I'm not sure how to phrase it, but wishing to be the most survive-y Magical Girl we can be seems like the best idea if we do it at all. Protecting ourself and others form witches is pretty much the only reason we'd have to do it, as noted in the reasoning included with the "refuse for now" vote, so wishing to have the best abilities for that end (defense, regen, ?) would fit.

Or maybe, a wish to be able to keep witches from forming? Stop the emotional energy they form from from accumulating in one place? Something like that.

Edit: Ooh, "I wish to be able to disperse concentrations of negative emotion before they create a witch"

Considering that Alivaril has specifically said that intent trumps wording for the wish if we make one, as long as the reasoning behind a particular wish is made clear I don't think there's that much probability of it being monkey's-pawed on us. In this case, the reasoning would be that the best way to protect people (including us) from witches is to keep witches from forming, though it might be wise to incldue something about being good at magical girling to deal with them when we don't get there in time to stop it, as well.

Doing some internet research or gaming while we think about it for a bit is still my vote for the update, though

That doesn't actually counter how I would have it, so... yeah.
 
How would a wish to keep witches forming even work? We're not at Madoka's power level so it won't just stop witches being a thing, but at the lower end wouldn't it end up being either targeted or AoE? In which case it's a bit pointless because it'd just stop other MGs from Witching out, but that still wouldn't fix the thing that caused them to get that griefed up in the first place. Or am I missing something?

A friendly reminder that you aren't Sabrina. Unlike her, your magical girl abilities will actually accumulate grief. Or more accurately, you won't be able to cleanse yourself of grief without it costing just as much, or more, grief.

That particular wish would let you cleanse people at range at the cost of darkening your own soul gem. Could be useful if they're in the middle of a spiral and refuse to hand their gem over or cleanse it themselves.

I don't know who Sabrina is, but if there's already a quest or fic with the MC doing that, it's better to come up with something different anyway.

Or just not become a Kyubey-contracted magical girl, since that is explicitly an option.

I'm not saying it won't work, just that I don't trust it.

and the thing is, that if you don't have grief building up in soul gems, it's dispersed into the environment. enough grief in the environment, and you get Wraiths. Wraiths aren't that much better than witches.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on with that second image but it looks like the ribbon is woven through her skin around the collar.

uugg, creepy. I just took a second look at it, that's not a ribbon, that's an IV tube draining blood either into or out of the staff. it's just braided to look like a ribbon, to better fit the MG image.
