People often cite wanderlust, adventure; a lack of critical experience to be their folly in life.

The desire to visit Paris at least once on a romantic evening, and see the bright-lit Eiffel Tower against a midnight-blue backdrop. For others, this desire is simpler yet; to know the world beneath the world, to see what lands far away have to offer; to explore the Japanese countryside, or a rural village in Ireland.

For some, none of that is enough. For some, that will never be enough.

Embark on an adventure across a world that challenges wanderlust, and meets an adventurer's kindling desire for exploration and novelty by meeting it with an endless, endlessly diverse assortment of places. There are only some you can choose: a slice of the universe's pie to cut out for your own taking, but that slice will forever be the journey of a lifetime.

It will be, in other words, a journey in a land of fulfilled fantasy.

Prelude: A Wonderland's Truth

For the longest time, many people have made the assumption that everything we can see is everything there is. The assumption, although presumptuous, can't really be called arrogant - what else could there be? To presume, and then to maintain the presumption, is even more arrogant than to be absent of it.

It doesn't matter in the end, because the assumption is wrong.

Before us is a multifold existence. A dazzling kaleidoscope of a billion universes pouring out in a circuitous route. Endless places, with endless happenings. A thousand years might be granted for exploration, and remittance from ever wasting time on sleeping, eating, defecating, and other mortal actions, and one wouldn't even be a step closer to seeing it all. It was the truth of never-ending experience: a font of the beginning, and the end that would never arrive.

But travel options are always limited in the multiverse, and in this case, it started not with a bang, but with a simple question:

"Have you ever read Alice in Wonderland?"

That was the question of the man in strange clothing.

'Strange clothing' was maybe too kind of a descriptor. It was weird, full stop. The apparel of a man who wanted people to run away from him, or at the least, shyly back away into the edge of the room; giving him wide berth, and perhaps an even wider look of bewilderment.

The individual in question was dressed in some imponderable mixture of a silvery-gray cloak, shaking in an unearthly wind that came from nowhere and went nowhere, dark chainmail armor studded with medallions from red glass in the shape of gem cuts, and a red hood that probably would've been enough to make his face half-invisible, if he didn't bother wearing the steel mask: a mask depicting a frowning man, with deep lines drawn into it, almost like a drama mask. His legs? It would be next to impossible to infer what was on them: the gray cloak enshrouded them in enough penumbra to make the task of perception impossible, despite its constant wormlike swaying.

He was a man, clearly sheathed in penumbral concealment, and yet dressed so obliquely to the task of hiding that he might as well have worn a pink tutu and gossamer fairy wings and waved around a pearlescent wand with a tip in the shape of a star, leaving behind glitter trails in the air. Some kinder individuals might call it hiding in plain sight, or wanting to conceal something less obvious to the eyes, but most could only focus on the ridiculous outfit.

And he was asking this question of you.

Character Creation [1]

Welcome to Journey In Fantasyland.

This Quest will be something of a warm-up for me. I've not written any Quests in a long while.

Journey In Fantasyland takes place in a fully original setting. In terms of inspiration, I would say it's... about 20% inspired by a web serial called Worth the Candle by Alexander Wales, and 30% by old ideas, and 50% fresh ones. I've tried to use this setting once before, but for reasons unrelated to time or interest, I had to stop. In this story, you will travel - willingly - to another universe, in search of adventure.

The first ten-or-so chapters will be devoted to the tutorial and character creation. Although this Quest will not use any strict rolls or statistics aside from situations where I am not certain of the outcome, there are power levels, and the right training, study, and backstory can and will influence victory in combat, diplomacy, deception, and other domains.

The basic information of our protagonist. As it is, the votes should be formatted by plan.

[] Name [write-in]
[] Gender [write-in]
[] Age [16-29]
[] Laconic Biography [write-in]

What sort of person is actually happy to end up in an extremely dangerous universe where they face death on a semi-daily basis? An extremely unhealthy one. Either distortion of the heart or unwillingness; there are no other means to throw away your life in exchange for a new, alien one. There must be some kind of driving force behind those manic actions, and the acceptance of travel to another universe.

[] Distortion Event [write-in]

And the protagonist's answer, to the odd man's question:

[] "Um. Are you talking to me?"
[] "Only the old Disney one."
[] "Who are you?"
[] Write-in.

What is meant by distortion event? Is it just what makes the character the sort to take a weird man's offer to go to a deathworld or does it have some other purpose?
