AN: Another plot bunny wouldn't stop bugging me. Just a heads up, I'm gonna try and update one of my other stories after this first chapter is posted, then update this until my muse burns out.

Top Secret Facility, Atlas Mountains
The various personnel scrambled about, trying desperately to run damage control. Firefighting teams moved around, extinguishing the blazes plaguing the base, while security personnel darted about, trying to determine who had caused the devastation. Overhead, several women flew in the mighty IS armors, trying to see where the saboteurs had escaped to. Even if the saboteurs had managed to steal the new prototype suits, they'd never be able to use them to defeat the weapon that had rendered modern conflict obsolete.
But despite their best efforts, the terrorists would never figure out who had busted their base...or how they had left.

Standing atop a train slowly winding through the mountains, a strange figure watched as the IS suits flew away. The figure's body was covered by a strange, carapace like black armor, with the monotony broken up by golden armor, including adornments around the head, which otherwise was dominated by a strange looking horn of sorts.
Once they were confident the terrorists would not notice their escape, the figure descended the ladder, taking them into the cargo car. Filling the interior were pods of sorts, each containing an armored figure. One in particular was being watched by a strange, birdlike entity...although many would note that it looked more like a bird's skeleton.
The birdlike-figure looked over the pod for a moment more before finally noticing the armored figure. When it did, it moved to stand fully before looking the armored one as close to eye-to-eye as either could manage.
"So," it said in a masculine tone, "are we being tailed?"
"No," replied the armored one, in a voice that sounded more like it was suited to a boy. "For now, they don't know how they got out. Where's Natah?"
"My sister? Looking over the younger ones alongside your teacher for battle. How long before we reach the hangar?"
"Thirty five minutes, assuming they don't figure out we're here."
"I see. Do you think we'll have trouble escaping if they do notice us?"
The armored figure tilted his head. "I think we'd cut through them even faster than a hot knife through butter."
"Excellent. And remember, disable the anti-air defenses first. Then my father and mother can send in reinforcements to clear a path."
"Of course...And thanks for helping us break out."
The skeletal being placed a hand on the armored figure's shoulder. "We are all just disposable pawns to Phantom Task. It's only logical to band together to find freedom...and also, thank you for all you've done for my sister."
"...You're welcome."

Fourty five minutes later, a nearby hangar reported an emergency, but they were overwhelmed before help could arrive. A fleet of aircraft evacuated the hangar, soon darting beyond pursuit range, to the immense anger of the Phantom Task forces who responded to the alert.
Aboard one such vessel was a boy, who looked over the armored figure, now resting limply in some kind of armature.
"Hey, kid, you there?"
Turning around, the boy focused his vision on a nearby screen, where the face of a man could be observed. The man's appearance was so similar to the boy's that one could easily mistake them for father and son, though their true relationship was...far more complex.
"Yeah, I am."
"Good. I take it the breakout was a success?"
"Yeah, it was. Ordis is setting coordinates now, see how long our flight will take."
"Nice. Have to ask, though, you sure you want to go through with this? No one would blame you for not wanting to go back."
"...She spent years looking for me. She only stopped because she had others to care for. I'm not letting her live her life wondering what happened to me...to us."
The figure in the screen smiled at this. "I thought you'd do that. But I do have to ask, what next? What will you do once you've settled things with her?"
"We broke out of one facility and took out one of their projects. Those phantoms still have plenty of other things up their sleeves that we need to deal with."
"Thought so. Look, I'll help you out when I can, but I have my own fights to finish. But don't you give up. You've come this far, you can't stop now."
"That is...a very sappy response. But I appreciate it."
"Thanks. And one more thing?"
"Yeah?"
"Since you've got the chance, live a little. You've still got your life ahead of you, don't waste it fighting."
"...Thanks for the advice."
"You're welcome. And good luck, kid."

The boy smiled as the caculations were completed and the time to arrival given. True, they were long, but Ordis wanted to take the scenic route and give the boy enough time to rest. After that crazy breakout, some R&R was needed.
Making his way to a small bed, the boy crawled in and pulled up the covers. He paid no mind to the sound of the engines, or the nearby tapping, or the strange figure sitting on a nearby crate, giving him an unnerving grin.
There would be challenges in the future to face - he'd been gone for years, his captors wanted him back, and that didn't even include the other horrors that were now part of his life - but the boy didn't care. He'd helped his friends conquer one set of obstacles, so why not another?
As the ship headed toward Japan, to the one place in the world where people trained to use the Infinite Stratos, the boy peacefully fell asleep, content with one fact: that after years being seperated, he, Ichika Orimura, would finally get to see his sister again.
