The butter sizzled in the saucepan, quickly melting and stuffing the noses of any passersby with the scent of milk. Quickly, the chef pours the melted butter into the pan partnering it with quartered garlic and thyme. Accessorizing the steak who had been dressed in the perfect searing, golden with a touch of dark brown. Smiling the chef checked the steak she had been taking care of for the past ten minutes. Poking it with a thermometer, she taps her fingers on the kitchen counter.
The red headed chief being immersed into their art, she did not notice the loud thumps of socked feet on the floor below. 'One hundred degrees? But it has been so long!' frowning the (temporary)master of the kitchen sighs, 'I was so sure I remembered how to make western food from the time I was in London. I knew she would love it'. With a few gentle slaps to her own face, she refocuses trying to go beyond the realm of mortal men in cooking. The poor girl however was in great danger, for you see she is being stalked by a predator. A preteen.
Well describing her as just a preteen would be rather unfair, for she is the one and only best friend of the diminutive chief she is planning on surprising. Step after step, flying underneath the radar thanks to the sizzles and pops of the pan with the steak. Holding her breath, dodging the squeaky floorboard that gave her away the last time she tried to hunt her prey. Taylor Hebert finally reached her target who was standing upon a small wooden stool. However, the chief heard the faint chuckle that escaped her hunter.
"I know you are there Hebert." Said Emma, still completely focused on the perfect steak that was in front of her.
"Bwah! HOW?! I was so sure I was as quiet as a mouse; I even dodged those squeaky parts?" her previous smile forgotten, disheartened and confused Taylor crossed her arms pouting.
"I heard your chuckles Hebert; You know I know that you can't help yourself." Emma stated.
"No way! I did not laugh at all!"
Frustrated the dark-haired girl said, "Why do you keep calling me Hebert anyway? I thought we were besties Emma!"
Covering her eyes with her hands, Taylor sobs. Grinning like a loon behind her hands.
"Oh, woe is me, T'have seen what I have seen, betrayed by my best friend. What ever shall I do?"
Playing along with her dear friends Oscar worthy drama act Emma said.
"Well, you could always try talking normally. Or you know not sneak up on them when they are trying to cook your dinner?"
Frowning Emma turns. Eyes dancing with hidden laughter.
"Besides, I didn't need to hear your barely disguised chuckle Hebert, I could smell you coming from a mile away!" Emma laughed.
"Emma!"
Whined Taylor, who seemed to be ready to burst into tears.
"Fine, Fine."
Emma said lifting a pan that seemed to be to be far too large for her to hold one handed.
"I'll stop. Tay, can you be a dear and help me plate this?"
"Sure!"
Chirped Taylor grabbing a plate by the countertop, previous tears forgotten she places the plate next to the pan.
"side's why do you sometimes sound like an old man? Its so weird!" questioned Taylor.
"Well," drawled Emma as she dressed the steak that she plated moments before "I don't know Taylor. Maybe I was a an old black-smith in a previous life or something." Dead-panned Emma.
"Pfft, yeah right and I will become a cape and save the world someday." Taylor chuckled.
Cackling like a madwoman, face flushed with laughter she needled her friend back.
"Besides, you quoted Shakespeare. Who's the weird one here huh?" Emma retaliated.
Gasping in horror, Taylor's shoulder was shaking, her lips quivered "You dare!"
Both girls stared at each other, steak forgotten, the aroma tickling their noses were ignored. It was high noon; the two girls were armed and ready with years of ammunition. Both sharp shooters ready to fire with their own salvo of embarrassing stories, and secrets. The first to crack was Emma, the corner of her lips twitched, her eyes twinkling with hidden mirth. Taylor followed suit with unable to stop herself from smiling, both girls collapsed into a bundle of giggles and laughs.
"Girls, are you two having fun?" Annette poked her head into the kitchen.
"Mom!" shouted Taylor smiling, nearly dropping the steak that her best friend had agonized over.
Annette Hebert walked towards the two friends and said,
"Well girls, that steak looks wonderful! Let's bring it to the dinner table, everyone is waiting." Picking up the plate she left the kitchen.
The two girls looked at each other, grinned and quickly followed. Little did they know that would be the last time they would see Annette walk on two legs.

Hello there! welcome, to all of those who clicked on this thread. I have been lurking in this forum for a very very long time( and occasionally I post some fan art. I have read many, many fanfics, and I feel like its high time I should try my hand at writing something. I left some hints on who reincarnated, I hope I wasn't being too obvious lol.
This is only the prologue I will try and finish chapter 1 tomorrow with some art
