Gods.
Wishes given form by the collective faith of the masses. Through the invocation of the divine, humanity seeks to accomplish that which mortal hands cannot - the realisation of miracles.
And thus, the fulfilment of their hopes and dreams.
But for every wish, there exists also a curse.
A twisted product of hatred and malice, the distillation of mankind's self-destructive impulses.
And if a god is but a wish enfleshed, then so too can a curse bring forth higher powers.
Aramitama. The false gods.
Born of humanity's darkness, they exist solely to profane the bonds between gods and men, to spread ruin to all that they encounter. To prey on the innocent, corrupting even the purest desire and leaving nothing but tragedy in their wake.
For aeons, the Aramitama have lurked amongst humanity. For aeons, they have sought to drive humanity into despair, to consume their very souls, to steal away their lives and all that they hold dear.
All for the sake of a single, ultimate goal.
The destruction of the world.
Yet, humanity still lives.
Yet, the Aramitama remain hidden. Despite all their dark powers, the fiends and demons remain confined to the shadows, their hateful, corrupting influence barred from overwhelming the mortal realm.
Because in the end, the Aramitama are but mere gods.
And gods can be killed.

In this world, there exist those who have awakened to the power of the soul. Those who can accomplish deeds beyond the reach of any other mortal being. Whether through the exertion of great effort or a mere stroke of luck, their spirits have attuned to the very world itself, thus allowing them to draw upon and manipulate supernatural energies - a power that had once solely been a luxury of the gods.
And by stepping into the domain of the divine, they became targets. By unlocking the powers of the spirit, they incited the hunger of the Aramitama. In return for abilities that surpassed "common sense", these
Awakened became the most tempting of prey to the false gods.
For the sake of their survival, only one path lay ahead of them.
They would need to purge the Aramitama first.

Godhunters. The name borne by those who hunt gods.
Like the monsters they fight, they too dwell in the shadows of human society. On the surface, they seem no different from any other individual living a simple, mortal life, but when the time comes, they take up arms and unleash their powers (whether it be incredible strength, strange magicks, or even bizarre creations) against the Aramitama to protect that which they love.
The powers and ambitions of every Godhunter - and the organisations to which they belong - can vary drastically. But they are united in their desire to see the Aramitama extinguished entirely from the world, to achieve salvation from the predations of the false gods.
And maybe, possibly, join with the divine themselves.
