You node at his question. He once again leans back, putting his hands together with his fingertips touching there apposing fingertip. He stares at you for a few seconds, before speaking again.
I, for one, love the direction this quest is going. After all, life doesn't have a plot line, it is combination of your choices and your luck. Also, it's a big fuck-you to the canon predetermined destiny bullshit.
As said before, the plot back at Hogwarts is simply what I'm more interested in, despite that vote having little chance of winning at this point. Though I'd be up for changing our minds and running away to the Necromancers in a couple of months if the alienation gets strong enough at that point.
I mean, being a disturbed outsider just isn't the same if everyone around you is exactly like you. [/Hipster]
I say stay here for year one- we will be learning most of the same stuff for year one, and Necropolis is better equipped to help us with our demon magic- and then maybe go to Hogwarts for year two. Get some of our magic (and maybe social) issues sorted out in what's probably a better environment, and then perhaps give Hogwarts a second chance.
@WastingPixies, an OOC question I can't help asking; Was all this planned, or was it all based on rolls? Because honestly, it's rather jarring.
I came into this quest hoping for the plot that's been happening until now (a disturbed outsider who doesn't fit in trying to get by at Hogwarts), and, OOC, would like to get back to that, but as has been said, IC we have a lot more reason to stay here.
And Story-wise, this is also timed somewhat unfortunately; It'd have been better, I feel, if either this had happened earlier, without spending as much time setting up plot hooks and foreshadowing at Hogwarts, or later, as part of a more prolonged arc of us trying and failing to fit in, before turning our back on Hogwarts entirely when we grow completely tired and upset at it.
If I recall correctly, you lot Crit failed your Social Interaction Roll, then Nat20d The Accidental Magic roll, and then rolled the Necropolis on a table of places you could have crashed into.
Which is basically how the rolls this quest has had since the beginning.
You guys seem to simulatenously have Potter Luck, Parker Luck, Senju Gambling Luck, and Naruto's Luck.
It is silly. And Hilarious to someone on the outside.
[X] OBVIOUSLY WE SHOULD SINK ALL OF HOGWARTS TO THE NECROPOLIS. THAT WAY WE CAN HAVE ALL THE CLASSES
I will be honest, a lot of this is based on rolls. I've been having a lot of trouble writing this quest, do the utterly insane rolls I've had. Just ask Lunaryon, I've been complaining to her at work and whenever I'm over at her house about how nuts this is going. A lot of plot points that I set up to happen throughout multiple years, all kind of happened at once. I've been using less rolls to try and counter balance that, but this happed when I ended up actually doing a roll.
This entire area was something that I wasn't sure you would ever see in this quest, something I had in my expanded version of the HP universe for a quest that I never got of the ground. I tend to keep a lot of things in my stories that I developed in other things, they just all happen back stage. Everything that happens here would still be happening if you weren't here, which I find to be rather realistic.
So no, this was not planed. Though I think that this could be rather fun and interesting.
A piece of advice - roll less. In fact, you could just stop rolling altogether if you would prefer. It's perfectly viable, and in some cases preferable, to not have the story be at the whims of the dice gods. For instance, the results of social interactions being random make little sense. A good writer can take the characters involved and the approach given by the players in a vote, and then come up with a result that makes sense based on that. No rolls needed. Make things more about the consequences of player choices, not about some random thing that shows up out of nowhere due to a roll.
For example, this current thing - you didn't need to roll for what happened with accidental magic for the choice to shut down and leave. You could have picked out in advance what you wanted to happen with that choice, rather than sending us to the Necropolis due to a high roll since you didn't know what else to do with a high roll. You're the writer. Just make sure to present options that you would be fine with writing, and you'll be fine.
After giving the Headmaster a few questions, you thought on if you wanted to stay. The more you thought about it, the more you realized that you would rather stay here then go back to The Old Monster. Reaching forwards you grabbed the registration forms, before starting to look through them. You signed in all of the required places, stating that you wouldn't reveal security to outsiders and that you would share all the ground-breaking research you may ever have with the staff so it can be taught to students advanced enough to understand it. "I wonder if we will ever do something like that."
Eventually you got to the page for class selection, there were a few required classes on the list but a lot of them were simply choices. The pages also stated that you were responsible for getting yourself to class, and that the teachers were not obligated to make sure that you were in class. The required classes were: Battle Magic, Magical Theory, and Potions. Every other class was optional, giving you a lot more freedom to chose what you want to learn. You could see things on the list of classes that you didn't think would ever be allowed at Hogwarts. "String Theory? What's that?"
Eventually finishing your schedule, you flipped through the rest of the forms. Handing the pages back to the Headmaster he told you that you would be put in room #1231 in the student apartments. As he was handing you a key there was a knock on the door to the office. You watched as the Headmaster called in the man who entered.
"Ah, Professor Shadecuter, your timing is perfect. This is the student that I called you here to collect, would you mind taking her to her new apartment. She will be in room #1231."
You saw the skeletal man take a bow, before speaking back to the headmaster. "Do you think he's missing any ribs?"
"Of course my lord, come Ms..." "If he's a teacher, he probably added any he was missing."
Making a snap decision, you decided you would just give him your name. You had already put everything down in the forms and if he was a Professor, it wasn't like he wouldn't be aware of your name.
"Potter."
"Very well Ms. Potter. Please follow me, it's quite a ways from the Headmaster's office."
With that you left the office behind, starting your new life as a student at Necropolis. The thought was rather happy for some reason. It took you a while to think of it, but you think you know why. People don't care here. So what if you're a child that was possessed by a demon, the teachers are skeletons! You just get the feeling that this is a place that people won't try and force you to become some kind of saint, trying to make your suffering into some kind of glorious story of valor. "The Hogwarts students were really mean."
With your mood brightened, you continued on your way, following Professor Shadecuter. You looked around the city that you were walking through, when you realized that you never got the Headmaster's name. Turning to the Professor, you decided to ask.
"Professor, what is the Headmaster's name?" "Why, it's Headmaster. What do you think it would be?"
The skeleton looked at you for a moment, as you continued to walk down the streets. He brought up a hand and tapped his jaw, while his other hand was supporting his elbow. He looked like he was thinking, which looked a little strange on him. He just had this air that made him feel like he would know things.
"The Headmaster's name is something that most people don't know. He has grown so old that most people he knew before he was the Headmaster have died. What is known about him is that he caries a great many titles, not unlike Headmaster Dumbledore. He is the carrier of The crown of Bones, and he carries the Staff of skulls. But to many here, and most necromancers, he is simply The King of Worms." "Ok, that's a scary name."
That title, something about it made the hairs on the back of your neck rise up. You didn't know what it was about his title, but it made you worry about what kind of power he could have, as his title just resonated with it! You had not heard The Old Monster having a title such as that, but you never learned all of his titles.
You were pulled away from your thoughts when Professor Shadecuter started to point out some of the buildings in the area, mentioning where different classes were held and pointing out the food court. He also pointed to some of the useful shops that sold school supplies, places that you may need to visit eventually. On the way he also pointed out the local Gringotts branch, where you could pull some money out of your account. "Huh, guess we will never know what was taken to from Gringotts that day of the break-in."
The two of you eventually arrived at the apartment district of the city, where he lead you to what would be your room. Using the key that you were given you stepped into your apartment. The place was rather bare, with a small kitchen connected to the Lounge. With two doors off, you found that one connected to a bedroom and the other to a bathroom. In the bedroom you saw there was a set of basic lose cloths beside a long black coat with a red symbol on the back.
It took you a second to recognize it as the same symbol on the front of the Headmaster's desk, there was just not as much stuff cluttered around it as there was on the desk.
"That is the only thing that is required as a school uniform. Do not lose it, or you will be required to buy another. Your trunk full of things should be retrieved from Hogwarts in the morning. Now, if you do not mind, I have classes to teach. So I shall be on my way. Welcome to Necropolis, Ms. Potter."
You watched as the professor left, once he was gone you started to slip out of your Hogwarts uniform and switched into the other pair of clothes. Looking over the outfit, you came to the realization that these cloths were a lot more practical then any of the robes you had to wear at Hogwarts. The least practical thing here was the long coat, but you figured that it wouldn't take too long before you got used to it and figured out how to make it work.
Your thoughts drifted to the classes that you chose, and what you would need to buy for your classes.
States lost!
Removed from Hogwarts!
Added to Necropolis!
School Symbol Gained

Choose where the classes you signed up for go onto the schedule. Keep in mind, the more free room that you have the more time you have to study and develop your magics. Also, keep in mind that some of the magics you have an affinity for. The magics you have affinities for will come easier to you then those that you don't. Remember that this is going to be a vote by plan, so try and work something you all like with this one.
IIRC Hogwarts has seven or eight classes for first years. We've got three slots already mandated.
I think we should definitely do these:
Herbology (for more help with potions)
Mind Magic
Demonology
Basic Demon Magic
And one of these:
Basic Curses (I find learning using a book by Voldemort ironic)
Basic Blood Magic
Basic Shadow Magic
Basic Spirit Magic
Illusions
Demonology could be taken next year, but I'm not sure that would be wise. Basic knowledge of which demons might be troublesome, and our prior possessor, is something we would find useful. Then again, it uses the same textbook as Demon Magic.
[X] Plan A Day For Every Focus
-[X] Mondays Are Fundamentals
--[X] Basic Math - Monday First
--[X] Basic Ritual Magic - Monday Second
-[X] Tuesdays Are For The Soul
--[X] Basic Healing Magic - Tuesday First
--[X] Mind Magic - Tuesday Second
--[X] Basic Spirit Magic - Tuesday Third
-[X] Wednesdays We Do Drugs
--[X] Basic Herbology - Wednesday First
--[X] Flying - Wednesday Third
-[X] Thursdays Are Demon Days
--[X] Demonology - Thursday First
--[X] Basic Demon Magic - Thursday Second
--[X] Basic Summoning - Thursday Third
-[X] Fridays Visit Wonderland
--[X] Basic Transfiguration - Friday First
--[X] Basic Mirror Magic - Friday Second
-[X] Weekends are free, as are the evening of each day.
Going to bed now, but if there's anything you want my attention for, tag me and I'll try to adjust before work in the morning.
Mannimarco? TES King of Worms? That's one powerful necromancer indeed!
Demonology, demon magic and dark magic would be a must with the affinities we have.
Ok, here's my plan. It's a bit more aggressive, but still leaves plenty of free time.
[X] Plan Play to Our Strengths
Alice has certain magics she's good at, and we should start with those before branching out too much. Anything outside of that should be essential.
-[X] Monday - The basics
--[X] First: Basic Math
--[X] Second: Basic Transfiguration
---[X] Arrive a bit early on the first day and quietly inform the teacher of your previous little accident that resulted in possession, so that he or she can ensure you don't make a similar mistake again.
--[X] Third: Magic Theory (LOCKED)
--[X] Fourth: FREE
Monday deals with basic things we have to know. Math, Transifguration (basic subject, in case we decide to go back to Hogwarts) Last period is free to do whatever.
Also, telling the teacher that our magic accidentally dropped a match onto a demon's head should ensure that they take the proper precautions.
-[X] Tuesday - Mind and Body
--[X] First: Basic Healing Magic
--[X] Second: Basic Blood Magic
--[X] Third: Mind Magic
--[X] Fourth: Basic Spirit Magic
Healing Magic and Blood Magic probably have some synergy. Mind magic is really important to keeping the content of our brains safe.
Herbology is needed for a budding potion brewer, as it helps with attaining ingredients. It's also a basic subject. (we might also consider corresponding with Professor Snape on the subject, as he's one of the people that Alice actually liked at Hogwarts)
Flying because we do need to know it, and I guess it counts as exercise of a sorts.
Last period is free to do whatever.
-[X] Thursday - Demons and things that lurk in dark corners.
--[X] First: Demonology
--[X] Second: Basic Demon Magic
--[X] Third: Basic Summoning
--[X] Fourth: Basic Shadow Magic
Thursdays are about the darker subjects regarding demons, and shadows, and summoning whatever else it is we need.
-[X] Friday - Learning from Tom Riddle, and how to kill him.
--[X] First: Free
--[X] Second: Basic Ritual Magic
--[X] Third: Basic Curses
--[X] Fourth: Battle Magic (LOCKED)
The books for Ritual Magic and Curses are both by Tom Riddle, aka Voldemort. We have an affinity for Dark Magic, so learning some Curses will be helpful. Curses and hexes and whatnot are a staple of battle magic, so it also synergizes. Not to mention that we're bound to run into trouble eventually, but not everything can be solved by burning it with demonfire.
Ritual magic sounds like it'd synergize well with all the demon stuff, too.
-[X] Weekends are free
Leave plenty of space for Alice to enjoy her weekends or just study.
So we have three days during the weekdays with a free period, and otherwise lots of classes. Aside from Illusions, this ensures Alice is learning everything that she actually has an affinity for as well as the basics. Classes on particular days generally synergize.
