Naked and laid on the cold tarmac, you stare up into the sea of stars of the Imperium. All of your dreams should be out there, somewhere in the vast, gorgeous galaxy.
You reach over to grab a handful of gray paste from a bowl fashioned from the bottom end of a plastic bottle, and stick it in your mouth. Bitter, fleshy lumps oozed down your mouth, tasting only slightly better than that time you were desperate enough to try eating manure.
In the corner of your sight, you catch the glint of an eye - the largest of five, all housed on the face of a particularly skeletal and gaunt cat, peering at your meal eagerly from the shadows.
OK. Fine.
You stuff half a handful of the gunk into your mouth, and then slide the remainder over to them with a flick of your finger. The feline cowered away, afraid. But soon, they emerged, pouncing onto the improvised bowl, and started to eagerly devour the morsel within.
Wincing, you swallow down. One day you wouldn't need to eat this shit. You'd eat the finest meals.
The best food in the Segmentum! No, of the whole fucking Imperium! Hell yeah.
Your fist tightened. You were going to do it. You were in the shitters now, but one day. One day! One day you won't be! One day you'll be up there, in the stars, looking down at how far you've come! How much you've achieved! You just had to fight for it, strive for it!
You believed!
"Isn't that right, Bellagold?" you chuckled, and grabbed a plastic figurine representing a risqué and overly busty girl from a spot behind you. It was your single, most valuable possession. "The universe, it's going to be mine!" you half-joked. The figurine just stared back at you blankly, not replying. Of course she wouldn't. You kissed her forehead and then laid her beside you, and stared into the skies again, admiring the beauty of the universe.
Yeah. One day. One day you were going to make it. The universe would see what you were capable of.
Ambition! Your soul bellowed with it!
What is your gift?
[] Vigor You were born healthier and stronger than average. You are resistant to pollution and disease, and have talent for physical tasks, such as running, swimming and fighting.
[] Intellect Through having a talent for intellectual pursuits, you have self-learnt how to read and write most forms of Gothic. You also have an educational level comparable to that of a real-life highschooler.
[] Psyker You can "see" a multicolored, chaotic haze overlapping your normal sight. You don't understand it well yet, aside from that it allows you to identify Chaos cultists in your vicinity and other Psykers. You're often sleep-deprived, because these visions don't stop even with your eyes closed.
Where are you from?
[] Marshana, Agri-World A warm and tropical ocean-planet, dedicated to the harvest and export of edible seaweeds, and the geoextraction of promethium.
[] Zaharu, Frontier World A barren rock of deserts and piled up garbage. Home to scavengers and junkers.
[] Olivera, Hive World A planet entirely overrun by civilization - it's one giant city. Dedicated primarily to the chemical industry. Its moon, Preciosa, is a massive casino and entertainment paradise.

Psykers are... well, we know exactly what kind of game we get out of being one of them. Its a story we already know. But you can go a lot of places with a barbarian from the dregs who, when the chance came to mutate, went the other direction.
I'm on the fence between Hive and Frontier though. Both have their perks.

Playing as an psyker is always interesting so many ways things can go.

If we want to move up in the world we have a few options presented to us but they'll all be extremely difficult, and rely on us dodging being forced to join any imperial institutions due to lack of upwards mobility for someone of our low stature in most with any that do have upwards mobility not even being an option for us to join in the first place due to our lack of status which would mean we never end up as anything beyond a serf or something for those institutions.
Personally, I think we're best served by attempting to force our way into the local nobility of whatever planet we're on one way or another such as through forming a powerful enough gang on a Hive World for example which we could then use to get patronage from an existing noble family (such patronage will be both a gift, and a curse as that noble family will metaphorically collar us, and try to keep us down but they have their uses) which would hopefully allow us to eventually expand into more legitimate business in the mid hive or gain enough control over the underhive so that we can buy nobility from the planetary governor or something eventually.
Or, all these carefully laid, and reasonable paths to power get thrown out the window because the QM has ideas on where they want to take this but meh who knows.
