So, yeah. Mabinogi, or 'Mabi', is a MMORPG released by Nexon back in 2003 (?), and I had a lot of fun times with that game. Recently, I have an Anime-based MMO itch that needs to be scratched, and so I decided to try out a LP of this for my winter break, because, well, I really have not much else to do.
I've decided to start anew, and the biggest question is...
...should my character be a guy or a girl?
Already waaayyyy ahead of you.
Say hello to... err... 'Arwres'. According to Google Translator, that is Welsh for 'heroine'. A fitting name indeed, for she will be a heroine to be remembered in Erinn.
The story of Arwres, the Heroine, began somewhere in the Soul Stream, where she has been willed to existence. She has barely grasped on her consciousness when a beautiful girl seemingly appeared from the thin air that surrounds the Stream.
Her name, as it turned out, was 'Nao'. The Guardian of the Milletians, The Gatekeeper of the Soul Stream, The One That Has the Size G-Cups.
The young Arwres began asking questions. Questions like "Where am I going?", and "Who has led to my creation?" Nao just smiled. Arwres was going to a land named Erinn, a land of adventure, of beauty. At Erinn, Nao said, Arwres could do anything there. "Young Arwres, you are to lead a life in Erinn."
As for her latter question, Nao shrugged with a smile. "Your soul must have heard its callings from Erinn."
As Arwres prepared to leave, she has one final question.
"How do you managed to have such an ample chest?"
Not a second passed before Arwres was, in a bright flash, quickly whisked away to her destination: Tir Chonaill.
In the Korean? version, you can actually launch yourself on an (excessively) long side quest with some of the tailoring NPCs and talk to Nao about this specifically.
It awards you the 'breast' keyword, which, iirc, is completely and utterly useless because nobody has a response coded for it.
Also Nao's chest has physics* for literally no good reason (and no other character in the game has chest physics, because this game is old as heck and tries to run well).
*in fact, she doesn't even have physics. She has animations for her breast jiggle on-spawn which happens every time she spawns into existence. I just... I'm so conflicted on the fact that it's there...
This is literally one of my favorite-est stories of all time-- the way the narrative and parts of the gameplay are woven into the same thing is just flawless.
I'd go do the tablet grind for G7 for you but you're in Mari and probably not in NA knowing my luck
not that it really stops me, i just don't have mari characters. «nts:» Ardalydd
why you no capture the twirl
that's like the best part of this scene
Whenever Nao spawns, she does a very slow spin with her arms outward, bringing them down as she falls (EVER SO VERY SLOWLY) to the ground, landing en-pointe and slightly bent, then unbends.
She also has these glowing rings with white feathers show up and shrink as they fly upward that start that animation. It's just so pretty, combined with the searing white of the location's "skyline" (you can see it in the top-right corner of the last screenshot. It is LITERALLY NOTHING BUT that. 360 degrees around, except for a staircase and some bars which you can also see in the screenshot (they fully circle the platform though)); it creates a lot of space very efficiently.
...Also, a proper LP of this game requires three players. Any plans on getting the other two so far?
Nope. I got plenty of space for two more folks from SV to jump in at the last moment. Hell, my Combat Mastery is already Rank 7, and I started a few hours ago!
---
In the RP, I will try to maintain a narrative, as if I am telling a story of a Heroic Milletian, that secured her place in the history books for ages to come.
...
you get way too much skill training now
i miss 2006 when you could not get things.
...I suppose I also miss there only being 3 combat methods.

Welcome to Tir Chonaill.

A shitton of tutorials later, Arwres got her first task from the village guard, Trefor: a villager has wandered a bit too far into Alby Dungeon, and is now trapped inside with a ton of monsters. Arwres took up to the challenge, screaming "I'LL GO" at the top of her lungs before Trefor finished his sentence. "Darn, kid, you're a bit too excited for this!"
(So, it's a hostage situation? Reminds me of... Rainbow 6 Siege. :3)
---
Apparantly, the 'monsters' inside Alby dungeons were a little more than oversized terrorist spiders and rats. Arwres rolled her eyes as she tactically skillfully struck down the boss of the AO dungeon, a Giant Red Spiderling, with a burst of assault rifle fire few swings of her short sword as the hostage lost villager looked with awe.
"OH MUH GAWD HOW DID YOU DO THAT"
"...umm, they're pretty easy to kill..."
The rewards of that dungeon was paltry, but still, Arwres felt as if she contributed to saving someone's life, even if that someone was being held hostage from monsters that a 13-year-old could kill with ease.
She has barely completed her quest prompt when she suddenly heard a voice in her head.
A black-winged goddess asking for her help.
(Next up: Generation 1 Storyline! Or a portion of it!)
Duncan: "Quick! You must save the Goddess!"
Arwres: *gulps*
Update 3: Generation 1 Playthrough
The call from Morrighan, the Goddess of War and Vengenance, has catapulted Arwres into a quagmire. One that could doom the world.
What she has learned so far:
One of the Three Warriors, Tarlach, is apparently alive, even though he has to transform to a bear. Mari and Ruairi, the other two of the trio, is presumed dead.
Tarlach's master, Mores, has defected to the Fomors after finding out that his wife and friends were murdered, convinced by Morrighan, apparently...
...which was actually Cichol, the God of the Fomors, in disguise.
Much of the quest line was to hunt down the 3-book series that Mores wrote after he defected. The last one reveals his plan for vengeance against humanity: he will rebuild Glas Ghaibhleann, Mabinogi's own METAL GEAR and the giant the decimated Erinn in the past.
The priestess of the town of Dunbarton, Kristell, was actually a former Succubus that fell in love with Tarlach. She's the main reason why Tarlach is not, well, dead.
Tir Na Nog is actually a fucked up place.
Now it's time for our heroine to prepare for the droplights... and go for Tir Na Nog, the place formerly known as the promised land.
...
...
Seriously, guys I don't think I can do this alone. Requesting reinforcements!
One of the Three Warriors, Tarlach, is apparently alive, even though he has to transform to a bear. Mari and Ruairi, the other two of the trio, is presumed dead.
Tarlach, the wizard of the trio. He is a Druid, and is a very powerful magic user in his own right. He constantly reminisces about his teacher, Mores, but more than that is generally knowledgeable and informs his fellow adventurers over matters semi-trivial and quintessential.
Mari is a young, by any standard, adventurer. She is an expert with the bow.
Ruairi is the one that first receives a vision from the Goddess Morrighan that she is in danger. He's a melee fighter that smashes things with swords (yes, really. he uses blunt weapon animations with a sword).
Correction:
Tir Na Nog, often called The Land of Eternity, is a place of eternal paradise and wonder.
Tir Na Nog, however, is called Another World, and is a barren landscape, where everything is damaged or eroded, brown and solemn all around.
However, the world called Tir Na Nog is, in actuality, the true reality. Erinn, the world the majority of the game takes place in, is the real Land of Eternity, the true Tir Na Nog.
...Which is confusing as heck, isn't it?
Tir Na Nog isn't Tir Na Nog, but Erinn.
(This is why many locations in 'Tir Na Nog' are labelled as '[City] of Another World' instead)
To be fair, Mabinogi is very point and click, although skills would be a nice once over. I kind of want to do a "Mabinogi in Depth" thing, but since this is Tankette's show I don't want to be presumptuous. Probably for another thread.
But seriously, I decided to give this game another bash for the first time in years, because this thread reminded me that it existed, and oh my god. Humans are so tiny.

Which server are you in? I wonder, if you're at Mari, we could party up.
And yeah, I was thinking about how combat in Mabi works and the combos that I improvised, but everyone that reads this thread is a Mabi vet (including me, but I was an archer )
---
Should I skip Gen 1 and (via Duncan) go directly to Gen 2?

I started a new character on Mari. I see the Uchiha Clan is still around. :lol, jesus it's been like... 4 / 5 years or so since I've last played and they're still here?
I STILL HAVE EIRY ON MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER
SHUSH YOU, SHE IS BEST EGO.
Unfortunately, my plan was to spend today getting a character on Mari, but I just found out (in fact, I was woken up to the news) that we're going places.
Tots would, but I just rediscovered that Mabi's screenshots all have this gaudy watermark. I'd get around it by using the steam client, but I don't remember the password / email address I used for that one.
