[x] Dauntless, Assault, Battery, Velocity, Miss Militia

You walk over to the adult Protectorate members, who seem to just be discussing recent news and events rather than anything specific. Assault in particular seems to be sharing cat video's through his suits comm systems. However they all stop as you approach, Assault himself giving a wave when you approach.

"Hey Huntress, Weaver! Glad to see you both here."

Weaver starts a bit. "Oh, thank you sir!" She says rather quickly.

Before they turn to address you you take the opportunity to inspect Dauntless and Miss Militia. Both were wearing one of the spares you made of their costumes. Dauntless however was lacking his signature equipment and looked quite under equipped without it. Miss Militia on the other hand was as armed as ever, constantly shifting weapons as she was wont to do.

"So, you two doing alright?" Velocity asks, and Weaver shuffles awkwardly for a moment. "I'm... okay. How are..." Weaver trails off.

"We're alright, don't worry about us." Dauntless says kindly, and Weaver shuffles more.

"Are you sure Dauntless? I heard you moping about in the armory about your Lance." Assault teases his friend. "They could have took my legs but why my arclance! It was my true loOW!"

Battery withdraws her hand from the back of her husbands head. "Tell Judith that was for her Dauntless."

"Will do." He replies with a laugh.

"How about you Huntress, how are you holding up?" Miss Militia suddenly asks.

You don't respond.

"Huntress-? Oh damnit, we're being called in."

"Finally." Velocity says. "Think New Wave was about to leave."

Huh? But they'd be getting armour.

You aren't given much time to consider why they'd leave as one of the Overhead doors you figure is intended for receiving materials. As one all the Capes outside make their way inside, Vista helpfully reducing the raised entrance into a small step for those that lack flight or super-strength. Inside... well it's a big concrete box. Federation technology and more than a few bits you're certain is Tinker technology is bolted onto the walls. Pressed up against said walls however is the heart of Armsmaster's and Dragon's operation. Great machines hum away, sealed in protective armour plating. They take up the majority of the factory, the lights and holographic displays casting a cool glow across the large space. You suspect most of it was Tinker technology, but you do see standard civilian grade parts, an entire section seemed devoted solely to accepting material for use in construction. Following along from there it was pretty clear the entire operation was set up on a conveyor system.

Sure enough, at the end you can see a Standard Federation Light Infantry Armour Crate emerging from the end, held aloft in a tractor beam. In total there seemed to be about twelve of them, stacked up neatly.

The center of the room was dominated by a maintenance bay that reached all the way to the ceiling. Retractable blast doors had been installed in the ceiling, clearly intended to be the quickest way for the machine held inside the maintenance bay to exit.

And what a machine. It was a bipedal robot, over six meters in height. Two modified Federation Heavy Energy Cannons were held in its grip, with upscaled Energy Bayonets integrated seamlessly into them. You recall what a Heavy Energy Cannon can do quite fondly. Just one of those can reduce a Space Pirate Trooper to ash in only a couple hits, their rugged design allowing them to be fired continuously without worries about overheating or technical fault.

But that wasn't where it ended, oh no. Two shoulder-mounted multi-missile systems were clearly visible, each of those could fire a plethora of missiles that you suspect could either saturate an area or track enemy units. Noticeably, sandwiched next to an advance propulsion system was what looked like to be a cannon of some sort, mounted onto a flexible arm. Judging by how it was set up you figure this heavy weapon folded out, One of the Heavy Energy Cannon's integrating with it, probably as an extra power source. Judging by the size alone you suspect it was intended to put very big holes in anything stupid enough to be in its line of fire.

The whole mech had a stylized, lizard design. You knew it was Dragons theme but at a certain point it seemed a little silly. Of course, you didn't want to hurt her feelings either, and at least you knew she was competent enough to keep things as wholly cosmetic.

Then again, you'd seen online other dragon suits and you have the subtle impression Dragon is a secret hoplophile. You're perfectly fine with more firepower and admittedly there was probably tons of tinker tech you don't understand in there but come on, you're a skilled enough engineer that you can tell when someone is building a design solely to fit as many weapons as possible into X amount of space.

However your attention is drawn away from the mech to the object floating beside Armsmaster, Mouse Protector, Director Piggot and her PRT Guard.

An Arbalest Class Multi-role Orbital Insertion Vehicle or in simple terms: a Federation Drop Pod.

Huh.

Well, yeah it was obvious that would be here but it was still something you didn't fully expect them to produce.

Naturally, you scan both.

  • Information on notable Artificial Intelligence's encountered in Samus's travels.

    • Mechanoid: Fafnir class Dragon-suit
Heavily armed but fragile combat robot.

Based on what information could be gathered on the Golem class mechanized armor suit the Fafnir suit merges Federation and Tinker technology, as well as a few pieces of Dragons own design. Equipped with two Heavy Energy Cannons with integrated Energy Bayonets, a multi-missile system and a Fusion Cannon. Advance propulsion system is comparable to the propulsion system equipped on a Cestus-class fighter. A Federation Biotech computer allows Dragon to easily interface with the suit, while a secondary Standard Federation Combat VI (Or a "Dumb" AI) helps Dragon process the rigors of combat, and can provide limited combat capabilities if Dragon is compromised in some fashion.

Due to the limits of the current techbase and lack of resources the Fafnir suit is comparably fragile to similar equipment found in Federation space, with a far weaker shield system. While it would prove excellent in an anti-infantry or anti-light armor role it would perform inadequately against heavier weaponry or dedicated anti-armor.

      Arbalest-Class Multi-role Orbital Insertion Vehicle
      GFDF DP-051
Arbalest-Class Multi-role Orbital Insertion Vehicle, otherwise known as the Arbalest Drop Pod, is a common sight on Federation worlds. While it can be used as a Drop Pod by Federation Troops teleportation technology makes this redundant. Its primary use therefore is to equip Federations Marines, Police and Militia members with armor and weaponry, deliver equipment straight to the battlefield, resupply ammunition and provide defensive measures to protect Civilian and Combat personnel.

As the primary function the Arbalest will equip a wide range of species with a Federation Power-suit in moments. It is highly recommended any and all clothing, jewelry, datapads, holoprojectors, Omnitools, Sonic-Screwdrivers, handheld weaponry, communication devices, eyewear, cosmetic appearance modifiers and other items are removed from the user before using the Arbalest Drop-Pod as such items will be consumed in the equipping process. A Privacy force-field screen will be deployed, as well as a hopper for personal item storage which will be dispensed in a storage container beside the Arbalest. Items will be deployed back on to the wearer on return of the suit, please make sure storage container used is your own.

If user is in an immediate combat zone it is recommended that the user forgo any attachment to personal items and immediately equip a power-suit. When user wishes to return suit basic standardized clothing options will be created for the user from the local environment. Cybernetics, Prosthetics or robotic bodies will be mostly compatible with the Arbalest.

To engage system the user must step into the Arbalest, at which point they will be sealed in. A Standard Federation Light Infantry Armour Crate that is loaded into the Arbalest will be consumed and the user will be rapidly equipped with a Federation Power Suit. If one is not available the Arbalest will load any nearby crates into its system using its tractor beam.

A standard Ammunition and Supply system is available. To use insert weapon system or appropriate system into front slot. Ammo will be restored using materials available in the local environment. If authorized equipment is available they may be uploaded into the users suit.

For civilian and military defense the Arbalest is equipped with a Heavy Shield Generator, an Explosive-Disarmament field and a directed EMP blast. Civilians are recommended to remain inside the field projected, which will be clearly visible. Shield will only offer limited environmental protection.

Arbalest's possess basic AI systems, and have an anti-gravity system. Many Federation worlds have these Drones patrolling the streets, ready to serve as the first line of defense in case of attack.

Yep, definitely an Arbalest.

While the others are gasping at the machines and Mech you take up position in front of the Director, Armsmaster and Mouse Protector. The PRT guard was standing nearby, looking impassive while holding a grenade launcher. Mouse waves at you and you give a small nod in return. For a moment it looks like she'll walk over to talk to you but the Director clearing her throat causes her to immediately straighten up, clasping her hands behind her back. Hmm, looks like the director had a microphone tied to the factory's intercom system.

Everyone quickly crowds around the Arbalest, the adults of New Wave eyeing the floating pod warily.

Then the Director speaks.

"New Wave, good to see you accepted our invitation."

"You can thank Glory Girl and Shielder for convincing the rest of us to come." Brandish replied with an oddly cool voice. Did she not like the Director?

The Director simply pressed her lips before continuing.

"As you are all aware the gangs have recently come into possession of large numbers of Tinker-tech weaponry, and as I'm sure you've heard-" The Director pauses, looking straight at Gallant who shuffles awkwardly in place. "We've recently discovered that this weaponry is extraterrestrial in design. What you may not be aware is that this organisation that has made our streets so much more dangerous has far greater assets than simple guns."

Piggot nods to Armsmaster, who walks forward. Holo-projectors light up and an image of the fiery monster that attacked you appears in the middle of the room. Glory Girl and Shielder noticeably gasp while the other members of New Wave just stare at the moving, lifelike image.

"This is a cloned Parahuman, genetically modified and cybernetically enhanced into a living weapon. It possesses no consciousness, no desires other than fulfilling its objective. It appears the missing Capes have been used in creating mass-produced bioweapons on a level we haven't thought possible."

"Mass Produced?" Manpower asks. "What makes you so sure of that?"

"Its DNA shows considerable degradation consistent with large-scale cloning operations. If I had to guess I would put the numbers produced in the tens of thousands. However they are incredibly unstable, I imagine the vast majority of clones produced are currently deceased." You helpfully provide.

"What... how...?" Lady Photon starts to ask.

"I can show you the genetic sequences if you like!" You say happily. Yay science, it makes everyone feel better.

"Thank you Huntress." Piggot says with an oddly pleased look on her face. "This thing in particular was encountered when it tried to assassinate Huntress, however with the assistance of Weaver and Vista she managed to defeat it."

"WHOA WHOA WHOA! Someone's trying to kill Huntress!?" Glory Girl shouts, inserting herself in the middle of everyone.

"Oh yes, At least twice now!" You explain. "But do not worry. I killed all of them."

"Twice!? What the hell happened the second time!?"

The hologram shifted, revealing a normal person. That is until their body transformed, revealing a gaping maw and long talons.

"This is an infiltration synth." Armsmaster explains. "Whoever this organisation is they've been using it to replace people throughout every sector of society to progress their goals. This includes selling weaponry to the local gangs. When I located the primary warehouse for the weapons in this city I took Huntress with me. We were ambushed by several hundred of these machines, each capable of handily tearing a normal person apart. Suffice to say thanks to this armour and with Huntress's assistance every Synth was destroyed."

"And why exactly are these things trying to kill Huntress? She's just one girl." Brandish observes.

"You know of the Chozo and their artifacts yes?"

"Been all over the news, how could we not?" Flashbang replies.

"As you are aware Huntress was raised by the Chozo. What you are not aware of was that Huntress has been genetically altered to be biologically half-Chozo. She is the only living organism on this planet capable of interacting with Chozo artifacts without dire consequences. It is reasonable to conclude that whoever this organisation is intends to use Huntress to take control of the Chozo artifacts on this planet. You may think this seems overkill considering their demonstrated capabilities but I assure you the Chozo possessed technology beyond our wildest dreams. This organisation could unleash untold destruction if they were to get control of even a single one."

Suddenly you're aware that every eye is on you and you resist the urge to shrink away. "Yes, the statue the PRT has secured alone is capable of destroying the planet. They would likely try to use me to control it and many more. "

"Wow Huntress, you've been dealing with that hanging over your shoulder all this time?" Laserdream asks. "Glory Girl, did you know?"

The blonde shakes her head. "No, I... holy fuck."

"Yes, it is quite a horrible situation." Piggot says. "And to be honest we are horribly outgunned against these bioweapons. A single one of those Fiery monsters appearing could very well spell the death of every member of the Bays Protectorate and Wards."

You notice Glory Girl was holding Gallants hand.

"We've all fought Lung, surely this isn't too different?" Lady Photon says.

"Lung is human, with human wants and desires. These things are programmed only to cause untold destruction, willing charging into their own deaths if it has a chance of killing their target." Armsmaster factually states. "However, we finally have a countermeasure to this and it all has to do with this machine."

He steps aside, letting everyone get a clear look of the Arbalest. "This is an Arbalest. It is a multi-function drone intended to supply and equip Galactic Federation troops in the middle of combat operations. Huntress, if you would kindly demonstrate."

You nod, stepping towards the machine. You casually insert your Arm Cannon into a slot located in the front of the Pod, causing the machine to whirl to life, light pouring out from the slot.

  • A list of Samus's arsenal.

    • Originally based on a Federation design. The Seeker Launcher allows you to fire upon multiple targets simultaneously with the Missile Launcher. Charge missile to lock onto up to five targets. Missiles will fire as one salvo but will otherwise behave like normal missiles once fired. Increases Samus's total missile count by [05]

Samus Note: Great for dealing with multiple foes or taking down one particularly strong one. But I need to watch my missile count while using it!

  • A list of different Visor Types.

    • The Thermal Visor upgrades Samus Aran's Heads Up Display with the ability to see in the infrared spectrum. Hot objects are displayed in bright colors, and cool objects are dim. Samus uses the Thermal Visor to identify the weak points of certain foes, to see in the dark, and to improve visibility in poor weather conditions. Enemies with internal temperatures which do not vary greatly from their surrounding environments are difficult to identify through the Thermal Visor.

Samus Note: Do not use in a Volcano.

Neat.

"Thank you sir, I'll put these items to good use!" You say cheerfully, and walk back to the group. Immediately you're bombarded with questions about what you received but Armsmaster starts explaining again.

"Now, while Huntress can not demonstrate in here she has received additional equipment and integrated it into her suit in seconds. All Federation weapon system will work similarly when using this. However it is not the main show today. As you can see I am wearing a Federation Power suit. This suit not only gives me strength comparable to high-end brutes but it renders me practically immune to even tank-fire. In fact with the enhanced reflexes I could have a non-zero chance of slapping a tank round out of the air with my hand to no ill effect."

Shielder lets out a low whistle while the Wards and Protectorate are mostly silent. Well, you can see them texting each other on your HUD but you strongly suspect Armsmaster explained this to his teammates already, and you know it filtered down to the Wards. Though you kinda explained it to them as well...

"What's more, with this machine here it can be put on in moments on anyone. Mouse Protector, if you'd demonstrate."

Mouse Protector nods, though you hear her mutter. "God I hope this things Privacy Screen works..."

She walks up to the front of the machine, tapping the holographic button floating just off the front of the Arbalest. Instantly a holographic display pops up, and Mouse Protector taps the options she wants. Instantly the machine comes to life, segments folding out. An opaque forcefield surrounds Mouse, cutting off your view of her. It takes a couple moments before it disappears as the Pod seals shut, a small circular timer appearing on the front of the machine. A field of energy is suddenly projected from the Pod, enveloping one of the Standard Federation Light Infantry Armour Crate's. It lifts into the air before floating into the back of the Pod, panels folding out to seal it inside.

A moment passes, then another before the Pod doors swing open.

A silver clad figure steps out, bright blue visor casting an azure glow on the crowd staring at her. Mouse moves with ease, but you see her stop for a second. She rolls her shoulders, before looking at her hands, flexing and unflexing them. "Holy cow, so this is what it's like...." She mutters over her external speakers. "Uh wow... that's a lot of tutorials popping up. Huh." She reaches down, unclipping her rifle from her leg before holding it easily in her hands.

"So uh hey guys, this is... the coolest thing I've ever done. I mean... wow... I thought it'd itch or something but this is something else. Man, want to throw a car or something."

"I would suggest not trying that Mouse." Armsmaster warns. "While most people can pick up using a power suit rather quickly it still takes training to get used to a power suit. The suit will only activate its more advance features as you complete the necessary training. You can bypass it early but that has a large chance of resulting in serious injury or paralysis until you can be healed. The suit however is well designed, and won't cause user death."

He then looks at New Wave. "New Wave we are offering free training and Power Suits in exchange for cooperation rooting out this organisation that is trying to kill Huntress. You will be the first people to use these suits alongside the Brockton Bay Protectorate and Wards until we can begin mass production of them."

Brandish crosses her arms. "That's a decent pitch, but we won't be bought just with shiny trin-"

"Bought?!" You shout incredulously. Every eye turns on you, and you realize what you had just done.

UGH! You and your impulsive mouth...

God damn it brandish, this isn't about what ever you think it is, it's about arming yourself against an escalating gang so you and your kids don't die.

Kinda wish we had some options here to choose from instead of a write- in though. Open ended votes don't tend to go well at all.

So that's why the drop-pod was chosen. orbital drop or not, that equipping is useful.

So Samus is insulted that Brandish implied, well stated, that the Protectorate is bribing them for their cooperation.
I think we need to emphasize to Brandish that these are for their own protection, so the clones and droids don't butcher the entire family. Their shields will be sundered, their 'invincibility' outmaneuvered, and all that will come from fighting these threats, whether they seek you or you seek them, will be friends Samus cares about and their family rendered into so much meat! So take the armor and go help Samus and the Protectorate by being heroes.

Uh... It's in-character for Samus?:confused::oops:

Can we do a demonstration of our standard power beam, or of the spazer beam if we cannot temporly downgrade? Ideally against something like a pig(To simulate a human, any other kind of meat with a structure/ballistic gelatine can work too), then a car, and then a robust cement wall to demonstrate the power of our shoots, and then against someone with a Federation Armor. The dimonstration should suffice to say that, no, we aren't proposing "Shiny Toys", but a way to survive blows that would melt peoples.

Does Samus still have a recording of what happened to Vista after she got shot by a blaster? We could show it to them, after getting Vista's consent, so we can emphasize that of all the features being able to survive a shot like that is its primary feature.

You can suggest it, sure. But all you'll have access to are garbage bins, since there's no butcher anywhere nearby and Piggot won't let you shoot someone's car.

Yes, she still has it.

That would be the xray visor, not this one.

Sometimes I wish we had older Samus who had annihilated planets, species and ancient evils. "Meh, it's Wednesday"

Maybe if we explain this is bog-standard Federation equipment, not particularly special at all?

Frankly I'm wondering what hole Brandish had been living in these past few weeks. Does New Wave just not patrol anymore? I thought these new hero-killer weapons were everywhere; how have they not run into them yet?

Tentative vote. Phonetyping is not conducive to making vote plans

[] Take a deep breath to calm yourself
[] Ask Vista if it's all right if we show what happened when she got shot by a Federation blaster
-[] If she gives consent, project the image for New Wave to see
--[] Explain that this was the effect of a Civillian grade federation blaster. Blasters that were distrubuted by dozens, if not hundreds, to street thugs.
---[] Emphasize that these Power Suits are being given to them to prevent the same from happening to them.

... aaaand I haven't got a plan on what to do if Missy's uncomfortable with showing her injuries then to New Wave.

I think it's more Brandish resisting being put under the Protectorate's control and their 'ideology' of openness. She sees the PRT has holding the wunderwaffen method to fight these threats, which she's only just now heard about*, and saying the only way to get them is to fall in line.
She's wrong, but Piggot's probably pushed this kind of spiel on her before enough so she's right to be somewhat skeptical.

*This is different from the blasters.

Presumably the whole thing will end in New Wave walking out and thus getting a varying extent of killed or maimed because we couldn't into diplomacy with one of the most biased, stubborn women in Worm.

Only problem I can see: The New Wave kids'll probably be sick, thus alienating the parents. Maybe just show it to the adults.

So Brandish seems to be doing standard devaluation tactics. Unfortunately, or not, only thing Samus can do right now is show that we care about outfitting New Wave, heavily damaging our bargaining position.

Brandish knows that she will have to take the suits and work with Protectorate as result, but that doesn't stop her from trying to get various benefits such as access to healing boots and whatnot.

At best Samus could make good enough argument to make other members of New Wave take the deal as it is and circumvent Brandish entirely. However, that is not likely to happen.

Question is, what exactly is Brandish after and, more importantly, are we ready to give it to her.

As I've said above, I don't think it's material goods Brandish is opposing.

It's not something Samus, as a Ward, can promise/give: Independence. Remember why the Brigade became New Wave? Transparency and opposition to the Protectorate's methods. 'Working with them' to Brandish sounds like joining up, being folded in and becoming part of the machine. Samus is in no position of authority to make promises of how New Wave will be treated. She can only give testimony about the necessity of the equipment, its potency, and the consequences for not taking it, whatever the cost.

I mean, who knows. There is various shit she could be after, ranging from additional resources over favorable logistics to less oversight to fucking marketing rights.

There is really not much to do besides going full Samus and hoping that rest of New Wave jump on friendship train.

It's what most lines up with Brandish's characterization as outlined in Worm. It's called a Reasonable Conclusion, not Wild Mass Guessing. If you have an actual counterpoint and evidence to support it, I am all ears.

All right, I think I got something.

[X] Ask Vista if it's all right if we show what happened when she got shot by a Federation blaster
-[X] If she gives consent, project the image for New Wave to see.
-[X] If she feels uncomfortable about the idea, ask Dragon to show the autopsy and medical reports on the victims of federation blasters.
[X] Explain that this was the effect of a Civillian grade federation blaster. Blasters that were distrubuted by dozens, if not hundreds, to street thugs. Not capes; unpowered, ordinary, dime-a-dozen, scum-of-the-earth thugs.
[X] Emphasize that these Power Suits are being given to them to prevent the same from happening to them, and in turn, the civillians they are all trying to protect.
[X] All at the cost of settling organizational and personal differences, so they can work together and eliminate the cause of this situation in the first place.

Could use a lot of trimming, I think.

[X] Are you so arrogant to think this is a way to control you? Without these, You. Will. Die. There is no question of this. We are all heroes here, we have sworn to protect the public above all else in an official capacity like the Protectorate or because we believe it is the right thing like New Wave. Do you truly believe anyone here cares more for their ego and pride than the fate of the planet?

Brandish: *points at Armsmaster*
Armsmaster: *points at Brandish*
You can take Armsmaster out of that for the most part, one of the recent fights reminded him that the shiny armor was not a toy to play with. Yes he can always claim he was just making sure it would work by testing, but he got a swift kick in the rear. Brandish is the one who still needs it.

Doesn't matter. Brandish doesn't know that, and she's the one we're arguinyg with.

Reasoning for this vote:

What New Wave got earlier was a lecture on all the new threats the Power Suits were supposed to help handle. What Brandish needs is a strong visual example of how serious this situation is, and now is not the time for inter-office strong-arming and dick-waving.

They are not being oppressed, they are not being asked to be absorbed into the Protectorate, we just want some goddamn help on finding the masterminds behind these threats.

While the autopsy and hospital records might do well by itself, using what happened to Vista is more effective I think because 1.) It happened to a cape 2.) It happened to a local cape 3.) It happened to a Ward. It puts the idea that not only they might be on the unpleasant end of those blasters, it might be their kids who'll be rushed to the nearest Pod Clinic.

While she might think their powers would help them handle one blaster-toting druggie, would it withstand a whole posse firing at them?
