The sky.

The sky above our heads was bleeding.

The endless blue you cherished so much, the white clouds that always reminded you of sheep, the ever-present sun and the peaceful moon were now replaced with complete darkness. It was not the kind of darkness we were so used to – not merely an absence of light – but something that maliciously devoured everything you held dear.

Yet, you smiled.

The earth.

The earth below our feet was bleeding.

The mountains you wanted to conquer one day, the valleys you wanted to visit one day, the forests, the deserts, the glaciers you saw on pictures were now replaced with complete darkness. It was not the kind of darkness we were used to – not merely something that existed within the natural order of things – but something that perverted everything you wanted to discover.

Yet, you smiled.

The people.

The people we created were no more.

Those tiny, insignificant creatures you could not understand. You loved them all because you could not realize their future. They loved you because you loved them unconditionally. They were devoured as well.

Yet, you smiled…

To the end, you smiled…

White.

White ceiling. White walls. White floor. White bedsheets. White clothes.

White.

In my world, no other colors existed. All I remembered was colored white.

In this tiny room, nothing happened. At least, I didn't remember anything happening.

I ate, I slept and I ate again. A constant repetition of the same things I did the day before.

I never felt like a prisoner since I never knew the concept of freedom in the first place. An illusion.

I was a prisoner – or even a lab rat of sorts – whose every movement was carefully examined. A fact.

Yet, like all things in existence, this too came to an end.

One day, the white wall of my room opened, and a woman came inside.

She was a human like me. I knew that instinctively. Even if I had no memories as a person, I had my memories as a human.

A being naturally recognizes a similar being.

Still, even if she was a fellow human, the woman that came inside was different. I didn't knew that at the time, but my perception of what a human was still wrong. Humans were full of colors, but the way I pictured them was completely monochrome.

The humans I knew were different from the humans she knew.

Different, but similar.

"Hello," she said warmly. Instinctively, I understood the meaning of her words.

She sat down on my bed. For a moment, I thought she was far larger than an ordinary human, but soon I understood she was completely normal. I was the small one here.

"Are you feeling fine?" the woman asked.

Apparently, whether I felt fine or not was of no importance to her, since almost instantly she pulled out tiny mirror out of her lab coat and showed it to me.

"Just a quick question: are you a girl or a boy?"

[] "I'm a boy."

[] "I'm a girl."

[] "I don't know."
