Ever read a really good fanfic but then realized that the author is never coming back to it? This is the thread for you.

Thu'um of a Distant Utopia

A Fate/TES Skyrim fic (which unfortunately didn't last long at all) which had Arturia taking the place of the Dragonborn and giving canon (related to the civil war) the finger by starting her own nascent faction from the survivors of Helgen.

Matters of Faith

Features legitimately one of the best twists I've seen in fanfic. Shinji/Rei, but hasn't progressed much beyond holding hands (how lewd). Unfortunately, it's coming up on a year since it was last updated, so it could well be dead (which is a shame, since it was just as things were ramping up for the climax), but what is there is still worth a read.

Decay of Innocence by Penna.Pretereo

A FO:NV retelling of a good natured totally not murderous female Courier who just doesn't want to kill anyone and wants everyone to get along!

Still murders everyone but at least she's nice about it! Probably the funniest NV fic I've read.

I'd nominate Shall Never See So Much, by Spotlight Delight. The prequel, We That Are Young, is complete however.

A FMA story focusing on Roy and Riza's youth. It had to play fast and loose with canon sometimes, seeing as the story started while the manga was ongoing (after tome 15 was released, at the very least), but it is a great portrayal of the characters, who you see becoming closer and closer of the ones we know in canon, while they started entirely different. The first story had all the elements of a good tragedy, and given the quality of it, I deeply regret that we will never find out how the second arc would have ended.

If you're curious, it's still 300k+ words, if you take both stories.

Comes The Cold Dragon's a pretty classic example of this. (Ranma continuation, very good and well-written. Someone claimed to be the original author on FF.net a few years back and tried continuing, but it was clear that they weren't.)

CtCD was already going off the narrative rails as of the last few chapters.. any continuation would almost certainly have to involve re-writing.

I'd rather have more Shadow Chronicles.

Honestly, the fics I most want to see continued the most are mostly stuff largely obscure to SV. I doubt anyone else here has heard of The Infidelity Project. And Beta Testing is probably well as truly dead.

I would kill for a story about Mat and Tuon's post-Taim Gaidon adventures though.... Sadly, Author Existence Failure.

For Thy Mantle by Primordial Soul

Turns out 'Refusal' was the right choice. Shepard was able to shut down the Reapers, GTFO of the Catalyst alive, and save all the Citadel races, incliding the Geth.

'Course that was just the first test. Now, Shepard has to deal with the consequences of her actions in a Post-Reaper galaxy while facing the onslaught of the newly awoken Reclaimers.

And boy are they not nice.

In a fan fiction that strongly mirrored Halo 5 before it was even announced, For Thy Mantle was perhaps the best Halo/Mass Effect crossover I've ever read. The choices had dangerous consequences, the characters on all sides were flawed, and it had a gripping story that made you wonder WTF was Shepard gonna do to get out of this mess?

The only bad thing I have to say is that a) it's dead, and b) the antagonists are awfully pretentious. Though the latter is probably intentional as it managed to be exploited by Shepard.

It also has an interesting rewrite of the Mass Effect 3 ending as well as the Citadel DLC of the same game.

I know it's a not universal opinion, but I really liked Avatar of Victory. Best realized fusion fic I've ever read, and AtLA/ME works together well.

The Watchman » by MadHat886
One of the best watchmen stories that i hold dearly in my heart, but sadly the author stopped and abandon it. It will always be a amazing story, and well i AM a big fan of the Watchmen comics. I highly recommended if your at least curious of this. It will have a decent amount of interesting moments that would be very surprising.

Sailor Moon 4200by Angus McSpon was a very good Sailor Moon fic set after the fall of Crystal Tokyo and dealing with the Senshi reincarnating in the new society that rose over the ruins of Tokyo. It was damn good, but was last updated in 2010 and the author's blog was last updated in 2015. Damn shame.

Saga of Soul was a very good original fic by @sun tzu, starring an intellectual magical girl in the modern world who gets drafted by the queen of the fairies to fight a war against extradimensional horrors that want to destroy humanity. It's pretty good, but it last updated in 2013 and the author has shown no interest in continuing it.

Huh, i just noticed @midnightmissiles deleted that. And her entire FF.net archive.

Eh, you can probably still find it if you dig hard enough in BL.

Pardon the correction.

Make it Count (1 + 2) by jeandabean.
I think it might've been the first fanfic I read, and might've been in the middle of reading when it disappeared completely.

Might've been a stock-standard HaloxME crossover, with Jorge from Reach coming in to wreck shit, but it was grammatically sound and still new to me. And I can't even go back to see how it holds up because it's gone.

There's still a few references to it floating around, including an entry in Murazor's list of dead fics, but the link to the author profile was blank for the longest time, then led to a different name. Oh well. I remember it, at least.

Quite a goddamn few, but for the sake of brevity (And not because sorting through my FF.net favs is too time consuming), have two.

First up, Iron Rebirth, ME fic, has Shepard resurrected during the Lazarus Project as a mech, which is a interesting idea.

And the only good ME/Halo crossover, ME: The Reclaimers.

My number one is Nobody Dies. Gregg is still around, but i doubt it will ever get completed.
