[X] Try to find Tohsaka.
"So, are you up for something else?" You glance from Ilya to Ershin, and Deis forms her illusion and scowls at you.
"Flan, I don't think we should go around killing Servants. If I remember everything that's been said, Sakura is the Lesser Grail, which means she absorbs the energy from Servants, and she's also this Shadow, so dead Servants make her stronger." You sigh and shake your head.
"Deis, I know that I have a history of violence, but it's not all I'm after." You look at Ilya. "I was thinking we should try to find Tohsaka. If she's still alive, that means she experienced the shadow-thing first-hand and knows how dangerous it is. And since she's actually a competent mage, she might have some ideas worth trying. I would suggest just killing Rider's Master, but I get the feeling that won't actually solve anything, and the best-case scenario is a failed ritual." Ilya nods.
"Yes, that's correct. But you don't think we should seek out Shirou and Saber?" You frown at her.
"Why should I? Emiya's no good as a mage and I can't think of any reason for Saber to be any help." Ilya smiles mischievously and you glower at her. "You know who she is, don't you?" She giggles and spins away from you.
"Hehe! You haven't figured it out?"
"I can't think of many invisible swords of note, much less ones wielded by female European kings," you respond sourly.
"Well, if it ever becomes important, I'll make sure you realize it. You do already know who she is, but I can understand why you haven't made the connection yet. In any case … Deis, do you have any objections to looking for Rin?" Deis glances at Ershin before shrugging.
"I guess not. So long as we don't get into a real fight with that Shadow my protections will hold for a while longer. I don't suppose either one of you has an actual plan for finding her?" You look at Ilya and she sighs.
"She probably hasn't gone back to her home, but we should check it first in case there's a trail. After that … she's probably staying somewhere with a lot of people, like a hotel. She's a traditional mage, after all, and fighting where people can see or be caught in the crossfire is frowned upon." Deis nods and vanishes; you help Ilya back into Ershin and help it make sure the Church weapon is secure and out of the way before lifting off and flying toward Tohsaka's home.
The building itself is fine, although it seems … diminished, and it no longer feels as noble as it used to. It's like it's been defiled, somehow, although nothing really jumps out at you except the plants nearby. In contrast to the solid stone and wood of the house, the grass and trees surrounding the house are withered and crumble at a touch. So, too, with the street outside the mansion's walls. But you don't have much time to study it, as Ilya declares the area useless for determining Tohsaka's presence. You dismiss Deis's suggestion to cloak your group in invisibility – not only do humans rarely look up, but such an obvious manner of travel is more likely to attract her attention, if only to make you stop. Moreover, while you'll be travelling at a rather sedate pace, it's probably more of a hassle than it's worth to try keeping the shield of wind in place. Following Ilya's directions you fly around the city, but nothing on this side of the river gets a reaction. Even on the other side Ilya doesn't find anything worth investigating closely … but while you're heading south, toward what are apparently apartment complexes, an arrow shoots past you. You turn to look at the shooter and see Archer standing atop a nearby building, bow in hand but lowered. Where there's a Servant, there's a Master, so you fly over to him.
"I hope you aren't looking for some poor fool to take you in now that Caster's dead," he says, and you shake your head.
"No, we're just looking for your Master. Is she still alive?" He arches an eyebrow and glances at Ershin before answering. There's no way he could see through it to see Ilya, though.
"She is, actually. And as a matter of fact, she'd like to meet you right now, if that's possible." You raise your eyebrows in surprise – why would Tohsaka want to meet you?
"She sent you out to find us? When did you start looking?" Archer chuckles and shakes his head.
"No, I was simply watching for any threats when I saw you trying to be seen in public. I told Rin, and she asked me to bring you to meet with her." That's reasonable, and you look at Ershin, waiting for a moment in case anyone objects. You shrug and smile at Archer.
"Lead on, then." He frowns for a moment before turning and walking to the edge of the building. He looks back for a moment.
"Try to keep from attracting any attention, alright?" He leaps off the building. You glide forward, keeping high above the street. He flickers between visibility and invisibility, appearing meters apart, more for your benefit than out of necessity, probably. He leads you back north, toward the harbor, finally leaping into the abandoned park where you fought Lancer. Tohsaka herself is sitting on a bench, a thick brown oversized coat wrapped around her. Archer leans against a lamppost behind her. She snorts when you set Ershin down and looks up at you.
"… Geez. And I thought Emiya was too trusting. For all you know this could have been a trap." It's hard to tell if she means for you to hear it, and she looks a little tired, but you laugh at the remark.
"Not too long ago, I fought a group of vampire hunters that thought they could kill me. Sixty or so men and women, and in broad daylight. I killed all but one of them, and I let him go. More recently, I went up against a woman who supposedly makes a habit of killing vampires, but even though I was just playing around she wasn't much of a threat. And then, of course, even after I had my heart torn out by a cursed spear I still killed a Servant that everyone else thought was too powerful to defeat one on one. So if this had been an ambush, I rather think I would have killed everything in my path and then made the mastermind's life … somewhat unpleasant." Tohsaka stiffens and glares at you before coughing miserably. Archer steps forward, one hand on his Master's shoulder and his eyes locked on you. Ershin's helmet opens and Ilya stands up in the armor.
"Flan. Maybe I should take over for now?" You nod slowly and walk over to help her out. She waits for Tohsaka to recover. "You don't look very good, Rin. What happened to you?" The red Master laughs bitterly.
"That … shadowy thing. It attacked my home last night." Ilya glances at Archer.
"I'm surprised you made it out." He shakes his head.
"It was easy for me to make it out – it wasn't trying to attack me. It went after Rin, instead." That's … odd. You frown and try to figure out why it would do that. "I was able to disrupt its form once I realized what was happening, but …." Ilya sighs quietly.
"Why would Sakura want to attack you, hm? It almost doesn't make sense." You scowl at the indication that Ilya does know what's going on, and Tohsaka's eyes widen and her face pales. "… Well, in any case, part of why we're here is to set up a truce – the Shadow is connected to the Greater Grail, so if any more Servants die it could be … bad, I suppose. Another part is seeing if there's anything you can think of to deal with the situation." Tohsaka sighs.
"Just how bad is the situation?" Ilya sighs and looks around the park.
"… I honestly don't know if the Grail can be 'fixed.' It might need to be discharged to deal with …. Well, I guess that means that this round is probably a waste. You'll still be here in sixty years, though, won't you?" Tohsaka doesn't seem to notice the bitterness in Ilya's voice, but Archer, oddly enough, frowns and looks away.
"Really? Just have to give up?" Ilya is quiet for a moment, but before you can intervene Deis appears and speaks up.
"Maybe. We tried looking at the Grail setup, but before we could get very far the Shadow interrupted us. Maybe there's another solution, but we'd need to figure out how to keep the Shadow occupied while we figure that solution out and then actually implement it." She looks pointedly at Archer. "You seem to have had more success than Caster did fighting it. Maybe you can give us some advice?" He doesn't answer, and Tohsaka sighs.
"You know what's going on, then? Not just with her, but with everything?" You frown at Tohsaka and Ilya cocks her head curiously. "I was … contacted. By one of the local groups. They're … a little upset about all the collateral damage, especially with how the temple was wiped out."
"What?" Tohsaka looks up at you, as startled by your outburst as you were by her remark.
"That wasn't us," Ilya says quietly, and Tohsaka sighs.
"It doesn't matter who did it. They're not happy about it, and if we don't get the situation sorted out then they're going to come here and clear things up their way." Her gaze flicks to you for a moment. "And I think they're going to object to bringing in any outside help. They might not be willing to go to war with the Association, but … well, maybe they will. The Association doesn't have much power here, after all."
"So, we're going to cooperate, right? Or at least not fight each other?" Ilya and Tohsaka nod at Deis's question; Deis coughs gently and looks at you, and you sigh. So troublesome.
"I won't start anything until the situation is more stable," you say, earning a glare from Tohsaka and a disappointed frown from Deis. Ilya simply nods, though; maybe she has a trick up her sleeve?
"Then it's decided! We're all working together right now. Rin, would you object to coming to my home for a while? We can probably get more work done there than we can anywhere else, even with the time it takes to get there." Tohsaka stares blankly at Ilya.
What do you do?
[ ] If Rin accepts, carry them back to Ilya's castle.
- [ ] Then stay and make something to eat.
- [ ] Then stay and try to figure out if you know anything helpful.
- [ ] Then go out and try to find Arcueid.
- [ ] Then go out and make sure Emiya knows what's going on.
[ ] Suggest going to Emiya's; it will let you make sure he knows the situation, and even if he's an incompetent mage, he and Saber might be able to add something.
[ ] Other?
