To those who are in power but with a cynical or realistic viewpoint, the people are usually called as objects."

"Since the planet's creation and reappearance following the Expulsion, wars have always shaped it. They have not only left behind technological advancements like space travel and genetic or cloning technology, but also cultural values and traditions that defined the Off-Worlders and have gradually permeated every Vistrian's psyche overtime.

However, it took centuries for the Vistrians to fully integrate it, and this required a bloody war that ended such transformation and ushered in a new era that fully defines Vistria without clinging to the past that had forced the entire civilization to follow one path after the Expulsion, conflicts and the creation of new nations from the post-Expulsion days to the days when the Marikan Imperium once ruled the world until its fiery collapse into dozens of successor states, a situation that continues to this very day.

It is true that conflict alters individuals, the society in which we live, and the effects it has on us even now. But nothing came close to an war that changed Vistria forever."

Hello everyone! Once again, it is Mister Anemone here, and today I am going to share with you another story that I hope will work this time. Although the story is once again in TL format, it does not center on our world like it did in a previous TOld that I wrote. Rather, the focus is now on a made-up world that I created, drawing inspiration from numerous things I came across, and where this story will take place. In actuality, this story is more of a side dish than a main course (although it will primarily serve as a sequel, filling in details about the fictional world that it contains).

In any case, the TL of mine does not come with a set schedule for updates, and it may take weeks or even months for new chapters to be uploaded and there will be small details in regards to the fictional world that I have created that this story will take note of in each new chapter. I hope you enjoy reading this new story that I wrote after a hiatus of several months.

And just a heads up to all of the readers.

As you can see, this TL is intended to be serious, with depictions of graphic scenes and other things that may cause discomfort for the readers, particularly in the later chapters of the story. I will warn you about this warning once, and I will not warn it again in each chapter.

That said, enjoy reading!

Prologue: One Fateful Decision
[From "Southern Hold War Part 1: One Fateful Decision," by Extra History (DirectVid), circa 635 PCE]

Disadae, Eternal Princessdom of Elnath, 475 PCE.

The capital city was teeming with citizens and guests from all over Vistria, gathered for the unique coronation of Isadora the Fifth, the daughter of a previous princess who had passed away some time ago. After a simple yet elegant ceremony that crowned her as a princess, just like her mother, she stood before the audience to speak about her plans for the people and the country she would govern. One fateful decision that would change Vistria forever.

[Intro of Extra History]

Fans of Extra History, today we are going to talk about a very complicated historical topic. A topic that changed the course of Vistria after centuries of constant conflict brought about by the Expulsion and its aftermath, including the Anarchy Era and the rise and fall of the Marikan Imperium. This topic fundamentally altered how this planet and its people dealt with the realization that every Vistrian's character had been irrevocably changed by the centuries-long colonization by an Off-World civilization and the subsequent Expulsion.

This is the Southern Hold War, a war that transformed Vistria forever.

So, without further ado, let us dive into the story, beginning with Isadora V of the Eternal Princessdom of Elnath, giving a coronation speech to everyone who flocked to witness her coronation.

In her coronation speech, Isadora V acknowledged the crises she had inherited from her mother, including an economic downturn, the transition from an agriculturally oriented to a mid-industrialized nation, the rise of fundamentalist sentiments among some sections of the populace leading to multiple violent incidents, and a national outcry against the plan to raise the retirement age. However, something she mentioned in her speech startled everyone in attendance, including the foreign observers invited to the ceremony. It was one fateful choice that altered everything and the planet as a whole.

"I, the Eternal Princessdom's Princess, have decided to formally vacate the parts of mainland Corvii that we have ruled throughout our country's existence. Immediately. I have made this decision with a heavy heart and with the understanding of the pain it will cause our nation, but I have no regret in taking this necessary step to save our nation from the abyss."

Her abrupt decision to leave the mainland Corvii territories was met with immediate, if divided, responses. Some were furious, believing she had made an unprincessly decision to let the wolves inside her country's borders. Others viewed her decision favorably because the mainland territories were seen as a liability and, as noted by future historians, an instigator of the country's internal crises, primarily economic. Elnath's possession of mainland lands for centuries was entirely distinct from that of those who lived on the island.

One distinguishing factor was the inhabitants and the economic situation. The majority of people on the mainland, excluding coastal areas, were mostly of Cephalopod descent in the mountainous north, and Draculid descent in the flat and mountainous south. In contrast, most people on the island and in some coastal areas were of Frierenite descent. Severe ethnic hostilities arose between these groups, with Cephalopod and Draculid banding together to attack the Frierenite, who were seen as a backwater mess with no commercial worth. Elnath's reliance on its agricultural economy, supplying it with food for centuries, worsened the situation. The mainland's preference to either retain or gradually shift the agricultural focus clashed with Elnath's decision to transform it into a semi-industrialized region, leading to economic collapse.

Ultimately, these issues led Isadora V to decide to leave the mainland lands completely, fearing that ignoring or meddling in their affairs would result in a bloody conflict causing more instability than the myriad of problems Elnath faced. Historians commended her for freeing Elnath from the shackles of ruling a distant land and refocusing on its home, which gradually managed their problems. However, they also criticized her for the abrupt departure, a scene reminiscent of the Off-Worlders' sudden abandonment of Vistria centuries ago, leading to problems over who would control the sizable area Elnath left without granting any inheritable rights to neighboring nations, eventually leading to a bloody war.

Elnath's subsequent abandonment of its mainland territories and the hurried relocation of all Frierenite descent to the island left the Cephalopod and Draculid inhabitants unsure of what to do, lacking leaders or a legitimate nation to oversee them. This led to a descent into anarchy, with bandit groups, city-states, and warlords emerging, utilizing resources left by their former overlords. Blood feuds erupted from warlord-to-warlord conflicts or violent intercommunal conflicts over disputed lands. One notable incident involved a warlord group invading territory under the Federal Republic of Irena, which responded by deploying troops to the area and annexing it after eliminating the warlords and bandits. The ensuing humanitarian disaster saw scores of residents fleeing to neighboring countries due to ongoing chaos and famine.

To prevent the chaos from becoming a regional crisis, the Council of Vistria, Imperial Federation of Corvidae, and their contracted PMCs intervened, eliminating dozens of warlords and bandit groups and forming an international committee to find a new heir to the lands Elnath had abandoned. This set the stage for a confrontation between the Free Republic of Gienah and the Imperial Princessdom of Mira, both vying for sovereignty over the territories. Both nations contested the abandoned lands to reunite their people, with the majority of inhabitants being Draculid in Mira and Cephalopod in Gienah. This was crucial for Gienah's democratization efforts after centuries of military rule and for Mira's expansionist ambitions following its conquest and annexation of eastern nations and territories.

After two years of intense arbitration and military build-ups by both nations, the Council of Vistria passed a resolution giving Gienah control over the lands, believing Mira's expansion efforts were predatory and could lead to significant instability. Gienah's decision to accept the lands angered Mira, nearly causing a diplomatic crisis with the Council. However, Mira accepted the decision as the Council granted it control over the Andromeda Islands and eastern Nerod Valley, except for the island of Sybil, which Gienah received.

Gienah faced similar difficulties as Elnath, with many viewing the lands as economically unviable, aside from farming, which had collapsed during Elnath's abandonment. Nevertheless, the nonviolent takeover legitimized the new democratic government, attempting to dislodge the remnants of the military dictatorship. And it would remain this way until an significant discovery during a megacorporation's geological survey, sparking the conflict that would define Vistria as a whole.

[1] - Cephalopods are one of the four major all-female humanoid species that inhabited Vistria. The Cephalopod order includes Octolings and Inklings. Named by the Off-Worlders after a particular piece of art, they were once enemies but united for survival, a bond mostly maintained today despite localized conflicts.

[2] - Draculids are one of the four major all-female humanoid species that inhabited Vistria. Distinguished by their carnivorous diet, they have a much smaller population due to this quirk and are occasionally marginalized in some regions.

[3] - Frierenite is one of the four major all-female humanoid species that inhabited Vistria. Named by the Off-Worlders after a character from a specific work of art, some Frierenites live much longer than average.

[4] - The Council of Vistria functions similarly to the United Nations, with a General Assembly and a Security Council. More proactive than the UN, its governance is modeled after the long-gone Marikan Imperium. Its HQ is located in the Holy State of Naveline, considered the birthplace of Vistria's inhabitants.

Chapter 1 - From Gold To Rust
[From "Uniforms, Dirt, and Hope: A Detailed History of Free Republic of Gienah In The Democratization Era", Prof. Natalia G. Redwood, 710 PCE]

The Golden Era is often portrayed by the general public as the actual beginning of Gienah's democratization. During this time, the nation saw a gradual loosening of its dynastic juntas' centuries-long rule over its national army, adopting the kind of free and fair democracy that most Vistrian nations had long practiced. Gienah also discovered vast reserves of mineral resources, including coal that would eventually be refined, and dozens of rare minerals in a region known as the Southern Hold. Within a few years, these discoveries turned the backwater under the rule of a dynastic military junta into a major economic force. The country invested in technology and other advancements that would eventually become commonplace. However, this prosperity ended with the violent annexation of the Southern Hold by the expansionist Mira, then under the reign of the Princessdom. This annexation resulted in the complete breakdown of the once-prosperous society and its roaring economy, plunging its citizens into a life of chaos, starvation, and corruption that was thought to have vanished during the Golden Era.

Beyond romanticism and rose-colored glasses, however, the Golden Era and its decline are far more nuanced and complex than a broad story resembling the rise and fall of a princessdom state.

Chronologically, the Golden Era started when Gienah received lands granted by the arbitration committee of the Council of Vistria following Elnath's abrupt withdrawal from its lands in mainland Corvii due to an internal crisis. However, it is incorrect to assume that the acquisition of the lands that would eventually become the Southern Hold marked the beginning of a new era for Gienah and its democratization movement.

In fact, when Gienah seized the lands, they agreed with the Elnathii residents that the Southern Hold was merely a backwater area, lacking the allure necessary to support a thriving regional economy. The area was only beginning to recover from two years of violent anarchy, large-scale famine, and a significant depopulation and immigration crisis after being abandoned to the wild. Additionally, the difficulty of assimilating a large number of Draculids into a country like Gienah, where the majority population was Cephalopods, led to further complications. The Draculids perceived this assimilation as a betrayal of their goal to unite with nearby Mira as it was campaigning during the arbitration. These issues led Gienah into a tense political deadlock between newly created parties regarding the responsibility of maintaining control of the Southern Hold, an uptick in violence from remnants of warlord or bandit groups, and two failed military coups by several disgruntled members of the Gienahn Army, which managed to retain its presence in the democratized government through secret agreements and loopholes.

Over time, Gienah would address these issues as part of its national effort to fully integrate the Southern Hold. It offered its residents a variety of benefits, such as helping to rebuild the region's agricultural economy, which had been completely destroyed during the collapse into anarchy, and creating new jobs through government-backed infrastructure projects and opportunities from several mega-corporations looking to establish a presence in the area. Gienah also restored the region's security situation by eliminating any remaining warlords or bandits who roamed the territories. The issue of the Draculid inhabitants was handled by either ignoring them or forcing them to leave their homes after being bought out by corporations or their Cephalopod neighbors.

The process of gaining and incorporating the Southern Hold, however, left Gienah with a bitter taste. Consequently, they diverted their attention to erecting a new, democratic government instead of addressing the ongoing issues associated with running the Southern Hold. They chose to maintain the recently restored local economy and security while dispatching dozens of prospectors to the area, hoping to discover valuable minerals crucial for developing their national economy, which had recently opened its doors to Vistria for the first time since the democratization of its government.

That is, until the year 494 PCE, when a group of prospectors hired by Gienah and working for CONVMI[1] undertook a geological survey of a piece of land primarily used for farming and found a sizable petroleum reserve beneath it.

This discovery, along with others of various resources like coal, gold, and rare earth materials throughout the region, would ultimately usher in the Golden Era for the country. As news of the discoveries spread, Gienahns and even foreign businesses flocked to the Southern Hold to join the burgeoning industry. The ensuing boom saw Gienah transform into an economic powerhouse with easy access to petroleum and coal, enabling the nation to rapidly modernize and transition into its industrialization phase and opening the once closed economy to foreign investors seeking to invest in the now liberalized country. This allowed the citizens, who had been denied freedom for centuries due to the authoritarian rule of the dynastic military juntas, to finally have access to items that had previously been prohibited, such as personal computers, modern homes, Replikas[2] and other robotic products such as Stirling Products or MaidCo. Robotics that were intended for household use, and, shockingly, high-quality food items from the farms in the Southern Hold that have witnessed a renaissance ever since it was repaired from its devastation a long time ago.

But despite the economic boom that saw the quality of life for an ordinary Gienahn increase tenfold, depressing cities completely modernized to the level of most of Vistria, and the democratization of its government slowly bearing fruit, the Golden Era resulted in a slow change in a national perception that wasn't since its creation. Gienah slowly transformed itself in just a few years from a dictatorial and warmongering nation led by dynastic military juntas into a developing, newly democratized nation with the potential to become a major rival to the nations of the Sunstorm Alliance[3], which had similar economic progress and trajectory and allowing Gienah to establish positive relations to neighboring nations such as those of the Sunstorm Alliance (in which Gienah successfully applied to become part of them in 504 PCE), Imperial State of Theia and, more increasingly, the United Federation of Corvidae after centuries of being shunned due to their autocratic actions.

However, issues and problems began to emerge from each success of the Golden Era. These included continued political tensions between the new blood and old elites, an increasing divide between rich and poor despite the overall improvement in quality of life, and an increase in government propaganda emphasizing the eternal unity of its national populace. Additionally, there was a slow rise in inflation rates due to mishandled fiscal policies and growing marginalization of Draculid inhabitants in the Southern Hold that saw frequent protests and violent intercommunal clashes over the seizure of their properties and having little to no protections when it comes to employment in the companies that was set up across the region.

However, one significant event during this time completely destroyed the popular narrative of the Golden Era, as depicted in the fictitious books and films produced by different studios in Goddess' Paradise[4]: the return of the dreaded dynastic military juntas, initiated by Brigadier General Hasheera Tau, a prominent officer of the Gienah Army. This woman, through her cousin, would bear a child who would go on to become a well-known figure in the Southern Hold War and a notorious ruler at the same time.

The resurgence of a military junta came as a surprise to many in Vistria, who believed that the dynastic military junta era had mostly ended with the democratization process. Despite numerous reforms and an economic boom during the Golden Era, which made Gienah almost industrialized and modern, the nature of the Gienahn government remained largely unchanged from the days when dynastic military juntas ruled the nation. Former Army officers who were formerly assigned to various governmental departments, transferred their political skills to the political arena once the democratization process went into full swing. Local corporations, owned by former Army officers turned oligarchs, quickly set up shop across the Southern Hold as soon as news of the discovery of untapped minerals and the resulting mining boom spread. Most of the economic growth during the Golden Era was siphoned off to maintain the large budget needed for the Gienah Army, pursuing white elephant projects like the controversial Hoshino Coastal Defense System—a 50-kilometer-long coastal defense belt intended as a deterrence against the rapidly expanding naval forces of the Imperial Princessdom of Mira to the south—or line the pockets of local oligarchs. And finally, despite being better concealed now than it was previously, the authoritarian grip over its people is still in place.

These issues ultimately led to a pivotal decision in 524 PCE, when Brigadier General Hasheera Tau launched a successful coup against the government, which was seen as thriving due to the nation's economic boom and democratization process. Despite this perception, the nation's endless growth was beginning to wane, leading to increasing problems that the government struggled to address.

However, the Gienahn government was dealing with a plethora of national issues prior to the coup, including the Hoshino Coastal Defense Project controversy, a heated debate among politicians regarding economic mismanagement despite the country's growth, and a corruption investigation into the President over an unusual agreement with an Eian[5]-based defense company for the purchase of four frigates for the navy. Despite widespread protests by proponents of democracy, which led to months-long violent demonstrations, and sanctions imposed by several countries in response to the coup, Brigadier General Hasheera Tau, now President, framed her coup as an attempt to safeguard a healthy democracy against anti-government elements within its ranks. She presented an unfounded idea that the coup was justified by fears that officers of the small Gienah Navy were plotting to turn Gienah into a Baathist[6] state that would overturn the "hard-earned" democratization process of Gienah and that she justifies the coup as "desperate moment" to prevent the plot from becoming an reality.

Despite her rhetoric, President Hasheera Tau maintained the same economic policies from before the coup and reinstated some repressive policies from the pre-democratization era. As a result, Vistria largely turned a blind eye to a nation that was supposed to be a shining example of moving away from authoritarianism.

With the issues that Gienah slowly built up during the days of the Golden Era, various historical and geopolitical experts believe these problems harmed Gienah more than what Mira did to them when they decided to invade, and annex, the Southern Hold in the year of 527 PCE…

[1] - Acronym of Confederation of Vistrian Mining Institute, one of the dozens of Vistrian megacorporations that deals with mineral extraction and other stuff related to the mining industry. Pronounced as Con-Mi with silent V.

[2] - Replika is an biomechanical humanoid that was originally developed by the Off-Worlder colonists before being adapted and transform it into a general purpose biomechanical humanoid by Vistrians in the aftermath of the Expulsion after it was left behind and was produced by various mega-corporation that are mostly focused in producing, maintaining, and upgrading Replikas to this very day despite the introduction of original but newer ones and Artificial Vistrians to the society.

Replika has a notable quirk that would differentiate from other biomechanical humanoids is that they have specific emotions and behaviors that are tailor made to their specific roles such as factory, household, and even military. Though, this quirk was slowly becoming extinct by the time that this story is taking place thanks to the introduction of models that can adapt to a variety of roles and even acts like an Artificial Vistrian as well.

[3] - Sunstorm Alliance is an geopolitical alliances that consisted of member states that was located in the northern part of the continent of Corvii, but are mostly inhabited by an Cephalopod majority. It's consisted of the following: Federal Republic of Irena, Princessdom of Kalausi, Northern Republic of Pleione, United Domains of Lerna, Free Republic of Eastern Lerna l, and later, Free Republic of Gienah.

Originally formed to prevent the spread of influence by the United Federation of Corvidae, changing times and the threat of Astralist Fundamentalism in the form of Astral Republic of Mira resulted in their shift to focus more of being an regional, but neutral, bloc (similar to ASEAN in IRL) instead.

[4] - Basically Vistria's version of Hollywood. While unsavory things still exist unfortunately, it wasn't as nasty as Hollywood.

[5] - Demonym for a group of people that lives in the Archon Commonwealth of Ei.

[6] - Baathist, or Baathism, is an ideology that was present in the world of Vistrian politics whose concepts and ideas are similar to OTL Fascism/actual Baathism, but with more focus on a national superiority over the racial/cultural one.

Chapter 2 - All Because of Allah...
A/N: The new chapter takes a slight detour from the book excerpts, focusing on "present-day" events that occurred before the main subject of the story began. But do not worry, there will be another book excerpt chapter following this one, which will describe the origins of the war in the view of Mira. It will alternate between the format of this chapter and book excerpt-based chapter of the last one to be exact.

So again, enjoy reading!

"I apologize to everyone who wanted me to run as the highest-ranking candidate in this nation, a position I never expected to be blessed with by Allah. But I could see why they wanted me to run. Because, like everyone else, I have seen a future for this country that would scare everyone else. There will be no embellishments, as the TradPols in this country have done for centuries. Instead of standing up to the nation that stole our land out of greed! A nation that has recently succumbed to the false and heretical belief that they are more special in Allah's eyes than anyone else! No, they are not unique in the eyes of Allah! Our nation and our leaders have instead allowed our lands to be stolen by that nation and they allow this nation to decay instead. But look at us, it has been centuries since that happened and yet, we are still standing strong against all odds that have been thrown against us! This is the reason why I decided to run for president of this great nation. All because of Allah that trusted me in reclaiming our lands and restoring this nation back to what it was in the days of the Golden Era…"

[1] - The Student Group is the Vistrian equivalent of private military contractors (or mercenaries) of Earth.

The difference between the two is why the latter always addressed the official term in an unprofessional manner in the eyes of a human being on Earth. It is because the majority of Vistrians who became mercenaries - or students, as they were called - preferred using daily casual wear rather than purchasing tactical-focused casual wear, and the most commonly available casual wear for Vistrians that would look "cool" for them is their old school uniforms. In fact, a Vistrian prefers the politically correct and professional term "student group" to the offensive term "school girl mercs/school girl PMCs". Partly because of embarrassment, and partly because it was controversial even in the eyes of ordinary Vistrians.

The idea of Student Group for this story is based on dozens of (mostly SFW) art featuring anime girls wearing school uniforms and were armed with weapons and/or tactical gear that were found in sites like DeviantArt, Pixiv, and other art-related sites.

[2] - Allah refers to...Well, I am going to discuss this in more detail below:

You see, the fictional world is incomplete without fictional inhabitants who practice a fictional religion. In this case, Vistrian worshiped in a religion known as Astralism. A term with many different meanings on Earth, but in the Vistrian case, it refers to a religion that primarily worships the stars of the night sky.

To put it exactly, Astralism is basically Shintoism of Earth in terms of structure that revolved around a set of beliefs, practices, or worshiping to various spiritual entities (with Kami as its "head") that existed in ancient times. The main distinction between the two is that Astralism combines those structures with those that survived the centuries-long planetary colonization by the Off-Worlders, as well as those that arose during the period of planetary colonization; however, it was solidified during the days of Marikan Imperium, which was engaged in copying the "basic" information about Japanese culture that was now common in its dozens of post-Marikan Imperium successor states.

That, and Astralism has two branches that did not exist in actual Shintoism: one that nearly follows Shintoism to the letter, and the other is more interpretative, very serious in examining the meaning of the beliefs, practices, and divine spirits, as well as having additional practices that were not present in actual Shintoism of Earth. The reason Astralism has two branches is quite simple.

The prototypical version of Astralism, according to surviving records, began to diverge into two different religions until the Off-Worlders arrived in Vistria and introduced their own "brand" of religion. While their efforts mostly failed, it did not stop the two branches of Astralism from taking shape. One of the branches amused the Off-Worlders due to its striking resemblance to Shintoism, leading them to leave it largely undisturbed. The other branch bore a strong similarity to Islam, prompting the Off-Worlders to interfere with its development by introducing several Islamic beliefs and practices over time.

Despite their effort, the Off-Worlders did not succeed in significantly altering the latter branch of Astralism. However, it did adopt some Islamic practices and merge them into its own traditions, such as daily prayers with devotees facing the Sun and the use of modest clothing like hijabs and long dresses. These garments were primarily worn by mothers and were not societally enforced, except in areas or nations governed by Astral Fundamentalist policies, such as Mira

So in short, Allah is what the other branch of Astralism called it as the Star. And the Star is what the Shintoism called it as Kami.

[3] - Since Elnath abandoned their mainland territories, which were mostly taken by Gienah, Mira, and Irena, Isadora V has been developing Elnath along the lines that OTL Oman has taken.

[4] - Zako is a Japanese word meaning "little fish."

However, the meaning of the word in Vistrian context would be discussed in another story after this one - which primarily serves as a side dish for me - concluded.

Chapter 3 - Of Desire And Expansionism
[From "Stars In A Bright Sky: The Detailed History of Mira", Alexandrina Sebastiane, 648 PCE ]

It is difficult to discuss the complexities of the Southern Hold War without mentioning Mira's involvement, which began when they attempted, but failed, to claim the territories known as the Southern Hold, which Elnath controversially abandoned due to numerous factors. While the most common reason given by dozens of analyses in regards to the origins of the conflict for why Mira decided to stake those lands is that those lands are inhabited by their fellow kind, and the desire to acquire or annex them is a standard operating procedure that most Vistrian nations have followed, as in the case of Southern Hold, which is inhabited by Mira's predominant Draculid descent. Aside from nearly adapting Draculid sentiments at the last minute during the arbitration when it became clear that Gienah would eventually be awarded by the Council of Vistria, Mira's primary motivation for claiming the Southern Hold is a simple opportunity. An opportunity to expand their lands and exploit the resources of those lands in their attempt to build a large navy that would not only control the largest body of ocean on this planet, known as the Marikan Ocean, but would also counter Corvidae's massive navy, which currently controls the entire Corvus Ocean.

To better understand why Mira, or the Imperial Princessdom of Mira, engaged in expansionism prior to its bloody downfall during the Miranan Revolution in order to build a perfect Vistrian navy, let us return to the days when nearly all of the lands on the continent of Corvii were governed by two massive entities[1] that emerged following the collapse of the Marikan Imperium: the Imperium of Corvidae and the Great Miranan Empire.

Despite controlling the majority of Corvii and having more population and industrial power, the Great Miranan Empire has never fully surpassed the enormous power and its influence that the Imperium of Corvidae possessed, to the point where the continent, Corvii, was undoubtedly named after them. The primary reason for this is pure geopolitics, which proved to be the Great Miranan Empire's major weakness prior to its demise during the Lyrianization Era. The most common features of the lands that the Great Miranan Empire controlled is that they have controlled the entirety of the Lerna Mountain Range, and those mountains provided a whopping 80% for the inhabitants of the empire that lived there, most of them were the common folk, and the rest were the elites and artisans that mostly in the southeastern portion of the empire that mostly consisted of both chaparral plains of the Revati Plains and a drainage basin that formed a single river known as the Great Revati Empire that flows into the Marikan Ocean. The latter lands of the empire contain the only source of food stuff that was produced for the Great Miranan Empire, as farming in the northern, northwest, central, and northeast regions proved to be inhospitable due to being mountainous and having a climate that is typical of areas near the north pole, something that was rectified with the introduction of genetically-engineered food crops by agricultural megacorps and agricultural-based greenhouse structures. However, at the time, the Great Miranan Empire was forced to rely on food imports to feed their subjects which would prove costly in the long run.

While there are other major issues that completely affected the Great Miranan Empire that resulted in being Lyrianized, the first victim at the start of the Lyrianization Era, such as the constant language barriers between those who spoke the majority Angevinish[2], the minority Mirasian[3] and other minority Marikiniish[4] that lived on the northeastern part of the empire, constant corruption in its governance, costly rivalry between them and the Imperium of Corvidae, and many other things. It was simple geography that harmed the Great Miranan Empire the most. Something that its successor, the Imperial Princessdom of Mira, would never forget, and it was the driving force behind their shift in political focus from maintaining a vast land empire to becoming a naval power. Of course, in order to obtain the exorbitant amount of resources required to build their massive navy, Mira would be forced to expand their territories in order to capture and use the much-needed resources, such as the subjugation of Independent Princessdom of Felis, Federative State of Maia, Federative Princessdom of Navi, and the annexation of southern lands of Free Republic of Kosjenka. In the case of Federative Princessdom of Navi, however, they were able to reestablish their independence through bloodshed when the Imperial Federation of Corvidae intervened in Imperial Princessdom of Mira's attempts to conquer the entire Free Republic of Kosjenka, a war that occurred ten years before Elnath abandoned the entire Southern Hold. Something that fully solidified Mira's desire to transform their nation, which was mostly focused on farming and had a community of top-tier astronomers in Vistria, into a nation that would seek to control the largest body of water and demonstrate that they could stand up to the might of the Imperial Federation of Corvidae.

Nonetheless, Mira's desire to expand their lands indefinitely in order to feed the growing navy would result in two outcomes. One is their intense rivalry with Gienah, which began when they fully annexed the Southern Hold in 527 PCE. The other was laying the groundwork for the downfall of the Imperial Princessdom of Mira…

[From "Hold The Line!: A Detailed Analysis Of The Southern Hold War and Its Consequences", Luz Noceda, 710 PCE]

The rise of Harsheera Tau to power in Gienah marked the unexpected return of the dynastic military junta during the democratization era and the Golden Days that have defined the nation since its inception, prompting Mira to reconsider their position in regards to their claim to the Southern Hold, which would lead to an invasion and annexation of the Southern Hold in order to capture the region's abundant resources.

Mira's abrupt shift from fully acknowledging Gienah's control of those lands as part of the Council of Vistria's agreement to an open desire to seize those lands from Gienah was unavoidable given the nature of their quest for naval supremacy, which Mira has long desired since the collapse of their continental empire.

The main issue that Mira encountered in their quest to become a naval power was that the nation mostly pooled its resources from their expansionist campaigns and the earning of its meagre economy, which was mostly revolved around farming within the Revati Plains and the river basin, to simply use them to build more and even maintain their large fleet, instead of using those things that they have acquired to focus on other things that could have helped them become a developed nation. Indeed, their sole focus on naval expansion has had such an impact on the overall economy that Mira's once-thriving farming industry has slowly withered away, forcing Mira to rely more on food imports from neighboring countries to keep it stable. It has also had an impact on their land army in terms of numbers, as most of their citizens would rather sign up for the growing navy, which comes with benefits that were not previously available in their army[5].

While Mira has mostly managed to put a lid on these issues by increasing their extraction of oil in the oil-rich region of the Revati Plains known as the "Oil Belt," in response to Gienah's discovery and extraction of oil and other mineral resources in the Southern Hold, and export those products that allowed to earn tons of hard cash and use it to develop its economy in its superficial level, and slowing down in its building of prominent warships or retiring them when it began to show its age or outdatedness in its role. The desire for new resources to further expand the slowly bloated navy, combined with the realization that the lands they had conquered were gradually exhausting themselves, caused them to reconsider the legitimacy of Gienah's control over their lands and begin gambling on the idea of invading and annexing those lands. A gamble that would eventually pay off in the form of Harsheera Tau's ascension after launching a coup in Gienah, as well as growing tensions between Draculid and Cephalopod inhabitants in the Southern Hold due to constant marginalization and economic inequality, resulting in the outbreak of regional protests in the year 527 PCE.

Fearing that Gienah is preparing a violent crackdown against the protesters, which will have disastrous consequences, Mira would embark on a massive months-long build-up of its forces, redirecting available resources that were not used to build new ships or maintain old ones in its long-neglected army, and then launch a massive invasion into the Southern Hold. In just four amazing months, Mira not only overran the ill-prepared Gienahn Army in a swift offensive, but they also managed to invade the Gienah directly in a matter of tens of kilometers, even taking Harsheera Tau in the decisive battle, despite slowing down their advances by the time they reached the mountainous areas aside from the coastal plains.

The shocking defeat that Gienah has never experienced in their dozens of mostly border conflicts since its founding has resulted in the nation completely suffering a societal and economic breakdown due to the loss of access to minerals extracted during the Southern Hold War, which would last a century. But for Mira, not only did they manage to pounce on the most militarized army in all of Vistria against an army that was quickly built up for the purpose of attacking them, but they also managed to acquire the much-needed resources to keep their naval explosion afloat for another century.

Mira's victory against Gienah and their annexation of the Southern Hold would became irrelevant as Gienah desire to avenge the loss of the Southern Hold despite their nation's economic and societal breakdown and Mira's focus on naval build-up and superficial economic gains eventually led to a bloody overthrow of the nation's princessdom.

[1] - Prior to the Lyrianization Era, the continent of Corvii was once ruled by three huge countries. The Agnès Imperium is the name of that third country. Historians, on the other hand, saw them as a mere puppet state of the Great Miranan Empire, giving rise to the notion that the continent was divided into two nations that was written in the book

[2] - The Vistrian equivalent of Arabic. One of the two most widely spoken languages on the planet next to Marikiinish. Same as the IRL version without any changes in its structure, but the scripts are based on Splatoon language scripts that were used by the Inklings (even though it originated from lands that were inhabited by Vistrans/Humans…)

[3] - The Vistrian equivalent of Persian (or Farsi). One of the few languages that was spoken on the planet that wasn't Angevinish or Marikiinish. Like Angevinish, the structure of Mirasian still remains the same as the IRL version, but the language script is very similar to Angevinish, but with other changes that it looked more of a language script that was used by the Octolings.

[4] - The Vistrian equivalent of English. One of the two most widely spoken languages on the planet next to Angevinish.

The difference between IRL English and Marikiinish is that they don't use the letter J or even pronounce it that includes the aforementioned letter. As a result, the letter H or GH was used in its spelling instead (for example, the word "ghet" in Marikiniish is the equivalent to the IRL English word of "jet") and pronounciation is very different as a result (example the pronounciation of "ghet" is similar to "git"). The reason for this quirk is possibly because of Marikan Imperium fascination with anything "Japanese culture" that was brought by the Off-Worlders during the planetary colonization era as a result.

Meanwhile, the writing script for Marikiinish is an upgraded variant of the language script that was used by the Angevinish language.

[5] - The Miranan Imperial Army - the official name of Mira's army during the Princessdom years - was so neglected as a result of Mira's constant navy expansion that their standard infantry weapon at the time before their invasion of the Southern Hold was the archaic MIA-90 rifle, which was based on IRL Marlin Model 1894, but it is magazine fed instead. Because of the sheer reliability issues that were demonstrated during the invasion of the Southern Hold, and because its design had reached the pinnacle of upgradability, the MIA-90 was immediately withdrawn from service and replaced by a modern, if not heavier, service rifle known as the MIA-160, which is a local clone of the Fern-originated FS-771, both of which are based on IRL Heckler and Koch G3 but is chambered with 6.8mm round.

"It appears that many ordinary Gienahn or democratic activists are concerned that they will have to witness the return of the dynastic military junta, especially since the previous one failed so spectacularly after being defeated by Mira and annexing the hotly contested region of the Southern Hold. The truth is, however, that everything has changed in Gienah since the aftermath of the war that resulted in Dark Days and its slow recovery, which required an intense pouring of international aid and the re-adoption of some pre-democratization policies to keep Gienah from becoming a failed state similar to the ones in the Middle Region. The fact that Gienah's military chief, with whom she is related to the aforementioned dynastic junta through the cousin line, is gradually gaining popular support among the Gienahn populace for her policies aimed at completely eliminating the ongoing banditry problem demonstrates how much has changed on the ground over the last century."

[2] - The alternate and official name of United Lands of Northern Fern, to prevent confusion of the neighboring nation down south: Federal Republic of Fern.

[3] - Despite being inhabited by Frierenite descent, Akanan mythology states that the Akanan people were a by-product of a goddess wolf whose name is lost to history to a mortal being named…Akana. If that sounds familiar, because the nation's origin story is similar to the origin story of how the Turkic people is born in Earth.

[4] - Since the creation of Vistria, magic has become a part of life, with the most important magical skills being actively providing and maintaining nature and its biomes despite constant exploitation by non-Mages for resources, healing magic and other complex uses of magic such as reviving Vistrian from the dead. Once the Off-Worlders arrived in Vistria and began planetary colonization, they attempted to completely eradicate the presence of magic across Vistria by instituting a system similar to what Native Americans faced.

Unfortunately, the Off-Worlders' attempt to eradicate the traces of magic in Vistria nearly succeeded if Vistrians had not been able to rediscover the purpose of magic through written literature containing chants or practitioners who had successfully hid themselves during planetary colonization. While they are not as dominant as the days before the planetary colonization by the Off-Worlders and mostly consisted of less than 12% of the total population of Vistria, magic are still relevant as ever since one of the major magical spells that they have practiced, the spell that could revive the affected area filled with wildlife once again, is what prevented Vistria from falling into the issue of global warming even with intense modernization and resource exploitation.
