You do imagine it, and, having sparred with Nora, wonder if giving her your workout routine might be a bad thing for the other students in your year.

This better not be a reference to what I think it's referencing.

X]Transistor- it was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too intelligent. Indeed, it was a raw heap of crystalised math. (Bonus to damage on account of using the kind of weapon barbarians have to stuff their hands in their pockets for, penalty to movement because, yeah.)
-[X] Centre Mass- WATCH IT CRUMPLE. (Hit chance: Base 70%. 50% chance of crumpling on hit.)

[x] Razor Shield- you bring a virgin weapon to this eternal battlefield. It is inevitable that it will not stay that way. Baptise it in smog, and its name shall come to you. (Bonus to movement on account of not carrying the barbarian marital aid, penalty to damage because you chose the only formshift gauntlet not really meant to be used on its own.)

Oh wow. Ada might just be my favorite character in quite some time.

I want to pull the shield. But more then that I want to watch an Ursa get it's ribcage shattered.

Ada! Why you teach nice cell bad words! This team continues to be amazing.

Hoping we end up with like a slow-mo cap of the ursa crumpling like those crash test cars. Only wetter.

Maybe Jaune has a crippling fear of bears which limits him from intelligently drawing upon his usual combat training? :)

Edit: Alright, changed to a normal vote.

She also taught it to use them to stop panic attacks... This has so much potential for hilarity in future.
This gives me another omake idea but I've been at work for 14 hours so I'll just have to pray I can hold onto it.

Edit: also someone tell me what @Muroxxas thought I was referencing my curiosity is killing me

What was Leathers screaming as he careened into the distance, anyway? And why?
Zog is, in 40k at least, the Orkish equivalent of the fuck word.

As far as why, partly because Leathers' family is from the Remnant equivalent of deep Alabama but with football hooligans rather than, Deliverance, and partly because I wanted to create a character whose aesthetic actively goes against RWBY's grain of one massively overdesigned weapon and outfit, and making him an Ork expy with caveats was the path of least resistance.

So, having several days to stew on this argument and its predecessors actually gave me some perspective, and the answer overall answer is saying it was just a perfect storm of shit going wrong may have been... overcorrecting.

While that is still the case, the simple answer is that even if Glynda hadn't just had her hands ruined along with her ability to use her Semblance, Jaune wasn't unconscious and therefore unable to use his Aura, rendering any attempt to arrest his flight likely to break his neck...

They probably would have let him fly. Like- they sent the same boy, in canon, with no Aura and nothing but armour that didn't fit and a weapon that just didn't make the cut anymore, into the Emerald Forest and expected him to survive. In the end, that's not much better than sending a boy with a malfunctioning sword that's still pretty much a claymore in its own right, fairly strong Aura, and was still conscious by the time he was launched, into the Forest and expecting the same thing.

Are they hardasses? Yes.

Is Ozpin at least partly responsible for Jaune's predicament? Yes.

Will he take responsibility for it in some way? fucking flip a coin my dude-

Damn good odds of hitting, and on a coin flip we crumple it. Pretty sure most things don't respond very well to that.
Crumpling here is, well- you ever seen someone get punched in the liver?

If you haven't, a liver shot is basically one of the easiest ways to incapacitate someone outside of making their brain and skull kiss, because blunt force trauma to the liver is excruciatingly painful- sometimes to the point of passing out cold. You see, the liver's containing capsule is essentially a bag of nerves which, upon realising the liver has been struck, force every blood vessel in your body to dilate, cause your heartrate to decrease, and suddenly your blood pressure drops like a stone.

When your blood pressure drops like that, and your body can't increase it in some way to keep a flow to the brain, it just drops the body to the ground in the hopes that the brain will still get something.

Speaking from experience, it's not like your legs turning to jelly, it's like your legs just don't exist anymore. You drop to the ground, and you're perfectly conscious as your body just shuts down, unless it's bad enough to make you black out, then, yeah.

Ain't fun to be on the receiving end of, I'll tell you that for free.

That's what you're hopefully doing to this.

... Hilarious to watch happen though.

Question, though, Prok: will attacking the Ursa with Transistor impair its self-repair abilities or cause it to take longer to regain functionality?

I mean..."oh hey, my impossibly advanced one-of-a-kind AI/computer is in the worst state I've ever seen it, and the AI is barely clinging to life...TIME TO START BEATING GRIMM TO DEATH WITH IT!"
Oh, hell no, your sword's durability is still on par with good steel. You could probably take a good whack at chopping down a tree before it actually showed any signs of wear and tear.

Trust me, it can take out a few dozen Grimm. Frankly, there's nothing... strictly stopping you from completing the Initiation like this. It wouldn't be particularly fun for Jaune, and God help you if you run into anything that can fly. But yes, you can absolutely get through most of the Initiation with just your crystal greatsword.
Oh hey, Jaune is doing so bad he's hearing broken BB code :V

So why isn't there an option to summon the Process and have it murder stuff for us? Can we not summon it right now?
Fixed, thank you, and because Jaune is playing it safe. This isn't the first time his sword's been rendered unable to do its job, there were quite a lot of teething problems in the first year, but this is the first time it's happened with the Process available and outside of a controlled environment that offered as little stimulus as possible.

Oh, and Prok, you might already be aware, but the Zombie Knight started up again in October. Woot.
I am!

... You know I wonder if I should actually bother shilling the official unofficial fan discord here, but then I realise that probably just about everyone who's interested in the novel is probably already there.

Did somebody say "omake"? I think somebody said "omake".
Aaaaand threadmarked.

Poor Lumen lol.

And just think, he's going to have to live in the same dorm room as this shredded super-nerd for the next four years. If it's a blessing or a curse, nobody knows.

Hope Lumen likes cold showers.
I shouldn't take as much pleasure in that as I do. AND YET HERE I AM. ENJOYING IT LIKE A GOON.

Oh thank god people like it

I agonised over whether or not to include that, purely because it felt... I dunno, too silly/stupid, even with the explained logic, then at some point around 5 am one night I realised I was being a coward and threw it in anyway, so the fact that this worked out is a relief for me.

Anyway, Centre Mass is the clear winner here, running away with 24 of 31 votes, but I'll leave the votes open until 8pm GMT tomorrow just in case people change their minds.

It has the best odds and by all accounts will hit like a fucking truck. Why on earth would we pick anything else?

Ada is great because she's a half wreck held together by swearing and insanity.

Like, the fact she decided that she'll leave her socket open just to freak people out is great.

People never seem to realise that of course you trained to lift this thing.

Lumen stares at you, surprise raising his eyebrows and slackening his jaw slightly. You only just catch the slight blush in his cheeks, made stark against his pale skin by the morning sun streaming through the trees.

Odd. It's not that warm out here.

I heard Jaune was shredded.
I heard he had an eight-pack.

Poor Lumen lol.

Well, I guess that means that literally everyone in Jaune's team is a potential.... Wait a fucking second.

Prok, is this Quest the equivalent of a Dating Sim?

IIRC Prok's answer to the question of romance was, to paraphrase, "I'm gonna throw as many options at you as possible and use the following chaos to flee"

JAUNE SMASH PUNY GRIMM

What's that? This is RWBY, not Monster Hunter with a Greatsword? TOO BAD WE'RE GOING FULL NERD RAGE ON THIS INITIATION.

EDIT: If I can help it, the last thing Salem will ever see is a fuckhueg sword made of pure math being swung at her face at terminal velocity

Just think, punching the Ursa would be even cooler and more effective if we had the chainsaw. Ergo, the chainsaw would have been more useful then the razor shield in 100% of all live combat situations we've been in so far since setting up our loadout. Ergo, the chainsaw is universally more useful and better then something silly and impractical like a sharp edged shield. Statistics don't lie. :V
