origins I
1920's Germany is a dangerous place. the great war end two years ago, an end that saw Germany's defeat, had left the state fractured and crumbling. the newly minted Weimar republic is made of a multitude of factions and ideologies, bound only by the frail democratic laws and traditions that were put in place two years ago. the hated treaty of Versailles forces a great burden on the republic, and many voices call to quit it, whatever the price may be. many claim the treaty was an act of betrayal, put in place by traitors to stop Germany's encroaching victory in a facade of defeat.

as outrageous as the theory is, it has an effect on the people already struggling against the pricey defeat. with the economic crisis that dominates the land, it is hard to stop these conspiracy theories from gaining a hold on the hearts of desperate and struggling people who only need something to believe. extremists and nationalists are on the rise, and the state of the republic looks grim.

in such circumstances, with a weak, fractured government and a divided, desperate populace, great threats rise. nationalistic militias, terrorists, and various other violent factions try to promote their own ideologies with whatever means necessary.

but now rumors of something new are whispered. it started in talks from Britain, about a mysterious woman who fought criminals with a sword and armor, claiming she was a fey princess. in the beginning, those rumors were discarded without thought. people had more important things than such nonsense. but in the two months since the rumors first appeared, things went even crazier. more reports of the mysterious 'fairy knight' appeared, even if unconfirmed. and as it went on, more rumors appeared, both from other countries and Germany itself. now, even if most won't admit it, many believe the talk of those mysterious defenders of the law in Germany, waging a war against the criminals and violent militias in the name of those who couldn't.

indeed, this is no nonsense at all. superheroes and supernatural abilities appear everywhere, and such appears in the city of Berlin. he is not the first of heroes, but he may be the one this crumbling country desperately needs.

Welcome to the quest! first of all thanks to @Oshha who let me use his amazing world and explore it a little more. as you probably already understood is a quest set in the world of Oshha's dawn of heroes(and @Doomed Wombat 's rising to the call) but takes place in another part of the world, the struggling Weimar Republic, with its own heroes and dangers. of course, this is Oshha's canon. and I will try to follow it as closely as possible. he has the final say about anything I establish

while this quest will have the focus of politics featured in Oshha's quest, because of the different country, the focus will be more on nationalism and extremism, that are very prominent in Germany of this time, rather than the imperialism and corruption of the British empire.

I want to explore the different countries' reaction to the appearance of superpowers, and Germany is perfect for that, with its clashing ideologies and frail republic which make a great setting for this and is very different from British well-established law and law enforcement and relatively stable politics. I want to explore how this more struggling country will be affected

the character creation will follow the general lines established in Dawn of heroes, with a few small changes to later parts. hero from elsewhere is someone coming from outside human society, while the best of humanity is a human(or someone thought to be human), yet has superhuman abilities.

Selar's housemate, friend, and the first person she met on earth, Anna is the daughter of Frank Schwarts, one of Germany's wealthiest people and most influential politician. A talented medicinal student, Anna has been noted many times as being highly influential and charismatic. She is kind and good natured, yet adamant in defense of her beliefs, and intends follow her father into politics one day. Because her Jewish heritage and her father's position, Anna became a target for Attacks of the Warhawks, which made Selar go after them in order to defend her friend.

the hero appeared from far away, coming to Germany from a distant realm unknown. he came for reasons mysterious to us, from places no human knows, for the hero is not a human, or at least, not one like us today

no, he came from a strange and different land, from an exotic culture incomprehensible to most.

he may be human, but one from a place so different that he has no connection to modern civilization. or, maybe, he is not a human at all, but something else, wonderful, terrible, or just strange, yet different either way. what, if so, he was? the story shall tell

with his strange origin, came powers. powers some may consider intimidating, dangerous, or even terrifying, yet the hero shall prove a boon, not a terror, on Germany, and his powers a source of hope for the common civilians. but what were those extraordinary abilities?

and together with those powers, there were the skills he possessed. some extraordinary, some maybe more mundane, his proficiency in them was a great boon to him always

[]broad skillset- you are a jack of all trades. you have a multitude of skills, and a wider range of powers, but in return, your ability of each of them is lower. you have a good ability in your focus areas, though still not expertise, and some dabbler abilities at many others. due to the additional effort given to learning multiple skills, you will have somewhat fewer and weaker powers. you will be able to perform somewhat well on your own, and will provide good support to a group, but sometimes you will have to rely on more specialized allies for harder tasks.


---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------well, here we go into stage 2. here you will choose your actual origin and powers, though I might veto things that don't fit the story I am going for.

in addition to your powers and origin, you need to choose whether you are specialized or broad. this will have the most effect on skills, some affect on ability ranks, and a relatively small affect on powers and advantages.

you might want to find some friends either way. with specialized, you might need to cover your bases, while broad might need some specialized help.

of course, you won't be able to have ally help on every mission, but neither option leaves you completely incompetent in any area.
 
Origin requirements
Can you post a list of things that are allowed or are not allowed? That would be helpful in coming up with a plan that would work. Sorry for the trouble.
It is alright, I think it can be a good things to have. So, here we go

Requirements of character:
1)humanoid body. You don't have to look exactly like a human, but things like an orb of energy or a superintelligent shade of blue are not allowed.
2)you need to have some sort of combat ability. This could be derived from a thing other than your powers, but having a non combat outsider superhero character in the the 1920 Germany will end badly.
3)you can't have a major former knowledge human society. Basic knowledge is okay, but having mapped out Berlin and surveyed the current state of Germany not. You have knowledge of an outsider, though you may be an educated one
4)you must have had existed before arriving on earth, Or have another source from which you have gained your skills, knowledge, and at least extremely basic knowledge of life(not human society knowledge, but really, really basic things, which most would learn as child's in one way or another).
5)lastly, your powers need to be able to work in the Mutants and masterminds rules, simply because they are the mechanics used to run the quest


There is no ban on human characters though, as long as they come from outside human society, from somewhere unknown to the rest of the world

Also, it is interesting that every plan is based on alien origin. It is the type of superheroes I am the least experienced with, so I might have difficulty to handle this. It shouldn't be that terrible, and will probably improve with time, but do note that there might be a few problems at first

    -[X] [Origin] Your starship detected odd readings from this local pre-spacefaring world and so you investigated, retrieving a deceptively primitive artefact that clearly has capabilities beyond its apparent appearance and certainly safer in the hands of your own people than the local sapient species. Unfortunately, those blasted Sektain shot you down and the resulting crashed caused an unfortunate reaction between the artefact and your overloading power core that left you...changed. But hey, at least you are still alive even if you are trapped on some backwards barbarian world and have some strange new powers.
    -[X] [Powers] Your newfound abilities left you fuse two things together, including animals, people and even yourself. The two targets become one single entity with a combination of traits from the two targets and the exact combination can vary depending on what you want. For example, fusing a man with stone could leave him human, but with the durability of stone or it could give him the texture, appearance and immobility of stone, leaving him as what is effectively a statue. The only drawback is that you can only use your power every ten minutes, whether it is to fuse two things together or to defuse something back into its original components.

    [X] Ahl the Wanderer
    -[X]You are Ahl of Rhens. You happen to posses some abilities that your people consider dangerous and so you are often sent of far flung exploration missions. This time you were tasked with the exploration of newly discovered terrestrial planet. You were given a ship capable of hyperspace travel and sent on your way. Putting in the coordinates you were sure this would be another uneventful and dull trip. Unfortunately your ship decided that it would rather malfunction than work properly. You were trapped in hyperspace for what was simultaneously an eternity and a second before barely managing to escape. The good news is that you have arrived at your destination, the bad, your ship is wrecked and it appears that A LOT of time has passed since you embarked on your journey. There are now sentient creature inhabiting this planet, and you are stuck here.

Origins 3
The earth. A beautiful blue planet. Full of cool waters, rich earth, and life. A bubble of air surrounds it and keeps this paradise alive. Long it was believed that this paradise was the only place life exists. Now this was about to change, as through this protective bubble, a figure rushed down at enormous speeds, coming from the vast beyond.


When your consciousness appears, you are surrounded in darkness. Warm, fuzzy darkness. Everything is alright, everything is peaceful. Like lying in your bed before waking. Your mind is fuzzy. Who are you, actually?

Origon, you think. This is your name. You are a Seran.

As this fundamental piece returns, more information starts flowing into your mind. You are Seran, yes. one of the many races occupying this galaxy, yet your race is not withoit it's own abilities, unique parts setting him apart from other beings.

arc 1: arrival part I
the first feeling welcoming you to new life is a blank void. warm fuzzy darkness wrapping you like a blanket, protecting you from reality.

then memories flooded back. you were Selar, a Seran adventurer from the Valan empire. you were hired to explore an old ruin at Alpha Centauri Prime, where your employer believed there were artifacts of a powerful ancient civilization.

you found the artifacts, but you also found out the ancient empire didn't intend to give up its treasure easily. a fleet of gigantic drone ships woke to life as soon as you recovered the artifact, and you were forced to run


you decided to try and evade through the uncharted Sol system, hoping the barely known coordinates will confuse the drones. in a risky maneuver, you decided to stay close to the sun, so the powerful radiation will hide your ship's signature.

then, when you were convening to discuss your next move, there was this explosion and a powerful flash of light. and you could remember nothing more


a powerful rush of air, suddenly felt across all your body, finally tears the screen of darkness, and you are shaken. Dahran of the void! you are stranded across the atmosphere high up, so high you would probably have died if not for your racial traits. and you are falling, the entire land stretches beyond you. it seems this planet is inhabited, since you can see tiny forests and primitive fields beneath, stretching to the horizon, dotted by the tiny points that probably mean rather large cities. damn it. you had your share of deadly situations in your adventures, and you were pretty sure you would find your death in one or another, but plummeting to your death falling through the atmosphere was not one of them

you try to grasp yourself, to keep rational, but against such a terrifying, unavoidable prospect your best attempts are wasted. and what would it matter? you have nothing to latch into, and no way to slow your fall. you had a jetpack on the ship, but of course, you had to remove it to rest a bit!


so instead, you close your eyes, waiting for your death, trying to gain a bit of serenity that was so missing in your life, before the impact comes. perhaps some miracle will save you. but such thinking is dumb. no one will help you here, in this remote place.

and then everything goes black again and your consciousness is lost.

when your eyes open, it is morning, and you are at what seems like a rundown neighborhood, in a primitive city. you are shocked you opened them at all, given the state you were in when you closed them. quickly, you get up, incredulous but wasting no time, letting the cold morning wake you up. the rising sun is not very different from your childhood sun on orion, although everything else is, as you quickly notice. checking yourself for wounds and finding none, you turn to examine the area. you are at what seems like a small alley, with large buildings made of concrete on each side. the rest of the area seems filled with garbage and some broken glass bottles, at which you smile.at your homeworld, actual glass bottles are something that you would only see at museums dedicated to ancient civilizations, but it seems this world is not so advanced. not surprising, actually. trying to remember the very little you know of the inhabited planet of Sol, you shake your head. there is a disappointing scarcity of information given how little visited is the system. you remember the civilization here is quite primitive, at early stages of industrialization. they call their planet earth and are interested mostly in internal wars among their own. overall, they are considered mostly harmless.

a scream wakes you from your thoughts, and you quickly turn your gaze to the entrance of the alley, expecting some fight. instead, you see a middle-aged man, looking in terror at your light blue skin, clad in a tight black nano-cloth made to keep you warm and protect you, with your energy sword handle dangling from your belt. apparently, the people here are not used to galactic visitors, which might make you quite scary for them. you get into a defensive position, ready to fend off a possible attack, which sends the man running away, screaming something about a blue monster.

well, he just ran, and you doubt many will take him seriously. but if he saw you

first, you need to see what you have. you start with your clothing. it seems your nano-cloth has been torn quite a bit. no actual private bits are shown, but neither does it cover much more now, which probably only increased the man's panic. and also explains why are you feeling the cold.

your energy sword still worked, which was good. a wide metallic handle with a guard turning toward the blade at the edges emitted a deadly broadsword-like blade of pure energy which was, to the best you could determine, just as powerful as always and showed no malfunction. your force field armor, operating from a small device on your body, sparked a bit, but it was nothing you could not fix with a minute of tinkering.

just as important, your disguise ommiter seems whole, despite the damage to your clothing. it is a small chip embedded into your skin, though easy to remove with a pull, leaving only a tiny cut. it was fine overall, though you will need to do a few repairs and reconfigurations before you can use it safely. the last piece, the translator, was another chip worn on your ear. it was likely working fine, since the few words you overheard from the street sounded clear, not an incomprehensible jumble of static noise.

your communicator was broken, and so were the scanner and the computer. but overall, you were in a good state, with a powerful weapon and defense, as well as equipment that will be very useful surviving here. certainly better than the expected mesh of flesh on the ground. no, you remind yourself, focus on the moment.
now what you do next. from your mental senses, the streets seemed very crowded, likely with people going to work, which means the stream of people would lessen in a few hours. you could wait in the alley, maybe configure your disguise. of course, someone might come here eventually which means you will need to deal with him

or you could go out. the sight of aliens might disturb some people, but you don't necessarily need to care. if you need to, you could always find a disguise. it will certainly draw more attention, but also more information, among other things, which means you could find out faster your next course of action. you are not going out of here in the near future it seems, so you might want to see what is going on here.

you could do it more subtly maybe. you are a good sneak, as well as an athlete and acrobat. it won't be easy, but you could travel on the roofs and higher ground to avoid being detected. this will limit your search, but you can keep a low profile while still being active and finding a better place to hide.

whatever you decide to do, you need to make a decision. there is no point wasting time.

[]stay in the alley. find a good place to sit, preferably protected from the cold. wait a few hours for a better time to get out, and use your time well
-[]try to listen in to people on the street, possibly even read their minds
-[]try repairing your nano-cloth a bit. you can't restore its protection, but at least you could make it a bit more modest and less torn

[]travel on the roofs. try to avoid attention while finding out things about the city and the area, and find a better place to plan further

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------and with this, we are formally out of char gen and starting the story. this arc will deal with Selar's learning about her new living area and getting accustomed to Berlin, as well as starting to establish herself as a superhero.

no option in this vote is better or worse, so no need to calculate risks this time, not this early at least. this is just the direction you want to see the story going. that won't be true for future votes though, just this early one.

also, I wonder if anyone caught that small reference to a well known book in the update. point it out if you did!
