Baldur’s Gate 3 developer is moving on from Dungeons and Dragons

Wizards of the Coast will have to take the reins from here.
... During a panel at the Game Developers Conference on Thursday, Larian founder Swen Vincke revealed that the studio plans on moving away from Dungeons & Dragons games, as first reported by IGN.

"We're not going to make new expansions, which everybody is expecting us to do. We're not going to make Baldur's Gate 4, which everybody is expecting us to do. We're going to move on," Vincke said.

... Vincke said the studio is going to let Dungeons & Dragons owner Wizards of the Coast handle it from here.

"It's going to be up to Wizards of the Coast, because it's their IP, to find somebody to take over the torch," Vincke said. "We think we did our job and so, for us, it's time to get a new puppy."

The studio will continue patching Baldur's Gate 3 for the time being and is still working on adding official mod support for the game on both PCs and consoles.

Most likely didn't agree with the profit split and didn't agree with how much creative freedom they have. Also the december firing of people didn't help.
Add to the fact Larian wanted to get their own IP and do their own game how they wanted.

Yeah at some point spending work on growing someone else's IP is not a great long term plan even if the IP's name let you have a big success.

For something to be cancelled it must first be planned.

People are going way too far into their mental fanfic of "this is totally what's happening" and then when it doesn't happen making up all sorts of nefarious schemes.

Oh no they've talked about how they had plans for DLC and it was in the concept stages. They just also followed up by saying that they cancelled it more because there was less enthusiasm for it than anything WotC related and that everyone's mood improved when they announced they'd be working on something new instead.

Nah hard disagree, people are reacting to the information available (which I will note included a rant from Larian's head about publisher greed) to make plausible speculation. It's not literally 100% confirmed but that would never happen, Larian is still a company and thus isn't going to publicly burn bridges whatever they might say behind closed doors but the evidence strongly points in a particular direction.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are other factors beyond Hasbro's shittiness such as Larian wanting to do something else but it's not people imagining things, the evidence is there if you want to recognize it.

Baldur’s Gate 3 mod support is coming in September

Mod support tools are being tested in a closed alpha starting now with a closed beta coming in July.
Larian Studios announced that official mod support will roll out in phases, starting today with a closed alpha, before a closed beta test in July, culminating with the official release of Patch 7 in September. According to Larian, the staggered testing phases will give the community ample time to test the new mod tools before making them available across PC and consoles.

...

Patch 7 isn't just introducing mod support tools. It'll also contain substantial content updates for the game, including improved evil endings, tons of small narrative additions (Wyll romancers, your time is coming), and bug fixes. Beyond Patch 7's release in September, Larian also said it plans on adding crossplay and photo mode.

Oh thank fuck they're specifically targeting Wyll for content, he's got a massive lack of it compared to the other companions.

And even if they don't include a level editor I expect the fanbase to cobble one together eventually.

Finished the game at last! Great ending, Karlach's scenes in particular really hit.

They do, in her good ending, I hope she'll be able to steal the blueprints for the improved artificial heart she alluded at during the party, and then Doomguy her way out of Hell while indulging her carnal urges as often as the subject of the average Frank Frazetta painting. :p

This game is still very relevant, even without any DLC incoming for it, so I just wanted to post here.
Question, does anyone have any unique, interesting builds? For example, I have made King Bowser in character creation.
A dragonborn, fighter/warlock/sorcerer build.

Beat the game for the first time.
Loved it, wished Karlach had gotten a better fate, only ran into one memorable bug when, during the end party, talking to Wyll got me Lae'zel's stuff about fighting on the Astral Plane. Final fight was a challenge in both phases, though the allies helped a lot with the first part. Especially Dame Alyin, who I really like a lot. Also, never recruited that little bloodsucking asshole, since he tried to cut my throat two seconds after saying hi. So long and I hope the goblins stake you, you little fuck. First time I've ever played a BG game and I can't really see myself trying the first two.
