So to get this out of the way. This is my first time writing a story so expect some errors. And you may see something that may or may not be realistic. If you do, you have every right to complain but don't expect it to be hyper realistic, this is fiction pure and simple so don't expect the natives in this story do die off from other world plagues.

2011:
October 5th: a third explosion is reported at the old Chernobyl power plant. Several minutes later a massive emission like never before seen occurs which ends up decimating the unprepared Ukrainian military. Local news channels quickly report the phenomenon as the Ukrainian government scrambles to contain the situation. With most of the military around the zone decimated the local mutant population escapes into the Ukrainian wilderness. The situation would then snowball out of control from here on out. This emission like never before seen would coin the term 'super storm'.
October 15th: Reports of mutant sightings begin to occur with some as far as the city of Chernihov.
October 23rd: several people including a foreign tourist are reported missing by local authorities.
October 30th: A German tourist and twitch streamer, in the city of Chernihiv who was vlogging at the time is ambushed and killed on camera by a mutant [later identified as a bloodsucker], local authorities arrive to find a humanoid mutant eating his corpse. Local police manage to kill the creature and confiscate the evidence of the crime scene. However the camera was still on and said streamer was live streaming the vlog, meaning that thousands of people just witnessed a grizzly murder on live stream.
November 1st: News rapidly spreads of the 'bloodly broadcast' as its called, spreading wide scale panic and international concern over the mutants, the Ukrainian government begins damage control and tries to contain the already rapidly escalating situation.
November 5th: The Ukrainian government confirms that the mutant that killed the tourist [later identified as hans muller] matched the same mutant from the infamous chernobly exclusion zone or 'the zone' as its called.
November 9th: Several more people are reported missing, this time as far as Rivne and Kiev. The Ukrainian government struggles to contain the situation, even worse was that mutants were now spotted in Belarus.
November 20th: the situation again spirals out of control as it has been confirmed thanks to international scientists that the zone is expanding in size at an alarming rate, already reports are filling in of the Ukrainian military engaging mutants in the Desna region. Russia threatens intervention 'if the situation isn't properly handled'.
December 1st: the zone expands in size threatening to engulf the Desna region, already local stalkers have offered their services to the Ukrainian and Belarusian governments.
December 15th: The city of Chernihiv and becomes a battleground as mutants and local forces alongside the military try to restore order as chaos engulfs the city.
December 23rd: The zone expands into Belarus with the city of Homyel under threat.
December 29th: Mutants are reported to have been seen near the Polish border sparking international concern.
2012:
January 5th: With the situation out of control the United states and UN call for an international meeting to discuss the problem.
January 9th: after days of back and forth debate it's decided that peace keepers shall be deployed to both Ukraine and Belarus in order to contain the situation.
January 15th: Ukrainian military units get into clashes with a stalker group known as monolith sparking international attention on concern.
January 20th: the city of Chernihiv falls along with a few other minor cities.
January 27th: UN peace keepers are deployed to the Ukraine and Belarus in order to contain the situation.
February 5th: Monolith forces stage a hit and run attack on a UN convoy, the attack overruns with convoy with monolith forces making a getaway with various weapons and equipments.
February 17th: Kiev falls into anarchy as a hoard of mutants have got into the city via the sewer system. Some government officials are killed in the ensuing anarchy but most manage to flee to the city of ternopol.
February 25th: Most of Northern Ukraine and southern belarus is under threat or been engulfed the zone. mutants have also been spotted in both Moldova, Poland and Slovakia.
March 1st: The united states of American along with NATO call for an emergency meeting.
March 12th: The zone reaches the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk.
March 24th: National unrest rises after the Ukrainian military begin setting up strict laws. Making things worse was that the stalker were running free both in and out of the zone with some getting into firefights with local authorities.
March 31st: Mutants are reported to have been spotted in Germany.
April 4th: Shock grips the world after a series of terrorist attacks hit Hungary, Moldova and Poland. The death toll combined is estimated to be over 200 hundred with hundreds if not thousands of people wounded. Shortly after, monolith claims responsibility for the attacks.
April 17th: The zone once again expands in size, already it is reported that the zone is now the size of the US state of Maine.
April 28th: National unrest in the Ukraine explodes as the people finally have enough of the sloppy handling and strict rules put in place by the military. Ternopol falls into chaos as rioters and military forces duke it out in the street and buildings.
May 3rd: The remains of the Ukrainian government flee to Hungary where they proceed to set up a government in exile.
May 10th: The rest of the Ukraine falls into anarchy as rouge military units carve out their own states.
May 19th: The UN struggles to find a solution while the international scientific community desperately tries to find a way to fix the already rapidly spiraling situation.
June 15th: Belarus falls into anarchy with Russia deploying troops into the region in order to "protect ethnic Russians and innocent people from bandits and mutants" .
June 30th: Another emission like never before seen hits the city of minsk, destroying some of the infrastructure in the process.
July 13th: The zone reaches the Odessa, already million of people are fleeing, Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltics due to fear of the zone and the mutants running wild.
July 15th:The polish city of krakow is hit by a terrorist attack thanks to monolith agents.
July 29th: It's confirmed that the zone has reached the Borders of Lithuania.
August 5th: The zone now stretches from the Ukrainian city of odesa to the borders of Lithuania. This large tract of land is nicknamed 'the corridor'
August 29th: Lithuania nears collapse
September-December: A massive project nicknamed 'The wall' is under way. The project details a massive line of fortifications from the polish city of Gdansk to the Hungarian capital of Budapest to the Serbian capital of Belgrade to Sarajevo.
2014:
January 19th: The Russian military marches into the Baltic territories in order to 'protect the people from bandit brutality', The US government threatens intervention. The Russian government calls their bluff.
February-April: Fighting breaks out between the Russian military, stalker factions and Baltic government forces/nationalists.
March 15th: The zone expands into Slovakia, Moldova is mostly overrun with mutants and anomalies.
May 5th: The second winter war breaks out after Russian military forces get into a firefight with Finnish military units.
May 19th: The Russian military enacts a conscription law, this proves to be unpopular with the wider Russian population, a few days later another terrorist attack by monolith forces hits kalinigrad. The Russian government uses this as an excuse to crack down on protests.
Late may-late July: Fighting breaks out between Finnish and Russian military units, the Finnish military uses guerilla warfare to devastating effects, many foreign observes say it's 'history repeating itself'. During this time Sweden joins NATO out of fear of Russian invasion.
August-November: 'The wall' is nearly complete.
2015:
January-march: Romania and half of Poland is overrun, The nearly completed 'wall' hold strong against the Mutants.
April-may: The wall is complete. Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Serbia launch a complaint saying quote 'the west is leaving us out to dry'
June-August: Another lull in the fighting in eastern Europe happens.
September 12th: The zone engulfs the Baltics and Romania.
November 25th: Russia and Sweden get into a border skirmish that soon spirals out of control. Both countries declare war on each other, NATO votes to join the war against Russia.
Late November-Late July: China, Iran, North Korea, Brazil and south Africa declare war on The USA and NATO. NATO, The USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Morocco, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico declare war on the Iron pact. [Russia, China, North Korea, South Africa, Iran].
2015:
January-march: The allies [USA, NATO and their allies] begin to draw up plans for an attack, however it's soon scraped due to the zone. So for now the current plan is to win by making Iron pact forces bleed.
April-July: a period of eerie calm occurs between tow sides as both spend this time gearing up for war. This period is referred to as 'the calm before the storm.
August-October: Iron pact forces steamroll over the remains of Eastern Europe, ironically the wall which was used to keep out mutants and anomalies proves grate against Human armies. Iron pact forces try to find a way around this.
November-December: Iron pact forces quickly use the Nordic countries to get around, Norway and Sweden desperately try to hold the line.
2016:
January-march: Iron pact forces breakthrough Norway and invade Denmark. the Allies scramble to counteract this.
April-may: Allied forces are forced to redivert forces from 'the wall' in order to combat Iron pact forces.
May 29th: Battle of Hamburg begins as German and NATO forces hold the line against the Russian onslaught.
June 17th: the Polish city of Gdansk falls as the Russian navy and air force smash the city to pieces.
August 5th: Czechia and Slovakia falls to the Russians.
September-December: Russian forces breakthrough the wall causing mutants to swarm into western Europe.
2017:
January 5th: Hamburg falls to the Russians.
February 19th: Poland is overrun
March-June: The middle east explodes into violence as ethnic, religious and political unrest become too much for the people to handle as they take their anger out on various minorities.
South Korea holds the line at Busan with the Help of ANZAC, Japanese and American forces.

2034:
January: The zone overruns Most of Europe and north Africa save for the UK and Ireland. The Russians in order to deal with the manpower loss begin to forcibly recruit from the remaining European population.
North Korea is liberated at a high cost by allied forces.
February-August: Chinese forces invade the western seaboard of the USA, already the surprise and shock wear off and soon Chinese forces are stopped at the rocky Mountains.
2035-2036: US, Canadian and Mexican forces consolidate their forces for one massive push to retake the east coast.
July 4th: The 4th of July offensive begins as US-Canadian-Mexican forces storm over the rockies and into occupied territory.
August-December: Chinese forces fight tooth and nail in occupied American in order to make allied forces bleed.
2037: February 7th: The Chinese government is overthrown in a military coup due to most of the military being unhappy with how 'soft' the former party is. Already with most of the Chinese military kicked out of North America with San Fransico and L.A being their only holdings left.
April 5th: US forces reach the outskirts of L.A and San fransico. Only to everyone's shock and horror as nuclear bombs are dropped on the two cities by Chinese forces even with their comrade still inside said cities. And it's not just those cities but Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle, Santa barbara, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland and Salem oregon go up in nuclear flames. Millions die in the blast and millions more from the fallout.
Outrage gives way to reason as mass protests and hate crimes against Chinese-Americans skyrocket. However the US government refuses to resort to nukes claiming 'we're better then this'. A few days later US military forces storm the white house and arrest the president. an Ultra nationalist government is installed and soon nukes fly in southern china.
Most of the cities in southern China save for Hong Kong and Maccau Are hit with nuclear weapons. The military junta calls for an 'eye for eye' approach but the people manning the nuclear silos not wanting to start a nuclear apocalypse lie by saying that the allies have 'hacked into the silos'.
The Chinese junta is also not happy with the needless escalation with most in the military arguing for a peace.
March-august: The zone engulfs the middle east and half of steppes.
September-December: The US and UK intelligence service arm Tibetan and Uighur rebels with the help of India.
2038-2040: During this time the border with Korea and China is atomized in order to avoid invasion by the allies. Vietnam and allied forces capture Hainan after a few months of bloody combat between both sides.
India after a lull in the fighting launches the largest counter attack since ww2 with millions of ground troops and tens of thousands of tanks storming into Tibet. This causes rebellions in Tibet and Xinjang to explode.
2041:
January-April: Rebellion explodes in inner Mongolia causing China to divert time, resources, manpower and supplies which caused the Allies to make big gains.
Russia collapses into a 4 way civil war between government forces, Democrats, Communists, and monarchists after the people have had enough of the war. Making things worse was that most of their military stationed in Europe go rouge due to them recruiting from local populations.
The zone engulfs central and southern Africa and makes it ways to Eastern Asia.
The only ones left of the Iron pact are China and Brazil. For the allies it's Mexico, Canada, America, Japan, Ireland, The UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan and India.
2042-2045: The zone engulfs western Asia as Xinjang and Tibet successfully declare independence. India, wanting to expand its borders in order to deal with the overpopulation, forcefully annexes, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
The US population already tired from the war stages mass protests, the ultra nationalist government orders the military to open fire on protesters much to the disgust of everyone. In response, Canada and Mexico make a peace with china, Brazil also makes peace with the allies. India and South Korea or Korea as it's now called follow suit.
America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Britain are all that's left.
The zone reaches South America causing mass panic in the New world.
2046: The US population, tired from the war and already fearful of the zones expansion and the ultra nationalist governments totalitarianism. Rebel against the government, Texas, California, New England, Alaska along With Nevada and Utah succeed.
The US national guard in Texas defect to the Rebels, Not wanting to fire on their own people, similar scenes play out in California, New England, and Alaska. The Rebels in Texas, New England and California form a united front in order to secure their independence.
The US military inside D.C finally have enough with most already believing that they have failed the founding fathers ideas of liberty. These forces nicknames the 'constitutionalists' arrest those responsible for starting the war. Shortly afterwards a similar situation happens in China. The provisional Chinese and US governments agree to a ceasefire. The US government allows the rebels independence as a form of atonement for what the US government did.
New England, Texas, Alaska, California, Deseret [Utah and Nevada] declare their independence.
The zone reaches North America.
2047: Texas, New England, Deseret and California form the alliance of New world countries in order to protect themselves from both the zone and from Hostile countries.
The Texan governments begins to create an army using a mix of uptime and downtime equipment.
2048-2054: The zone engulfs the world but the nations around the globe still live on. Massive mechanical domes are built over cities in order to protect the populations from emissions. This is done thanks to the help of artifacts and stalkers. Duty, Freedom and monolith rise in power, having significant sway in world governments. Though the latter of which is not very liked by nearly every world government due to their hostile nature.
In order to better help the people, the world governments along form a massive organization where stalker would come together and do jobs and help out the people as much as they can [think of it like an adventures guild from fantasy].
Alaska joins the alliance, Cascadia [formed from the remains of British Colombia, along with Oregon and Washington] follows soon after.
2055-2063: The Texan government Hires stalkers alongside the military in order to better secure its internal borders from both mutants and bandits. The alliance makes it mandatory for members to have a modernized and fairly sized army.
2067: A mysterious gate is reported near the ruined city of Midland.
