Let's say by an act of R.O.B the imperium of man during the 41st Millennium finds our world and the various factions of the imperium try out our video games now then here are the rules

1: the 40k knowledge that we have doesn't exist so we don't know about the galaxy at large

2: the imperium doesn't believe that this is earth and right it off as a dark age experiment (before you ask we're located in segmentum tempestus and lets say for the sake of the argument that we join peacefully)

3: earth can't be purged in any way shape or form I know you love to explore the possibilities but but lets role with it for the sake of the argument

4: no news,politics, self promotion,derailment or escalation, etc

5: comment on what you think will happen

Space Marines sneer at the weakling Tau and how they struggle.

Then they see a Tau get a hold of a SM bolter.

The company gets purged.
 
Burnout series.

The entire White scars chapter and their successors become addicted to them and stop any sort of military actions.

40k lore doesn't exist neither does games work shop aka the 40k games don't exist next time please read the rules
 
The Mechanicus in general become wildly addicted to VNs. Some time later, after the uncontrollable urge to raise flags has caused the destruction of an entire galactic sector, they're ruled as a class of memetic virus by the inquisition.

Unfortunately, attempts to surpress usage and wean the cogfolk off the addiction go... poorly. Within a millennium the ensuing civil war leads to the downfall of the imperium; shortly thereafter goes most of the human race outside chaos cultists and pockets of tau converts. Eventually the galaxy is wiped clean of everything except warring chaos bands, roving necron fleets, 'nid splinters, and utterly euphoric ork waaaghs, meager remnants of tau and eldar abandoning the place entirely.
