Can you conquer Etheria? And earn Prime's love?

You are a defective clone of the eternal and perfect Horde Prime. As punishment for your imperfections he sent you to die in battle. But before you could fall in glorious service to the Horde, you crashed through a portal into a primitive, isolated world called Etheria.

This is your last chance.

Can you overcome your defects, conquer this wretched world for the Horde, and prove yourself worthy to continue living in service to Prime? Once you figure out how to leave this dimension.

Or will you succumb to impurity, betray everything you've ever known, and fight against Prime's glorious tyranny?

Either way, you have a long hard path ahead of you...

Introduction to a Clone

You're piloting a hollowed-out husk of a ship in an assault on a planet whose name you haven't bothered to learn. After all, there's no point in learning a name you won't live long enough to use.

Prime sent you to 'fight' in the initial wave with a ship that was stripped of its main gun, its crew, and every other even semi-valuable piece of equipment. All that remains are the few other tools not worth saving, including yourself. You are a decoy, and your greatest contribution to this battle will be to draw fire away from those worthy to continue serving Prime. You tell yourself to be grateful, that it is a privilege to die for Prime, that you are lucky to be allowed even-

The empty space before the ship cracks. Jagged purple lines splinter out from the epicenter, as some kind of purple circle expands until it dwarfs your entire ship. You have an instant to think, is that a portal? Then you're crashing into it.

A dozen alarms blare at once. Energy crackles along every surface of the ship, ripping through your body. Your world goes white, then black.

***

You wake up to find yourself collapsed on the floor of the ship's bridge, lit only by the flickering light of a half-broken terminal. You quickly realize three things:
  1. The terminal shows that the ship somehow crashed into a planet without killing you.
  2. You're too defective to even die properly.
  3. You are utterly, totally, horrifyingly alone.
For the first time in all six years' of your existence, you can't feel the Horde. You can't feel Prime! You've never had the honor of hosting his consciousness, but you've always felt at least a trace of him. Now, there's not even a hint of his attention pressing down upon your mind, caressing the folds of your brain.

But you were Prime's top general! You were trained to handle the unexpected, the inconceivable! You call up all your willpower and courage. You can do this!

After you finish sobbing on the floor, wailing for Prime to let you back into the embrace of the Horde, you take stock of the situation, like a rational, competent general.

The ship's sensors have automatically logged the following facts. You've crashed on a planet. This planet is not the planet you were assaulting (for the eternal glory of the ever-victorious Prime). This planet has twelve moons (that appear to provide heat and light to the world). This planet has no sun. This planet has no stars in its sky. This planet (and its moons) appear to be the only celestial bodies in existence. There is no trace of any other Horde ship or even Horde technology anywhere in the entire dimension.

After you finish your second round of sobbing, you review the facts. You are stranded on a world that is somehow separated from the known universe (which flourishes under the glorious rule of Prime). The Horde won't come to rescue you because you aren't worth the effort. You are alone... Just as Prime was alone when he conquered his first world.

Perhaps you haven't fallen forever from Prime's light? Perhaps you can still prove yourself worthy?

Yes, Prime sent you to your death. Yes, Prime sees all and knows all, but he doesn't always pay attention to everything. After all, you managed to conceal your defects for years by making sure they stayed beneath his notice. If you bring this world into Prime's glorious light, then surely Prime will realize he made a mist- made an incomplete evaluation of your value.

Yes, you nod. You know what you must do. Using only what you can salvage from the wreckage of a single ruined ship, you must single-handedly conquer this world for the Horde. And know you must learn where your conquest will begin.

You've crashed in the middle of:
[ ] Arid badlands (The Fright Zone. Canon start)
[ ] A bountiful forest (Plumeria)
[ ] A mountain range (Dryl)
[ ] A chain of small islands in a vast sea (Salineas)

Author's Note: I've decided that the Fright Zone was called "the Fright Zone" even before Hordak conquered it. Scorpia's family canonically called their ancestral home "Horror Hall." They had a goth aesthetic, and it's awesome.

Additional Note: Before you vote to land in Dryl, keep in mind that Entrapta is currently a newborn. More details below.

Introduction to a Quest

This quest got its start when I asked myself "What would have happened if Hordak had landed in another kingdom and another princess was raised in the Horde?" Then I got to thinking about how (as much as I love Entrapdak), I'm not very happy with Hordak's redemption arc. Even Wrong Hordak, had a better arc (in my opinion).

So, now you've got a quest (my first in a while), and it will run more like a Choose Your Own Adventure than the typical quest. I'm not expecting to roll dice (but I may change my mind). Anyways, there are a few things I want to make clear from the begining

Canon: The show is intriguingly/frustratingly light on canon details, so this quest will involve a lot of headcanon. I may end up contradicting Word of God as listed in a tweet somewhere. If I do, please consider this quest to be an AU.

Timelines: I'm assuming that Hordak came to Etheria about 30 years before episode one of the show. That means most of the main characters haven't been born yet. For example, Light Hope will bring baby Adora to Etheria in about 13 years (unless her plans change). I'm expecting this quest to involve a few time skips, so we should meet a lot of them eventually.

Romance: If folks vote for it, I am more than happy to write Hordak getting into romantic relationships. However, Hordak will be treated as a mentally competent adult, so he will not enter into relationships with minors. Also, Hordak will not romance anyone who he knew as a child (even after they've become an adult).

In other words, if Hordak meets baby!Entrapta, he will not smooch adult!Entrapta. I wouldn't really be comfortable writing that romance, so I've decided that Hordak just won't be into it.

I always thought that part of the point was that Hordak didn't have a bad redemption arc, he just didn't have a redemption arc period.

He's not a better person then he was, he's not trying work on his flaws, and he doesn't actually care about being a good guy .... he just shifted his loyalty.

That's it. There is no redemption arc because he isn't redeemed, he just doesn't have a reason to be a conqueror anymore and has a reason to help the protagonists.

Shadow Weaver didn't switch sides because she suddenly turned good, nothing altruistic there, just that her own personal interests led her to work with the good guys. Same with Hordak.

Alright. Calling the vote, and the winner is Salineas. Working on the update now. Get ready to meet Mermista's parents!

First Encounter
Sorry for the long delay everyone! Had an exhausting couple of weeks. I'll try to do better going forward. Thank you all for reading!

[X] A chain of small islands in a vast sea (Salineas)

The portal that brought you to this world ejected your ship quite some distance above the ground. Scanners had automatically captured aerials images. They show a chain of island in a great ocean. The ship detects hints of a large landmass, but your ship is far too damaged to fly there (or anywhere else). For the time being, your ship and most of the equipment in it, would have to remain where it crashed, on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea.

You direct the sensors to focus on the island itself. The good news is that you should be able to eat the local flora and fauna without too much discomfort. (Also, the cliff wasn't about to crumble and cast your ship into the ocean, which soothes at least one fear). The bad news is that this island is tiny, and it has no natural resources beyond the flora and fauna.

There was no technology outside the ship, no metal ores, not even any nearby volcanic vents that you might tap for geothermal power. Must you conquer an entire planet using just driftwood and crustaceans?!

As you calmly and rationally debate the merits of another round of sobbing on the floor, the ship's computer announces "Warning. Ships detected."

"Onscreen!" You command, with sudden hope. If there are ships, then there must be civilization. If there's civilization, then there must be industry, infrastructure, resources! Valuable assets that might just give you a chance to conquer this world. Your heart leaps for joy... and then immediately sinks back down as the main display lights up.

You suppose your ship's crude, misbegotten, un-worthy-to-bathe-in-the-light-of-Prime, AI got at least one detail right. It technically detected ships, sailing ships, made primarily out of wood, wood from trees! A little bit of plasma fire could incinerate the lot of them.

Then you notice that the bulk of each ship floats above the water, with only two wooden blades actually extending down into the waves. Either the local wood is incredibly light or those ships are an impressive bit of engineering.

Either way, a good general makes do with the assets available, you remind yourself. Bad transports are better than no transport. Maybe these ships could take you somewhere with proper resources (anything other than wood). You'll have to deal with the fleet one way or another because they're sailing straight toward your island (and its highly visible spaceship).

You zoom in on the largest ship, which is also the most elaborately decorated and well-guarded. Once you can make out individual people on the deck, you search for the one with the most ostentatious costume. You've brought several planets into Prime's light, and, more often than not, their leaders were the people with the shiniest clothes.

You see two contenders: both humanoid and seemingly mammalian (like a surprisingly large portion of intelligent life). These two appear to have reached adulthood, and they both wear tight leggings, tops that bear their midriff, and gold-plated armor. One's physiology suggests they're capable of producing milk for their young, and the other appears to lack those organs. You guess that they're a female and a male of their species, possibly a breeding pair.

You active the ship's parabolic microphones to try and learn more.

"Ugh," mutters the one you assume to be a man. He manages to cram a truly impressive level of boredom into his tone. "If we stop to investigate every curiosity we find on our way, this whole trip will take twice as long."

"I'm telling you, Tidy. I've sailed past this island a hundred times, that thing on the cliff wasn't there before." The woman(?) speaks with all the enthusiasm her partner lacks. "Just imagine it. Here we are, just beginning our honeymoon-"

"Voyage of state," the man corrects her, but she goes on as if he hasn't spoken.

"-and there's a bright flash of light. The next day, we stumble across some mysterious ruin that wasn't there yesterday." She laughs. "You can't deny you're curious. What's the point of being prince if you can't even go on an adventure!"

The man's lip curls into a small smile. His gaze flickers to the other nearby humanoids, and he visibly forces his face back into a bored expression. He raises his voice to address the crew. "Ugh. Fine. If my wife insists, we can spend a day poking about some hermit's hovel."

Hermit's hovel?! How dare this primitive insult your ship. It drew an exceptional amount of fire compared to the resources lost when it crashed. It's the finest decoy in the entire dimension! You'd kill the man on the spot, if only the cannons worked.

You shove down your annoyance to focus on the facts. This 'prince' (Tidy?) must have some degree of authority to conduct a 'voyage of state'. Perhaps you could capture him? You still had your armor and sidearm. You had to be more than a match for any group so primitive that they travel by sail. Maybe you could ransom this prince for the supplies needed to begin your glorious conquest?

Or maybe you should learn more before you start making enemies? The prince could have powerful allies. Besides, these people haven't even rejected the light of Prime, yet. Perhaps you've finally found a group wise enough to accept his kind and generous rule before being beaten into submission.

Making ourself a warlord won't impress Prime, it'll just show that we want to supplant Him! Hordak's rightful place is as a servant... And if the next ruler is raised with whispers of conquering ambition in their ear... Well.

-[X] hopefully we can get them to transport our ship too a big landmass beacuse it would be a huge hasel having to reinvent everything
