I don't know if I'd call it the weakest Paradox game. Definitely weak in terms of actual content it has, but in terms of actually representing its period accurately, I'd put it on approximately the same level as EU4 and somewhat better at the early date.

But it still needs a lot of content, holy shit.

I am not sure what mix of factors is the exact reason but I never really experienced the type of narrative rich experience that I had with pretty much any other Paradox strategy title or even less related games like the Total War series. Which is strange since I love the era and its characters and I don't think that the other games had that much more events etc. but it just doesn't seem to fuel my imagination to the same degree the other games to do over hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Has the same problems as eu4 to, namely the points system. And unlike ue4, IR didn't have a run of good games by paradox to give it some momentum (oppset really given how bad a reception hoi4 got). Seriously most people dint like the points system in the well regarded eu4 is it any surprise that it finally bit paradox in the ass. Maby now there have to come up with something better, It would be halerius if eu5 (sense where not getting a new IR game in 20 years if eu rome is any indication) whent back to the slider system they so paned from eu3.

The mana points system hasn't eisted in Imperator: Rome for a year. If you want to criticize the game, that's fair because there's a lot to criticize, but please do so for things that are actually current to it.

I haven't played the game in a year they a actually got reed of it! Still dosnt change the fact that this game got paned then forgotten by the vast majority of paradox fans and there for paradox isn't going going to make a new one in a long time but this plus how desint ck3 was and I actually have hope that paradox can get better and there new titles won't be complete dumpsterfiers in the future! This is a dangerous thing you have given me, hope.
Maby al actually go back and play it again.
Still dosnt excuses the fact they keeped the mana system after eu4 or the fact that I tried to wate a year hoping agenst hope that this game could get better before giving up on it but hey this is more then I had hoped for.

I agree! The mana system was terrible and it was extremely panned. They got rid of it in one of the first series of reforms and have been improving the game ever since, and it's honestly a shame because the game now is pretty great - definitely a more rewarding game loop than EU4 for sure - but is comparatively empty relative to how good it could be if it had been released like this. Regardless, they're soon doing what is effectively a rerelease of the game under Imperator 2.0 (the Marius update), which will feature completely revamped armies, technology, empire-building, UI and an import of several CK3 mechanics. I would definitely encourage you to take a look at some of the more recent development diaries and try it out when 2.0 is released.

To add to that, Imperator this past year has had patches attempt to address specific areas of the game that were considered lacking at launch. In spring this year was a religion rework, allowing you to select pantheon deities on the basis of the religions present in your empire, and build holy sites to those deities.

Then came a culture rework, which tried to address how most empires inevitably trended towards monocultures leading to such charming developments like all of the eastern Mediterranean being Macedonian 200 years in. It gave you the ability to select which cultures were considered 'integrated' and 'accepted' in your empire.

2.0 has already been outlined by Cheh.

Alongside all that are DLCs that, for the most part, give mission trees and cosmetics to specific countries. So Sicily, Athens and Sparta got a touch-up in that manner, and the upcoming 2.0 patch will launch alongside an Heirs of Alexander dlc focused on the Diadoch polities.
