Those green eyes were completely unperturbed, "Well, then, that's even more reason to visit, isn't it?"
Autumn flicked a finger towards her backpack, leaning against the wall near her hanger-ons, and one of them dutifully brought it to her. It was hard to miss the venomous stares that they threw your way. Turning back to Autumn, you did your best to ignore them. There was a quick rumpling of papers, and Autumn produce a single sheaf of paper and a notebook. There was a moment of silence as she scrawled into the notebook, eyes flitting back and forth as her pen worked furiously.
With a flourish, she handed the paper to you with a smile. On it, with impeccable handwriting, was the answers to all the questions to the homework. You felt your mouth work, struggling to say, well, anything. This was unusual treatment from someone that you didn't even know. Suspicion flooded your thoughts. A prank? Are the answers all wrong? Is she trying to sabotage my grades or something? Yet when you looked up at her, those thoughts melted away as if they had never existed. Autumn's smile was reaching further than you had ever seen it.
You glanced away from its radiance, and murmured, "Thanks for the help."
"Of course! We're classmates, after all. You shouldn't have any qualms about approaching me for help."
Hidden from the Autumn's gaze, her cronies behind her whispered to each other. There was some confusion among them. You took that to mean that even they didn't know why you were being helped. Refocusing your attention to Autumn, you knew it wasn't wise to look a gift-horse in the mouth, but...
"Why though?" You couldn't help but let the query slip out. Merely moments later, you regretted asking. Maybe Autumn was the type of person who didn't like fully expressing herself in front of her "friends" or something.
For a moment, Autumn looked well and truly baffled, her brow furrowing as she answered, "Why? Do I need a reason or anything?"
No hostility.
That made you stutter, "U-uh, no, not really. It's just that I--Well, thanks. I gotta go!"
Face red with embarrassment, you folded the paper with the answers into your pocket and took off down a packed hallway, thankful for once for the onslaught of other students. Even over all the chatter, you could swear you still heard the malicious giggles from the gaggle around Autumn. Your ears burned. Head ducked down, you were about to turn the corner when you glanced back at Autumn and her group.
She was staring at you, those emeralds boring into you. Then someone passed in front of your vision, and she was chatting with her friends. Weird. Rubbing your eyes, you glanced at your phone. A few minutes left!
Pushing the library door open, you spotted Ben. His glasses and immaculately groomed hair stood out among the other manga readers. When he saw you, he grinned and dropped his manga, leaping up with his bag to greet you. You noted drily that he was still reading shojo manga.
"Yo, what's up, Beatrice?" His easygoing nature made him absurdly friendly.
"Before you regale me with one of your stories, I need to know; are these answers correct?" Autumn asked as she whipped out Autumn's cheat sheet.
Ben surveyed it with seriousness, taking out his own pen as he went through each answer. Silence as he went through them. Then he handed it back to you, a wide grin on his face.
"I dunno! I actually was about to ask you if you did the homework. Evidently not, but thanks for the answers."
You hung your head and groaned. Nothing to it then. The both of you sat down at a table and began to quickly scribble the answers onto your homework sheets. At almost the same exact time, you both slammed your pens down. Ben narrowed his eyes.
"You've gotten quicker. It seems as if my skill, "The art of writing shit down real fast before the bells rings", is rubbing off on you."
"Shut it," you snapped, "Eventually you're gonna have to do the homework. Otherwise, if I end up not doing it, both of us are gonna get fucked."
He yawned as he replied, "Yeah, yeah. We're so totally gonna fail over a few days of missing homework. Relax, we'll be good. We'll be better if you didn't miss your homework. That kind of crap won't cut it in college, missy."
You rolled your eyes at his sardonic grin. College. Start of the year and all the teachers were already trying to cram it down their throats. Point taken though. Rolling up Autumn's cheat sheet, you tossed it at the garbage can.
"Missed. Who gave you that anyway? Handwriting was too damn legible for it to have been you."
Ignoring the barb, you shrugged your shoulders and said, "It came from Autumn. I guess she was feeling pretty charitable or something."
Ben rolled his head at you in interest, "Really? Did you ask for help? I thought you had too much pride~."
"Nope, she wanted to talk earlier. I just mentioned it all off-handed like, and she just gave me the answers."
"Isn't that convenient. Maybe she's coming on to you. That tactic is as old as the math teacher. First, she'll give you the answers, then, she'll invite you to her home where she'll push you down and--"
You rested your chin on your hand as you listened to him squeal. He took his fantasies too far. Or maybe it's all that damn shojo he's been reading. You specifically told him to avoid the ones where near rape was attempted on, and apparently forgiven by, the main girl.
"Oh, really? Is that the famous Benjamin gay-dar going off?"
"Hey, cut that out. It's 2016, you can't say that. If any of my boyfriends heard you saying that, you'll be neck deep in SJW's. You have social media? Good, keep it that way." Ben was grinning widely, his tone dripping in sarcasm.
"I'll keep that in mind. Off topic, are there any elective classes at this school? I didn't get a form for that at all."
"Oh, that. I think they're handing them out today, during first period. I'll be signing up for Home Ec, if you wanna take a class with me~. I plan on impressing both the boys and girls. I'm a free agent these days."
"...Right. Anyway, I'll think about it a bit more. If there's anything better, I don't want feel regret when I'm capable of making sugar cookies at the end of the year."
"Ah, but it'll be A+ cookies."
Riiing.
The bell droned on and on. The two of you glanced at each other and jumped out of the seats, making a mad dash to your homeroom. As with yesterday, everyone more or less sat in the same seats. Ben on your left, and some dude in a polo shirt on your right. He didn't seem that interested in talking to you. An older man, with graying hair, stepped into the room.
"Alright, ladies and gents. As you all know, electives are up today."
"Oi, teach, why weren't we given the sheets during the orientation day?"
The teacher shrugged, "Who knows? I think it was so you guys could get acclimated to the school or something. I don't know, those meetings drone on too long. Anyway, here you guys go. Pass em on to the back."
Ignoring Ben and his waggling eyebrows, you glanced down at the electives.

Wait, what? The school has a garden? But isn't it nearing fall? You crossed that one off mentally.
