Well.
The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed Hyrule Warrior's release date in Japan as August 14. Thanks to some users on NeoGAF, we now also know new details of the game itself, and its development.

Development and pricing

Firstly, we now know that Team Ninja are working with Omega Force on the game. Hisashi Koinuma and Yosuke Hayasahi are the producers, with Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma supervising.

Translators also salvaged some approximate prices for the game's releases in Japan (apparently the magazine wasn't too clear on these, so these may not end up being completely accurate). The retail version will be at least 7,000 yen, the eShop release at around 6,000 yen, and a "premium box" will be available for at least 10,000 yen. According to Ameblo, this premium box contains a Triforce-shaped tabletop clock and six serial codes for special costumes.

With development at 70% completion, the game has been confirmed as playable at E3.

Story, characters and gameplay

As for the plot? Link is a soldier-in-training tasked with rescuing Princess Zelda. Zelda has been kidnapped by an evil witch named Shia — who has been reportedly "turned evil", possibly suggesting she may not have been villainous at some point.

A two-player mode is included, with one player using the GamePad screen and the other using the TV. When playing alone, the GamePad acts as a menu. Different weapons can be equipped, each with varying speeds, strength and abilities. Weapons and characters can also be upgraded.

The Dynasty Warriors-style gameplay is combined with Zelda's traditional Z-targeting, enabling the player to easily avoid attacks and focus on the enemy's weak spots. Bombs won't just be used for use in combat — perhaps there'll be puzzles, or at least hidden areas behind cracked walls?

Impa is a playable character, captain of the Royal Army and wielder of a giant sword. No other playable characters have been confirmed yet, but Aonuma was "surprised" at how many have been included.
Link's traditional sword spin attack has been replaced with Dynasty Warriors' "Musou" attack.

Screenshots and artwork

There's your information fix, now to feast your eyes on some new images from Famitsu's website. These are mostly screenshots, with a new piece of artwork of Link.
Here's the man, with his fancy new scarf:

Here he is in what looks like a cutscene:

And in action:

Here is the evil witch Shia, a new character and villain:

And this appears to be one of her minions. Possibly a boss fight?

Finally, here's a photo of a double spread of the feature from the magazine from Otakomo. Looks like Impa appears on the right page:

Can't wait to see what comes out of E3 regarding this game. I hope they partially announce the character roster, and that Zelda herself will be playable at some point. Maybe as a bonus character for after you beat the game?

I've never been a big fan of the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Hack-and-slashes where you repetitively cut down enemies by the hundreds can only give me so much fun before it becomes tedious. That's right--the Dynasty Warriors franchise is able to make being the ultimate badass tedious.

I can't really be surprised considering the teams behind this game, but I still find myself disappointed in Shia's outfit. Or rather, the apparent lack thereof.

Plot reveal with screenshots
Looks at Shia character design. Sees Team Ninja tag.

Yes, exactly what the franchise needed. Boobs.
Heh, like this is a new thing.

Plot revealed-
The game's storyline revolves around Hyrule once again being besieged by evil forces, with Princess Zelda invariably ending up imprisoned and in need of rescuing. At the center of this trouble is Shia, a witch who was once tasked with maintaining the balance of the Triforce. Although once a good person, Shia came to harbor affections for a hero, which in turn transformed into jealousy towards Zelda for being able to be with him.
Eventually, Shia finds her mind hijacked by the thoughts of an evil being that was once sealed away, leading her to bring disaster to the kingdom. The hero she fell for, as it turns out, is Link, and she now stands in opposition to him with comrades Valga and Wiz at her side, setting into motion another conflict with Hyrule at its epicenter.

Heh, like this is a new thing.

At least she represents something other than "plastic real doll giggle physics emulator".

It's not like she's the first Zelda villain with a rack on her.

"They did a stupid thing before, lets do it again!"

I'll remind you all of the last time Team Ninja was handed a beloved Nintendo franchise where the early release artwork featured boobs:

Other M.

Most of Other M's issues largely stem from Nintendo anyway.

Impa looks like a stone cold badass in this game. Like move over other versions of Impa, this one is gonna buster blade your face.

So Shia's involved in "Keeping the balance between the Triforce."
For some reason, my brain's throwing up the possibility that she's actually Zelda.

When this was announced I didn't really expect it to have a story. That it does makes it less likely we'll get to control various characters from throughout Zelda history, but hopefully they'll find a good excuse to get around that.

I will be sorely disappointed if there isn't at least a scenario or two where we can play as Ganondorf and smash our way through the Hylian Guard.

I haven't really played any Dynasty Warrior games (well, I played a demo years ago, but I really don't remember anything about it), so, I don't know if that is something that I could reasonably expect or not.

See this is why no one should have the task of overseeing the artifact of your universes creation.

Reminds me of the wack o mole dragon.

Holy crap Impa has taken like a thousand levels in badassary.

As much as I liked the giant impractical spires and arches of Twilight Princess Hyrule Castle, this one is actually pretty nice.

I miss crone nanny Impa sometimes. I mean icelander power lifter kunoichi isn't wrong but I miss the nurse maid. and shia has nother on The great fairies or Twinrova of the impossible skeleton
Or the concept of the Gerudo

Something i noticed on some of these new pics is that links triforce glows when he uses his swordbeams or when he does big attacks and that shia's right hand glows in the same way in the pic below suggesting that she has one of the triforce pieces.
edit fixing the pics

Besides, Sheik and Zelda are probably going to be playable characters anyhow. It'd be a bit weird for Zelda to have a triple identity.
