I've got 99 quests, I've finished one
This is a CKII dynasty quest set in an original setting. While this may sound like something that has been done many times before, I'm doing something a bit different. There are going to be two versions of this quest run simultaneously, both by me, on two different threads. These two quests can interact. The PC's can marry, go to war, or ally with each other, though that probably won't happen at first. I am going to make one request: Do not discuss the events of one thread in the other. This will hopefully prevent metagaming, and allow them to develop without undue amounts of influence from the other. Without further ado, here are the species options!

[] Human
[] Elf
[] Dwarf
[] Gnome
[] Dragon
[] Werewolf
[] Fairy
[] Undead
[] Vampire
[] Minotaur
[] Satyr
[] Centaur
[] Merfolk
[] Angel
[] Demon
[] Goblin
[] Orc
[] Ogre
[] Giant
[] Write In (Must be a mythical creature, subject to GM approval)

After about a day, the three leading options will be finalized, unless that option is more popular in the other thread, in which case it will be removed from this one. Now have at it players!

Since we are only waiting for the three most popular votes to get finalised, we can vote for more than one thing, right? Because this list makes it hard to choose...

[X] Harpy
[X] Merfolk
[X] Fairy

Even cutting it down to 3 options was hard...

I'm going to go with one vote per person per thread. Sorry...
Rats... Time to cut down the options!

Harpies are flying monstrosities of awesomeness, plus they have adorable babies (like chickens combined with regular babies for twice the adorableness). Certainly a worthy choice.

Merfolk, on the other hand, live on or near the sea, which is a certified advantage.

Fairies are fairies, but since we already have a fairy dynasty, I would probably let it drop.

Centaurs could also be nice, even if they require special buildings. Centaur no nayami proves that they can work even as a modern civilisation.

Finally, playing as a race of Gorgons could be awesome, and not just because of the whole lizard thing. Trying to diplomacy without turning whoever you talk to to stone could be a fun trial.

In the end, though, I have to say
[X] Harpy
Because now Harpy has enough votes to survive the culling.

Question: Of the three chosen races, could the remaining two perhaps become minorities in the civilisation (sorta like how Endless Legend does it)? Because that could be pretty interesting, to have multiple races living within the same civilisation from the get-go.

Eh, hard to tell, Harpies have a big range of "Things they can be"

Personally, I'll just stick with [X] Human for now.

There are two measures of what a given population is in this game: The culture, and the species, with race as a subset of species. You can gain subjects from another culture or species, however, subjects that do not share your culture are much more likely to rebel against you, and subjects that are a different race have a much lower chance of assimilating into your culture, or being converted into your religion, or whatever. While it can be done, it's more difficult and less sustainable than subjects of your species. There are exceptions to this rule, but I'll save that for the next stage, assuming they get picked.
