own on the continent.

However, we could also allow Communists In the Council. We have disallowed political extremists in the European Council. We want to avoid the mistakes that lead to our world being destroyed. However, the European Communist Bloc, a coalition of communists and socialists, have called for open Communists to be allowed to join our council. That their ideas will merely help to make sure that all of the common people are cared for. Though there is always the fear that they may wish to bring upon a communist government by more violent means.

There are even whispers of a Nationalist Coup. The Pan European National Party, a group of what the locals would call Supremacists, but we would call Fascists, wants us to assert our military might upon this new world. They would have us conquer this planet and bring glory to our nation. Though some of the means by which they want to bring glory to our nation are questionable at best. And at worse, it could pave the way to destroying this world as well.

[] Status Quo
[] Communists in the Council
[] Nationalist Coup

[x] Communists in the Council

Well, only two votes. I'll see if anyone else wants to vote tomorrow. If not, then I'll roll a dice and see if we're going down the path of Democracy or Communism.

The Union of European Socialist Republics
It is undemocratic to not allow people from all ideologies into the council. Especially one that nearly half of the countries of the UEN practiced.

Even while the people are homeless and starving, the leadership was always fed, and housed. The leadership were the first to get the cure for radiation poisoning when it was developed. After a hard fought battle in the Council's Chambers, we have finally gotten good men and women into the Council, where they will truly advocate for the workers of this country.

But as we prepare to come to power, a nation who also transitioned to a Communist System, the Socialist River Republic, has come under attack from its neighbors.

Currently, the SRR is under the protection of the Republic of Wittenland, another socialist nation, and has the backing of other nations, the fascists in Lake City have been militarizing and have their own coalition. It is unknown who the winner will be in thie war.

In a bit of news that is both close and far away, Equestria has recognized the Griffon Republic the rightful Griffon Government.

As they're both "Harmonic", it's obvious why she chose to open diplomatic relations with them. With New Mareland independent, and seeming to win their war against the Kingdom of Wingbardy without their help, it seems that Princess Celestia is trying to prop up her power base. Which could also be why she did this.

She offered "Friendship" to the Buffilos, and all it cost was their independence. How good it was for the Buffilos remains to be seen, but it has done wonders for us. Seeing how Princess Celestia treats her "friends" is causing many people to question Equestria's intentions. And the current administration's wanting to maintain an alliance with them. More and more people are seeing things our way. With help from Soviet propagandists, we are spreading our message to the creatures of Europe.

But not everything can be good news.

The Polar Bear Communities in Northern Equestria have voluntarily become a puppet of Queen Chrysalis. Now dubbed the Northern Protectorate, they have traded independence for peace. We can only hope that this does not continue, or else no one will be strong enough to stop them when someone does say "no".

But for the UEN, things are looking bright.

This was a revolution, not fought with guns and tanks, but with protests, votes, dealings, and popular support!

The people of Europe have spoken, and they demanded real change. The ECB, The Communist Party in our nation, has cemented a majority. While the President is still a part of the Democratic Bloc, elections will be held next year, and its very likely that we will win those elections as well!

It will take some time in order to reorganize the government, but we are on the right track.

However, it seems like for every one piece of good news domestically, there are two pieces of bad news internationally. The Commonwealth of New Mareland is losing their war. Without support, the much larger Kingdom of Wingbardy is pushing from two fronts.

In addition, the Storm Regency has defeated most of the regional powers and has Declared itself the Storm Kingdom and they have no intention of stopping.

We will have many challenges, both from within our nation and outside of it. We will have problems in the coming years. No one with sense will deny that. However, now that we are in power, we can create a government that is truly made for the people, and not the corporations and the politicians they bought with their blood money. This shall be a new era for the people of Europe.

Brotherhood and Unity

The Great War
The social reforms that we have been happening at a steady pace. Our people are already getting their needs met, and we have nationalized the largest of private companies. We have also done away with most of the unnecessary bureaucracy in our government. Wars are not won by the side that has to sign in triplicate, after all.

However, we have received an offer from Equestria, to join the United Ponies Alliance, a military alliance dedicated to mutral self-defense. After New-Mareland has left, the only two other nations are the Crystal Empire and an Island named Puerto Caballo, both puppets of Equestria. Reviewing the terms, we would not be a puppet, but an independent member state, as well as able to leave at any time.

The Council is divided. Not only because of our neutrality, but because of our own propaganda painting them as imperialists after they annexed the Buffalo lands. Many of the ECB are calling for us to ally with the Soviet Union or Stalliongrad instead.

However, there are two major players on the continent. One will destroy us, and the other wants to protect us. Even with a Communist Bloc of us, the Soviets, and Stalliongrad, we won't be able to stop the Changling Tide. We plan to leave the alliance as soon as the greater threat is done, but no one else needs to know that.

We accepted the offer. Almost immediately, there were protests, calling us traitors to the European people. Communists and Nationalists alike are protesting the alliance, each for different reasons. A strong Anti War movement has sprung up. Mobilizing people will be difficult.

Though it seems that the CHanglings aren't having that problem.

They are justifying their invasion already, its likely that they will attack before the year is out. Our troops have been moved to the border between Equestria and the Changling Lands, helping to reinforce the defenses there and our airwings are stationing near Shire. When Chrysalis sends her forces to invade, European forces will be there to meet them.

Speaking of War, with the Commonwealth of New Mareland on the backfoot, it seems that they have joined a new alliance. They have joined the Entente along with the Aquileien Republic and the Griffenstone Confederation.

Already, troops are mobilizing to protect the Commonwealth, though whether it is enough to turn the tide will remain to be seen.

Several days after we agreed to join the UPA, Princess Celestia has agreed to sell us a piece of land from the Equestrian mainland!

While it is mostly undeveloped, with only two cities of note and one factory between them, it has potential. Potential that we are more than happy to exploit.

Further west, however, we are about to undertake a risky operation. We have been building our inteligence network in thee Changling Lands. With war on the horizon, we have undertaken an operation to seize the Changling Cypher. Knowing about their communications will be imeasuribly useful in antisipating their next move.

However, it seemed like we started this mission too late. On June 24th, the Entent across the ocean defeated the Kingdom of Wingbardy and have divided the spoils between themselves and new puppet states. However, the news was overshadowed over here by another war.

After three days, we got the call we had been expecting.

We answered and officially joined the war on Equestria's side. Soon after, we received another unexpected ally

The border region has become a veritable graveyard, as the Changlings can't get a foothold to push forward. In just two months, almost 50,000 people died on all sides with no clear winner.

And then the game crashed.

September 23rd, every time, the game crashes.

I could start a new game, but I lost all of my momentum. I don't think I'll be continuing this thread. Hope you all have a good day.
