I really want to see Hestia lecturing Scion about proper childcare now. Just the scene would be hilarious, and given his purposelessness be might actually listen! Actually, that could be a good story in its own right, Scion (or both Entities) getting competent instructions in how to raise offspring to be more successful than them. It fits their goals, and the ways they'd interpret the advice could be hilarious! Or horrifying, but Worm doesn't really need help on that front.

... It's worth noting that "competent instructions in how to raise offspring" in this case are hideously and insanely incorrect for Shards. You can't be successful in using k-selective childrearing with r-selective species: that's a guaranteed recipe for extinction.

Scion would just quirk his head at her and then fly silently on while ignoring all future input from the overly enthusiastic idiot.

So the Greek Fates are majorly overworked. But what about the Norse Norns? They seem functionally identical, but this being Danmachi I expect they exist in parallel anyway. Could the Norns not cover for the Fates for a while, or vice versa?

Granted the added workload would be its own special kind of hell, but they'd eventually be able to trade off.

Also, why was Hades blamed for the zombies? It could've been Hel or Set or something. Or did everyone just know the problem was coming from the Greek pantheon?

The Norns don't have all that weaving and cutting to do. They just sit around a well cackling, IIRC.

Also -- when were there zombies?

I've noticed that you use "Provided, " in this chapter and, I think, once before. It might just be me but "Granted, " seems like it would read better.

Awesome chapter as usual.

Hmm, guess I need to brush up on my mythology lore. Could've sworn the Fates and Norns were almost carbon copies of each other for some reason.

As for zombies, right here:

"Of course they did, the bastards," the Fate mumbled. "Everyone got to look forward to vacation, but we didn't. Tried taking days off and came back to great big knots and walking corpses spewing corrupted magic everywhere. Everyone blamed poor little Hades, but it was us. That was the last party we attended for over six hundred years."

Granted that could be any kind of undead. Ghouls, revenants, vampires, whatever. I just assumed they were zombies though.

Fair. Forgot about that. Probably just ethnocentrism. Also. Hades was the easiest to blame out of that group since he's the least likely to punch you in the dick over it.

Is this..something in the Danmachi canon that I'm not aware of?

What handling of Cerberus?
Earlier in this fic, Hestia made a comparison between QA and Hades based on their pets. Basically, Hades insists Cerberus is a good dog. Everyone else knows him as an overly aggressive hellbeast who doesn't understand that the people (gods) he's gnawing on are immortal.

Also I guess their naming logic is similar? Good names for good bois (who are not actually all that good).

Isn't Cerberus translated into english mean Spot?
Yes and no. There isn't a direct translation for it that we know of, unfortunately, but there are several root words or phrases it could have come from. Some translations are much more befitting of the guardian of Tartarus, but the internet and popular culture kind of snagged on "Spotted One" and ran with it. Like Hagrid calling his cerberus "Fluffy."

We know. Reportedly, gods didn't actually die when their bodies were killed; they only returned to a place called "Heaven." If Hestia was actually sent there, QA and Host would just need to find a way to break in and retrieve the goddess. Queen Administrator couldn't imagine it being disqualifyingly difficult.
Knowing how Shards work, this could be very doable. :whistle2:

I second/third/fourth/whatever the point that QA being willing to tear down the heavens to get Hestia back is adorable. If Hestia knew that, she'd probably squee over her kids (again) while mildly admonishing them to try not to do any unnecessary damage in the process.

"Acknowledged"

"Oh, good, Administrator, you saw reason... waitthatwastooeasy."

"Hestia specified no unnecessary damage. She specified nothing about optimal damaging events."

Moving on: It looks like the next chapter will finally show the Friends in the Dungeon. There might be a Freya interlude either before or after that, though.

EDIT: Just encounter rolls~
Oh boy, two high 90s, depending on what kind of encounter tables you're using that has potential to be A Thing.
