Oh boy, a Transistor quest, with RWBY crossover even. This is amazing, this is grand, this could not get better.
*Sees an option of a RWBY/KSBD crossover instead*
...Oh well, second best possible, but still absolutely fantastic. Let's ANET up this shit.

so talking sword won lets hope it doesnt get jacked by ember and her crew emerald was a thief ya know have no clue of the game the swords from but is it mechanical cause im guessing its like penny in sword form super a.i. capable of hacking and basically destroying human civilization in a second cause without airships atlas machines all they have is basically walls hope jaune keeps crocea mors as back up good old steel never let ya down.

I'm just a little bit into the game, but if I have the right read on it? Less hack and destroy civilization on a whim and more mod local reality a bit. Like Prok said, if the Transistor gets jacked by people who don't give it right back and we don't get it back right away the entirety of Remnant is basically fucked sideways with a rusty spoon.

ahh ok so we need to fu*k cardin up like cripple amputation his legs cause YOU know he will jack our sword just to be a di*k and probably take everything we have and he wants away from us.

question how far can the reality bending reach like for small things the planet and huge miracles right next to us cause would making it so no one steals from us work.

Hate to complain but it seems kind of unfair that of unfair that we don't get the extra something because we didn't guess everything considering that you gave us 11 different options. That is an insane amount and the choices were based on many different franchises. An option even had to be given a lot more clues due to the QM messing up the meaning, multiple times. That just seems a bit much not to mention you said you'd give us till 12 PM until you close the vote.

The fact that people guesses 10 out of 11 options is actually impressive considering that I didn't think people would even make it that far.
And then someone guessed the order of the choices in one, which I feel is worth a reward in and of itself.

... Yeah, you know what, 11 out of 12 would be an A on a test nowadays and The Zombie Knight is... not as popular as I'd like it to be if I'm honest. I was surprised when someone actually recognised the series in my other work, so I shouldn't be surprised when people in a different thread don't recognise it. So, go on, you've twisted my arm.

@Prok What would we have gotten had we guessed all the options?
The full guess prize was dependent on which option won, bar Mob Psycho 100 because screw you, you don't need to be more powerful there.

In Transistor's case...

א‎0:\user\sysadmin> run utilityfunctions.bat

Restore() Unlocked- Allows you to return an object to a former state as long as the Transistor has the state logged. {Don't worry, I do that all the time. Like. With everything.}

Search() Unlocked- Highlights objects fitting criteria inputted by the user. For example, "Sword," "Computer," "Blue," "Friend." {Oh, hey. It's me. Aw.}

Freeze() Unlocked- Freezes an object at its current XYZW axes for 10 seconds. {Useful for knocked over teacups. And, leaping Grimm, I guess.}

א‎0:\user\sysadmin> run nerup.bat

Spiral() Unlocked- releases a bolt of energy that hits and just keeps on going. {And going. And going.

...

And going-}

These are yours now. Be nice to them.
I'm just a little bit into the game, but if I have the right read on it? Less hack and destroy civilization on a whim and more mod local reality a bit. Ugh, still hate that name-

Ahem, no. How do I put this...

Jaune... let's say that using Functions is his Semblance for a moment. That's because it is, but that's beside the point. Using Functions with the Transistor, is the equivalent of going to medical school, becoming a doctor, getting into a clean room with sterile tools and assistants and washed hands and years of experience, to do open-heart surgery.

Using Functions without the Transistor is like dragging a hobo away with the fairies on crack into the operating theatre, handing him a sledgehammer, and saying "Go crazy!"

Unless you are very lucky, that patient is dead. That patient is also Jaune. You just killed Jaune by way of a crack hobo with a sledgehammer.

At least he was still under from the anaesthetics.

Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah- don't use Combat Functions without the Transistor unless you've just narrowly avoided being hit by a train, won the lottery, or some other amazing feat of good fortune. I wouldn't even risk using Utility Functions without it, if only because they'd be kind of useless.

I am not going to be kind about your failures in this regard. You got your freebie when you were attacked in the alley.

EDIT: Before I forget, in my tired haze, to answer... eh, someone's question, Jaune isn't mute now, he's just... quiet. Not a second Ren, exactly, but people will need to lean in to hear him outside of battle.

There are reasons which make me doubt our ability to mod reality, but I don't want to name them since spoilers. Sufice to say, Transistor is boosted in power within the gameworld.

There is also the potentially very creepy ability to gain new skills by adding in souls to the Transistor.

so functions are his semblance and the sword is like a wand from harry potter to channel his power through any way can we train ourselves to use them without fucking ourself over.

Edit: we can get new skills for souls cool but its rwby so can we get there semblance say kill adam then can fire excaliblasts.

We can never have our scroll be permanently damaged again!

Quite useful for tracking down things somewhat quicker.

Probably going do be our most often combo move due to this function capable of freezing an object which we can then wail on for impunity or be set up for our teammates.
Spiral() Unlocked- releases a bolt of energy that hits and just keeps on going. {And going. And going.
Piercing ranged attack? Piercing ranged attack :)

Oh okay, should apologize for twisting your arm like that so sorry. While I did think that the guessing all 11 option thing was a bit much, especially after how hard a time people were having with just the voice of god question, decided not to say anything. Only got upset because after you called the vote early and after a while I realized that after looking up the aberrant option again that the puzzle itself seemed very misleading due to the fact that the answer was pretty much the same word in noun form and so people could very easily miss it in favor of looking for series and franchises that could be connected to the world aberrant. More so since the refference was very obscure. Though thinking about it don't think it's fair to blame you for that since some things like that aren't actually immediately obvious to the person, since to them it may seem obvious to other people, unless pointed out by someone else.

Again sorry.

Jaune will finally be able to pull his own weight! (Aside from leadership and tactics, that is) :V

what age is jaune gonna start as anyway i know we get our sword before beacon will he actually go to a combat school and possibly make some oc friends who with his interference go to beacon as well or meet some of the characters before canon we need a better impression on yang dont want to be vomit boy.

18, or rather 17 about to go 18... tho he seems to have regressed to signal despite him going to Beacon at 17 in canon

... Son of a bitch, he got it in one.

Well, that's part of it. Essentially, the lower down the list you go, the more powerful you would be, but the more reasons Jaune will have to be a social pariah, whether self-inflicted or otherwise.

Think about it. Kageyama, from Mob Psycho 100, when he hits 100%, he becomes a force of nature. He hits 100, you lose, do not pass Go, do not collect 200 dollars. Therefore, the less Jaune cares about people, the less chance of his emotions getting the better of him, the less chance of him accidentally hurting his frie- acquaintances like he did his sister in the alley. A social pariah, for the good of others.

Pillar. "I eat people and Grimm for sustenance and use my body in weird and horrifying ways to kill things, such as using the tendons in my arms as whips, and I can do all this because I'm the most evolved being on the planet." Creepy, yes, useful, yes, overall able to look past it because he's (read: you're) a nice guy? Yes.

Aberration.

YOU EAT SOULS. IN A WORLD WHERE SOULS HAVE BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO EXIST AND BE REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF A HUMAN BEING.

I CANNOT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW HORRIFYING THAT WOULD SEEM TO PEOPLE.

MEANWHILE- ahem, meanwhile, on the other end of the scale, we have "I know how to do everything," powers easily explained off as a Semblance if he wears gloves, and "Oh hey yeah I have a cool talking sword."

The lower down the list you go, the more objectively powerful you are, but the more inherently dangerous you are to the people around you, and the more Jaune's personality changes to either make him less willing to make friends, or creepy or severe or otherwise just dissonant enough that people would rather not make friends with him in the first place.

Okay really curious about the North Star option since it was at the low end of the choices. Mind going into more details about that?

personally would prefer hot chick voice from sword especially if it sometimes get jealous of the attention we get from females haha.

So who is the voice of the transistor Red or Red's guy friend?
Why not both?
Then we can have fun when the transistor argues with itself.
It would even make sense as Red stabs herself with it at the end of Transistor so she can be together with her lover(?) inside of it.
They could even have conversations that make Jaune feel awkward in their presence.:D

... Whoops.

LEMME JUST FIX THAT REAL QUICK-LIKE-

so functions are his semblance and the sword is like a wand from Harry potter to channel his power through any way we can train ourselves to use them without fucking ourself over.
That's the gist of it.

You could, but to continue my streak of moronic similes, that would be like taking Muhammad Ali, bless his soul, tying his hands behind his back, and telling him to train until he could beat down Joe Frazier solely by headbutting him. It's stupid, it's a waste of time, and it's limiting you in the worst way possible, and by God, I'd pay good money to see it.

Your best bet? Don't let that USB drive for the soul out of your sight for a goddamned minute if you can.

Okay really curious about the North Star option since it was at the low end of the choices. Mind going into more details about that?
The North Star option, had it won, would have given Jaune a very mild understanding of Hokuto Shinken, from Fist Of The North Star.

Hokuto Shinken in a nutshell- You hit people in certain places. People explode. Usually messily.

A martial art meant for assassination, as it turns out, when it isn't curing the blind and mute and making people forget things, because Messiah figures amirite, doesn't really have an effective non-lethal option when it comes to actual, no element of surprise combat. Which, considering you're going to a combat school, where you're not supposed to kill your fellow students yet, doesn't bode well.

... At least it makes sparring interesting!

So who is the voice of the transistor Red or Red's guy friend?
Based solely on the personality I seem to have given its asides?

Bill Wurtz.

Anyway, have an update that kinda got away from me.

|||

You remember what happened next... almost too vividly, for your liking.

The foot came for your face, you flinched, and then the impact you were expecting never came.

You saw flashes of something on your eyelids, something you now realise was an accidental, and somewhat primitive, version of your Turn() Function. You remember cracking your eyes open ever so slightly and seeing the world in grey and white.

Somehow, your brain, and it was your brain, or your soul, or something, was showing you everything at such a rate that it looked like time had stopped. You remember thinking that was your Semblance, that you could somehow stop time and do whatever.

... You weren't a very smart child, in retrospect.

You remember planning exactly how to grab your sister and get out of there- dodge the boot, weave around the goth girl, grab your sister from between the guys, and run like hell. You ignored the headache just planning it out caused you, and when you finally moved...

Well, you passed out with a nosebleed and woke in hospital two days later. Turns out, Turn(), minus your lovely sword, equals your brain performing a nice impression of cauliflower soup.

{You ok?}

You glance down at the glowing blue supercomputer in question, and hum mildly in response.

"Mm-hm."

{Hey, come on. Getting wrapped up in your thoughts isn't going to help us now.}

"Class 5C?" A small woman with a vaguely Mistralian accent appeared and calls out before you can respond to the AI. The conversations die silent deaths, scrolls are put away, and everyone eventually turns to face her.

"Ah, I apologise for the wait, but we're ready for you now. If you would follow me?"

Gods yes. Making it out of this room was slowly becoming the number one priority of most of your class, and now you have your way out. It's no wonder people almost rush the poor woman. You follow her through halls and corridors until you reach a set of giant double doors made of solid wraith oak, white as Grimm plating, and twice the size of everyone here.

Shade: Eggshell White- 2 shades off Grimm White

With a tiny smile that, in immediate retrospect, you probably weren't supposed to notice, the tiny Mistralian woman places a single hand on the seam of the door and gives it a light push. The gargantuan doors shift with no hesitation, moving at Schrödinger's pace, paradoxically moving quite fast and at a snail's pace at the same time, simply because of their sheer size, but opening all the same. Behind doors one and two is a sandy area, around which you can see the very edge of sets of tiered seats. You almost begin to wonder if there isn't some kind of trickery here.

Density: 20.63 kg/m³. No Mechanical assistance detected.

Wait, really? That's all? You could probably lift that over your head.

{Great, now I feel self-conscious about my weight.}

"Woah..." You hear one of your classmates murmur, awestruck by the doors' movement.

Which, is fair, honestly, they are still very impressive to watch.

As you and the others walk through the doors, you realise that you're now in the part of the Coliseum where all the magic happens.

You remember coming here with your dad to watch a spectacle match when you were 13. The crowd shield failed and you almost got beaned in the face with a flying gauntlet. The fighter let you keep it as an apology, then choked out the other guy with his ungloved hand just to prove he didn't need it.

Best. Birthday. Ever.

You blink slightly as you realise it's... a lot bigger from down here. The walls around you are white metal, as you'd expect, but they're... tall. You look up, craning your neck to see the top of the wall, judging it to be at least-

Height: 5 metres

... Jeez. That gauntlet is even more impressive, now.

Overall, the place gave you the feel of... a Coliseum, obviously, but with the aesthetics of a medical clinic. Sand beneath your feet, but white, almost sterile-looking walls all around, and tiered seats above that. You look up and see your teachers sitting and standing about up in the middle tiers, looking out over you like emperors of bygone times.

{Heh. Look at you, waxing poetic.}

Eventually, people follow your gaze and spot them too. Once about a third of them have done that, Professor Moss leans over the side of the railing, his hair following and dropping over his shoulders like an inky waterfall- an inkfall if you will- and begins to speak.

"Ahem." He coughs, the acoustics of the building carrying the small sound to everyone else, grabbing the attention of those who haven't noticed him yet. "First, I would like to congratulate you all on making it this far- it has not been an easy 3 years, for most of you, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The life of a Hunter is not easy, and treating the training as anything less important would be a disservice to the job you intend to take."

He begins walking, still keeping one hand on the rail while the other begins gesturing as he talks.

"As some of you may know firsthand, this job is dangerous- one in five Hunters will die by the end of their first year out of Beacon, or a similar battle school. As such, we have decided to, ah, simulate that fact here."

People start to look at each other nervously. Which is fair, that was… pretty ominous, as statements go.

"I'll make this quick, I'm sure you're rather anxious to proceed- instead of one-on-one battles as you're used to, you will be partaking in a... battle royale of sorts. You will be fighting each other with everything you have, using the scroll system as per usual- however, the first…" He takes a second for a quick headcount- "twentyeighttwentyninethirty- The first six to fall, will be considered 'dead.' You will get no recommendation for Beacon, nor any other school. If you wish for such, you will take remedial classes through the summer, and, if you do exceptionally well there, we may reconsider our lack of recommendation. If you should, by some miracle, fail those as well, then you will either be repeating a year or seriously recommended a different line of work, depending on the level of failure."

His face is severe, doing his best to make it crystal clear that this is a threat he'll definitely go through on.

Murmurs break out among the rest of your classmates, ranging from anxious worrying about whether or not they could pass to the odd derisive comment about who would fall first.

"Pfft, I bet the cream puff goes down like a bitch." You hear someone behind you say. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Creme flinch a little.

Emotional response of target- hurt, self-consciousness, minor long-term damage to confidence. Overall chance of ranking 24th and below: 38%, Margin of error +/- 4.2%

{Wow. Dick.}

Alert: 56% chance target will be singled out for prompt elimination- possible assailants marked.

You bristle a little as the ass who said it in the first place and one of his equally ass-looking friends light up in your peripheral vision. You might not like Creme as a friend, you barely know her, but she made it here just as fair and square as anyone else. She's a little annoying, sure, but singling her out? Fuck that, you dislike that even more than the girl herself.

{Even less.}

Fuck grammar and the Dust train it rode in on.

Another cough to grab your collective attention and Professor Teal continues from where Moss left off. You didn't think her tiny voice could carry over from the emperor's box like it does, but it does. The small, frizzy-haired waif of a teacher started to lay out the carrot to Moss's stick.

"A-ah, however, the last six standing, will be given immediate recommendations to Beacon, or any other school of their choosing- e-essentially, a guaranteed entry. The rest of you will be ranked based on your ability and, er, rank, and recommended accordingly."

The murmuring grows to a proper conversation, now people have been shown their incentive.

"Hey, hold on-" Creme started, shaking off the insult from earlier. "If this is based purely on who comes in the last six and the first six, that means that we could go down because of a lucky shot, that seems really unfair-"

Moss cuts her off with a raised hand.

"Life is unfair, Miss Daylaw. The life of a Hunter, regardless of skill or talent or equipment, can be ended by one 'lucky' Nevermore feather to the jugular. Luck, love it or hate it, is very much a part of your life, and will continue to be. Just hope that it is on your side, or that you have the skill to overcome it if it is not. Now, don't think we didn't see you playing about on your scrolls out there to stave off boredom- plug them into the charging stations provided, and take a few minutes to prepare, make deals, and ask any questions of us you might have."

Oh, thank God. You walk to one of the newly revealed divots in the walls, a bit further away from others, and plug your scroll in, resting it in the divot proper as you do. Once the small diamond in the centre begins to glow, you turn back to the teachers just in time to hear a very interesting question, with a very interesting answer.

"Wait, what do you mean by 'make deals?'" Mini-Moss asks.

Mini-Moss, real name Salem Sini, is called Mini-Moss for two reasons. One, he's a carbon copy of the good professor, and two, he's five foot two.

Conversion: 157 centimetres

Blink. He's cool with it, though. He's cool with... pretty much anything, honestly.

The nondiminutive Moss leans over the railing again, looking down at his mirror image.

{It's one of those weird, funhouse mirror things, but it's still a mirror.}

"Exactly what it sounds like. A good Hunter does not turn down assistance. So long as you're prepared for the eventuality that you will have to fight each other, feel free to make alliances as you will."

{Well. That's... helpful. At least, it would be if it didn't involve you having to talk to people.}

You glare at your sword for a moment, before moving on, thinking on what you should do.

(Pick two.)

[] Ally()- Go find someone to help you! Alliances are allowed, and as long as it's just two or three of you, you can make it into the top six without having to turn on each other. But who? (You can pick this twice.)
-[] Creme- You... don't know much about her, but she's got a fuckoff huge hammer, axe, cannon thing, that she wields like an artisan when she focuses. Which, she doesn't do often. Besides, she's gonna get singled out by people for some reason, and that... it doesn't sit right with you.
-[] Mini-Moss- Cool with his nickname, and cool with his weapon- a cavalry saber that becomes a proper sniper rifle, alongside a backup knife/pistol combo. Simple stuff, but brutal as shit if you underestimate him.
-[] Someone Else- Go for a wander, see if anyone else catches your fancy.

[] Modify()- You want to change your loadout. It's gonna be a pain in the ass without your workshop, but you... think, you can manage it. (Field mods are possible but messy. No upgrade or passive slots- those need your proper tools.)
-[] What's going where? (Character Sheet with available Functions is now up and threadmarked! Hopefully.)

[] Enemy()- Scout out the competition. Gain insight into two other students that might be useable against them later.

Bullies don't deserve to go to Beacon, and sticking with Creme gives Jaune an easy shot at them. Of course, that means that Jaune's going to need to check out the people who will come after him.
