Moments of Victory and Shade Finale
Michael Marcenes speaks with his soul open and body in full regalia. He could not stop what is happening…not truly.
But he could keep it from starting for just a little while longer.
It was all he could do now.
"By hook or by crook Ghiren will have his war. You know it, I know it, and we're all too old and too political to claim otherwise. Not even death will stop this because he's built a brand, a legacy, an inheritance with the Zeon movement. No matter where it started, in good faith or bad, it's Ghiren's now." It was the simple honest truth in your tone.
Whatever good intentions Zeon Deikun had started the movement with, it has long been replaced by greed, demagoguery, and xenophobia for their fellow man.
A Chosen people. A righteous people, a PURE PEOPLE! All characteristics of a demagogue of the last decades of the Anno Domine, hell the demagogues of the 20th century would weep at the sheer power and control over the minds of the population, the ones that stayed that is.
Even the sheer rhetorical arguments…carefully crafted to appeal to a sense of patriotism to an idea that isn't even his…
Evolution? A Superior Race…asinine and barbaric.
Yet it spoke to the primal hatred within the hearts of man.
"What we're here to do gentlemen is delay. By any means and by any method that doesn't betray our oaths and basic human morality. If, God willing, we do it long enough maybe we can find a way to solve the conflict that doesn't consign billions to death for greed and/or pride." You continued.
No matter how hard we try…we can't outrun our nature.
We want this…we need the wars to come to cull us, to end us…because humans WANT to war with each other…
Its all we've ever known…all we've ever wanted to know.
"You all have come here today from different planets and different colonies because you all feel the same as I do, fear the same as I do. We have seen conflict gentlemen, and in that conflict we have seen death dealt with the speed, ease, and in numbers that is only second to plague. We have yet to see war."
Not a true war, not the ones that leave a section of a continent as a mass grave.
Billions dead and an entire species picking up the pieces.
At least at the end of the Unification War, we escaped our home to the stars above.
"Some of you I have called friends, some colleagues, a few even enemies if only by circumstance. I will not demean this council by claiming some kind of moral high ground. I ask in good faith 'what can be done', I plead with a clear voice 'one more day', I weep to the almost certainty of 'not enough'." You continued.
Not enough…it was never enough these days.
We're marching headlong into the abyss for pride, just like before.
"Know no matter how this council ends that Orthys will do it's best to save not a government, or a movement, or an ideal, but the parts of the human race it can reach and the basic humanity that threatens to be consumed by this coming war, but we can't do it alone."
Ghiren is willing to condemn his people and the entire earth to make a point, and spread his poison and apathy to the rest of space…and here we are huddled like cowards wondering how to stop the tides and winds.
At best we could hope to get half a decade, it would be enough to at least give the Federation and Avalon a fighting chance for the rest of us to get ready.
Earth wouldn't survive…but we can never be certain of how many of us are left.
Its all we can do…hope.
"Help us or don't but there will be something after the fires burn out on all our homes, if only a soot-stained monument to all our sins."
You then took your leave, to sit down, and think upon everything you were willing to do to keep something resembling the illusion of peace.

A Small Boon: D100 => 91
Degwin Zabi nodded as you allowed him to enter the small apartment. " I cannot help you stop the war to come…the means to stop it now are beyond my grasp now."
"Yes, Ghiren's taken great care to steadily erode your power and influence over the state, he knows you carry great symbolic value…and its easier to run things from the position of number Two then the face." You said.
"Perceptive as your family, as it were…If only you lived here maybe you would be able to check his ambition?" He mused.
He then handed you over a file. "Technical and Tactical readouts of Zeon's military and fleet capabilities, they'll be out of date in a decade or so…but it will allow you to plan around it…for what little you can."
You almost smiled. " I know…why?"
"I'm old tired man…I've ordered the deaths of so many…but even I'm not cold-blooded enough to start a war. Tis a waste of humanity and my Son has no humanity left to give a shit." He said.
"Why not just kill him?" You said.
"Belive me, if I could I would…but that ship has long passed.

A Dog and the Mayfly: D100 => 90
"Thanks for the good time weirdo…" Cima said.
"I'm glad…" Yuri said.
"Maybe once things settle down, maybe we'll see each other again on Mars?" She said.
"Looking forward to it." He finished.
