In celebration of Doom's 25th anniversary, one of its co-creators has announced a new level pack for the seminal first-person shooter (via Polygon). Sigil, which takes place after the events of Doom's fourth episode, will be released as a free download in February and features nine single-player and nine multiplayer levels. Two limited edition fan boxes with collectible extras will also be available to purchase.

Hell yeah! I can't wait for this one.

John Romero is still making games?

Also, who still has the original 1993 version of doom to play it on?

On one hand it's fitting that he's making it for the 1993 version, but on the other I'd be interested in seeing what he can do with all the extensions from Boom/GZDoom etc.

The original games (emulated in DOSBox) are still available on Steam and GOG.com. In fact, this is my preferred method of playing them.

And I think it's time we moved on and forgave Romero for Daikatana. That was 18 years ago; I'm quite certain he knows what an abject failure it was.

i'm legitimately asking if hes actually made any other games in the last 18 years.

As far as I can remember, he slunk off after Daikatana and only popped up again a few years ago trying to kickstarter a new game with Carmack that never got funded. I know Ion Storm made the original Deus Ex, but I can't remember if he was attached to that.

He had a mobile games company for a few years, IIRC.

He made mobile games afterwards and this is hardly the first time in the last few years he's made Doom maps. He hasn't made an entire episode but he has made maps for it (and they were pretty good IIRC .

And as mentioned above, he knows what a disaster Daikatana was.

There are numerous modern source ports one can use to play Doom, as long as you have the original IWAD files. The most common ones in use right now are GZDoom and Zandronum.

As for games John Romero helped develop, he was involved in 2005's Area 51 (the FPS, not the light gun game). Which was pretty decent if not particularly memorable. He also helped his 9-year old son develop Gunman Taco Truck, a game where you play a taco truck operator in the post-apocalypse. No, really.
