In Free Guy, Ryan Reynolds plays Guy, just a dude living a monotonous, not-at-all meaningful life as a bank teller. Until he finds out that the reason his life isn't meaningful is because he's in an open-world video game, and he's not a player character. He's a NPC. However, when he finally decides to do something new... things get very interesting, very fast.

Looks fun, if a bit like 'What if Lego Movie were live action?'

My thought was "what if the Matrix was GTA", but you're not wrong. I'm tentatively interested.

I'm pre-emptively mad about the super competent and experienced lady who will end up playing a subordinate role to the rookie male lead. Other than that this looks like a really fun guilty pleasure.

Is this really a Disney Movie? It's surprising that they would feature that many guns blazing in their movie regardless of the Video Game setting.

That makes sense.

(I also like how they took advantage of the merger to stick it to Disney in a amusing way.)

This was already mentioned on SB, but I think they wasted a BIG opportunity to have the female player lead actually be revealed as a guy, like I was kinda hoping Joe Keery to be Jodie Comer's real-life persona.

Shame instead we seem to be getting another 'Insanely attractive woman is a loner who only can get a man interested in her through unconventional means' cliche.
