Kingdom of God: A Quest of Holy Revolution

There is a spectre haunting Vaspukaran - the spectre of pugilism.
I understood that reference :V

And you, who are the most radical, the smallest, the poorest, of all the Pugilists there, draw eyes who have not seen you before. The women of the Convent of the Gunpowder Eucharist, their cheeks stained with powder, the Jurors of the Scourge of God, who slap their backs lightly with the lashes of their own repentence, and the wandering assortment of hooligans, and sports fans, and hardened former penitents, lean, and mean, who fought their way from bondage, cannot be hidden from the watching crowds.
Wow we go hard

man-eating trees (more accurately, predatory trees that may eat men), giant eagles, poisonous meter-long worms, and undulating, endless, scalp-high grass, the plateau has been a deathtrap since the time of Babarak.
Well that's terrifying, Ischak is a nightmare for any invader.

New Reformation Faction: Metamoa

Turn 2: Map Update

Let the hype run thru us, fellow disciples!

[X] Set up a smuggling route for weapons going north [significant help but temporary loss of revenue from smuggling].

I think Qanam might be a good idea just for the ability to follow that up later with his presence embedded in the Ischak Rising and the Metamoa used as a channel of communication through us straight to the streets of the capital. Like not just pamphleteering in their support but like directly feeding the responses of Vashti into the ecosystem of radicalism and pugilism and thus up to the Sanhedrin, and likewise feeding into the deliberations of the Metamoa direct intelligence of events in the eternal city and important points of strategic insight that could mean life or death for the Ischak people.

While sending Qanam would help ensure they follow the same doctrine, I think I rather cement our friendship with them first. Ensure their survival and arm them well first, and then send Qanam.

Fundamentally I think we can't ignore the material conditions. The rebellion was good and lucky and managed to overwhelm the machine guns of the Jurors in a miracle. But we cannot rely on miracles happening every time. Material advantages win wars, and so we must shrink the advantages the Jurors have as much as we possiy can, before all the guns the rebels have captured run dry of ammunition.

Let those who would harm the good people up north hear the loud, decisive word of God.

I see the special military operation to de-heretify Ischak is going swimmingly.

She needs guns more than words, and far more than a solitary man, although I feel for Qanam here.

Brother Qanam, if your heart urges you to this task, I cannot gainsay you. Go with our blessings, and may the unrighteous fall before you.

This update was incredible. Like watching doom in slow motion, a bullet slowly carving its way through air as thick as wood towards thesomeone's throat.

Absolutely incredible.

Now, to get my Shevah-headband on:

[X] Allow Rector Qanam to go and help Vashti in the field as an agent of the sect and schism [Lose Qanam as a sage but gain him as an ally].

"My Sisters and Brothers," Shevah says, and you see the gunpowder-marks on her cheeks stained by tears, tears of joy at having seen the Six-Shin-Aluf fly in Nachivan itself, tears of joy at having seen the Scourge confront the apostates of the Sword-Altar Banner with backs unbent, tears of joy at another sister liberating not just herself but tens of thousands from tyranny at the Ischak. "What a day! What a week! What a month! Joy of joys, glory of glories!"

She bites her knuckles, to stifle the emotion surging within her heart. "And yet, what a conundrum we face. Brother Qanam, that surging joy in your heart, the certainty of knowing you have been called by God onto a path, I too have felt it - for it is what I have felt when I swore my vows of the Covenant on the rifle."

Shevah, her headband dusty from the march, peeking out under her flat cap, looks at all of you. "I say this: She has the richest Banner's machine-guns and rifles and powder and baggage-train. Guns she can always use more of, but she is well-supplied to entrench her lands to make even the circles of apostate Jurors around her bleed such that it would form a second flood to pay off their sins. No, I would say this: Let our Brother go. For all that there is no other such as in him in the Sect who wields the pen and knows the print and has fervour such as he, who would be missed in all these aspects so sorely as he, it is for all these reasons that I say let him go, for his heart burns with all the righteous fire that was set in our hearts. A sect as small as ours, with coffers as, if you will forgive me, as small as ours? What arms could we afford for an army of at least thirty thousand that would make much of a difference, when we all know how much of a difference the power of faith makes?"

(After all: it will not start with a hundred, but with one.)

...On the one hand, with so many obstacles already presented to them, it is no surprise that venerable body failed so abruptly. To move away from the plateau may present problems.

On the other hand, the harvest comes, and even the most pious man can go but so long without food. That, is a reality that cannot be broken, and frankly, I see little reason why the Angel of the Ischak cannot remain where she is, and reap the Jurors as they come for her.

Brothers and sisters of salvation, my righteous kin in the spirit, know this: I believe one man, in the right place at the right time as ordained by God, can move mountains. I believe that Rector Qanam is that man; and in any case, even if I am wrong I think too that it would be both cruel and pointless to forbid him to go.

...
I am torn, brothers and sisters.

I was thinking that smuggling, to ensure that we can be armed for the future, would have been the wisest course but...
I look at our numbers, and I see the limitations. We are devoted, but we are few, and that binds our ability to act.

But Qanam, while a loss to us, would be an assistance in his own right, worth the resources we could send but...
At the same time, the lands are harsh to outsiders, even seasoned soldiers. And the Jurors bloodied by conflict are out at the borders, which means it will be some time before they can be drawn in to deal with Ischak.

In short, I believe they will have time to establish themselves, time to learn the rites of war, and secure their strength, even without Qanam's aid. And if we do not send him, but supplies, we can learn more of how to move undetected, and materiel also, which could be useful for the cause going forward...

OOC question @Cetashwayo , but as I recall Qanam's military experience is in the last war with the Great Western Witch Coven, while Akov is a veteran of the war with the Mare?

If so, Qanam's experience may be seen in universe as less valuable than Akov's; being older in a rapidly changing time and fought against what is likely perceived nowadays as a strictly inferior enemy. Strictly on those terms, Qanam may be considerably useful to the Metamoa-bearers without divesting our sect of essential skills.

We're considering sending Qanam specifically because he really, really wants to go. Akov may or may not have more useful skills for Metamoa than Qanam but his heart wouldn't quite be in it, you know?

Friends. I am a Pugilist. I believe in the internal war against the five evils, the communion of all souls, and the way of our blessed guide the Pasan Ghadi.

I say: Let the man go.

The people of the Ischak are armed and tested by battle. Their cause is just and broadly supported. I am no strategist - but I have assessed the situation on the Plateau to the best of my limited abilities, and I believe that no man in creation wields the power to crush this rebellion. For all their best intentions, the Sanhedron's peace is not God's peace. It will not hold. Other Standards will come to scatter their armies and destroy their villages, but unless the Lord grinds the very mountains to dust under his heel, they shall fight on. As long as their resolve holds, they shall fight. Let the man go, so his fervor might stiffen them.

I know not where it is now - perhaps still in the war chest, perhaps in the hands of some smuggler or, Heaven forbid, a printer! - but a coin, a penny dirham, was in our possession. A gift from this new messenger of Heaven, this latter-day Vashti. Forgive my idolatry, but I wish I knew which it was so I might preserve it. It is a symbol of a connection, a communion between warriors in the faith. This Vashti saw something in our insolent Qanam, and her good nature might lead her to forgivable foolishness, trusting a fool such as he. We must take advantage of this. Use this connection to pass intelligence to Metamoa and coordinate our efforts. Let the man go, so we might act in communion with our friends.

I wish that I could go. This is the war - this is the battle! The Pasan Ghadi's banners are called to level the haughty and protect the meek. My innermost self burns to take up the rifle again, to truly live again - but I am needed here. God's gift of reason quells my self-serving desire. I will not go to Ischak and burden the warriors of the apocalypse. But Qanam - Qanam and his cadre will not be a burden. It is true, this Vashti knows how to lead an army, but her soldiers do not know how to fight! Training is needed, and trainers. Let them go, so they may teach them of war. Let the man fight.

Damn me, despite his best efforts I shall miss Qanam. His unjust wit was more entertaining targeted at others than it was painful targeted at myself - although I was the target more often than I think fair. If we vote to send him away, I think I shall write at length about the man's sins and the gifts God worked through him. I do not think we shall see him again! Working thus, I shall get the last laugh before this Second Vashti triggers the Second Flood and washes all away.

(ooc: oh god oh fuck zeb discovered millenarianism he will be insufferable for either a couple years or like two weeks)

My siblings, let us sharpen ourselves as blades upon whetstone, that we should need holy rifles coming into the city, we should first start by sending arms to the desperate and deserving crusaders outside first.
