[X][Transfiguration] Earthly Cloud Sharpening Law

The clear crafting option, in my opinion (with Petrificus Totalus being the clear fighting one and Lumos being utility). The blurb itself already mentions modifying our shoes into ice-skates, and that's just one (clever) example of many. Given our artistic nature and our magical bag that helps gathering and crafting, this makes the most sense to me.

[X][Transfiguration] Earthly Cloud Sharpening Law
[X][Home] Through gritted teeth, you'll prevail over yourself. Your own advice once given to Hermione still rings true - if you're unhappy, either change the circumstance or yourself. Since changing the whole world is a bit beyond you, you'll need to change yourself.

Yeah we still have the crafting bad so maybe we'll get a bit more out of it with this choice, and having a skating scene on the lake seems like itd be fun. Lumos came close though.

For the second one I went with what mentality seems best, and this appealed the most out of the options. Realistically she should be able to find beauty and pleasure in the mundane world, it just may take more effort but its not worth deadening yourself or shutting yourself out of the experience. Our mom after all graduated Hogwarts so had much greater sensitivity yet choose a less magical life.

It doesn't seem so complicated?

Earthly Cloud Sharpening Law is not about materials, its about function. It Pierces, and so is basically the Sword Cultivation analogue, it makes anything stab better, such as the treads of your boots into ice.

Dollmaker's Petrification Diagram Law renders things immobile. Its not clear whether this is about making them more like stone(and thus Earth aspected), or about controlling living things(and thus Life or Mind aspected), but the name is a bit of a clue. If you're looking for a crafting related one, its not bad. 50/50

Humble Light Bringer Law is the most clear one. It creates light. Its Light aspected.

Only because folks wanna talks to Sue Li *grumble grumble*

I refuse to lose two art votes in a row dangit :V

I've been pushing the art option since the gallery. Hell, I might have created it with my Write In, or inspired its appearance! So I feel your pain on that front. XD

But as a first technique, and one that requires quite a bit of mental stretching to be connected to art, I'd rather have something immediately flexible that we can use creatively. Lumos, at least in its basic form, can be replaced by mundane items. Charmed ones, too, more easily than the others.

But you forget that there are Arts to include in this system, and a hint at larger categories beyond that. While I doubt that starter techniques such as these can themselves be developed to extreme levels (that differ drastically from their basic original ones), I also doubt that they fall under a single category with no crossover/varying paths whatsoever.

Edit - For example, something from the Sharpening Law could go to the Monsoon Arrow Art (piercing seems more significant for arrows than swords, but the latter work too, which could be relevant since we already use a Claymore), to the Rainbow Chiseling Art, to the Heavenly Surgeon Art or what-have-you. And who knows about the categories above!

Or, putting a different spin on it, it's possible that a Sharpening Law would fall under the Material Manipulation Art with other laws that involve other aspects like shapes, texture, etc.

Changing to this. Since it too can be used for many things including art/crafting.

The tea cup slicing a circular hole in the table is neat.

Now I want a painters brush talisman that can be used to pain illusions and stab monsters.

Transfiguration vote is hard because I like the light and its connotations light, revealing, illusions, truth, humble, and possibly helpful when studying. But on the other hand the earth is matter manipulation, crafting, and if necessary probably more helpful in combat. I wonder if any could be help full for quidditch?

As Keepers, hard to say. No point in making the quaffle sharper (if that is even possible) since that would just hinder/harm the teammate we pass it to. But maybe our Claymore and relative flight would benefit from the effect?

No way would Petrificus Totalus be allowed, but for the Lumos, can you use the light to distract the opponents? Sounds improbable to work, or way too easy to abuse if it does (blind them, make them think it's the faraway snitch. etc.), so likely regulated/punished.

Oofies, this was a rough one.

A very fitting one though, I think? I can believe this is something that happens to a lot of non magical born mages.

But we're no cowards or quitters.

Make ourselves sharper for better aerodynamics? :V

I think we should try it.

Potentially, if one of our teammates has mastered making things less sharp, we could still do sharp passes and hope they can reverse it as they catch it? That should surprise any opponent who tries to intercept them.

What's interesting to me is that neither Lumos nor the petrification feel very transfigurationesque to me in their initial forms, so I'm interested in seeing how either of them develop. How would light transfiguration even work for instance?

I think cultivation verse magic is a lot less literal than canon magic.

Transfiguration here means changing what something is rather than how it is. Which is a lot more far reaching than the shift of shapes and materials we see in canon. It seems like it operates on the metaphysical level.

So you take a stone, you say "this stone is a light source" and you let the world sort out the how :V

@Karf I'm aware Transfiguration has multiple breakpoints, so will we be able to choose the one we didn't take at a later date, or are we locking ourselves into one main route for Transfiguration?
